| How to Enter Key Cavern FIND KANALET CASTLE Before you can enter Key Cavern, you must find or trade for the following items in order: a Yoshi Doll, a Ribbon, Canned Dog Food and some Bananas. Once you have carried out the trading sequence for the items that you will need, go to Richard's Villa at map location 7-N. Richard will ask you to go to his former Castle and find the five Golden Leaves that he left behind when he was forced to run away. To enter Kanalet Castle from Richard's house, go right one screen, up three screens, right one screen, up two screens, right one screen, up one screen, and right two screens to find Kiki the Monkey. Give Kiki the Bananas to have him make a bridge. After crossing the bridge, go up three screens and left one screen. Cut down a small bush to reveal the staircase that leads to the Castle. FIND THE FIVE GOLDEN LEAVES To find the five Golden Leaves, you must search both inside and outside Kanalet Castle. The first leaf is found by defeating the man who comes out of the six holes to the right of the Castle (at map location 11-F). To find the second leaf, defeat the Crow at map location 9-F. To defeat it, first throw a rock at it to make it fly, then hit it with another rock to finish it off. Inside the Castle, go left one room from the entrance and defeat all of the enemies to earn the third Golden Leaf. From the third leaf, go up one room and right one room, then climb the stairs and go left one room. Take the stairway to the second floor, then walk down into the small room and bomb the left statue in the wall. Defeat the Armos Statue that appears to earn the fourth Golden Leaf. From the fourth leaf, go right one room, down one room, left one room, and down one room to exit the Castle. Once you are outside, walk to the right and enter the right door to re-enter the Castle. From where you enter, pick up a jar and throw it at the door to open it, then go through the door and defeat the enemy carrying the Morning Star to earn the fifth Golden Leaf. FIND THE SLIME KEY Take the five Golden Leaves to Richard's Villa at map location 7-N. Talk to Richard and give him the Leaves, then move the box at the top of the room to the right to reveal a hidden staircase. Go down the stairs, walk straight up, then climb the stairs. From the stairs, go left one screen and down two screens to exit. Work your way to the right through the Pothole Field by cutting down the bushes. Go down one screen, right one screen, up one screen, then left one screen to locate a statue of an owl. Dig in front of the statue with the Shovel to locate the hidden Slime Key. ENTER KEY CAVERN To enter the Key Cavern, travel to map location 6-L and use the Slime Key to open the gate. From Richard's house, go up one screen, left one screen and up one screen to get to the lock. After you open the gate, go down one screen, right one screen, down one screen, right one screen and up three screens. Go the left side of the screen and go back down one screen, then hop left two screens across the small islands in the pond to find the entrance to Key Cavern. How to Complete Key Cavern TOUGH SPOTS IN KEY CAVERN To open the top door in the first room of the palace, use your Power Bracelet to throw a jar and knock it down. To reach the chest in the room to the right of the starting point in the Key Cavern, you must use the Pegasus Boots. After you find them later in the level, use the Boots to run to the right side of the room and destroy the round object that is pushing you away. When it has been destroyed, open the chest to find a Small Key. THE PEGASUS BOOTS The Pegasus boots are found near the top of Key Cavern, on the left side. From the entrance of the level, toss a bottle at the door to open it, go up four rooms and take the stairs. When you exit, go right one room and take another staircase. When you exit, go up one room, left one room, and up one room to enter a room with two Dodongo Snakes. Defeat the Snakes by using your Bombs and the door on the right will open. Go through the door on the right to receive the Pegasus Boots. THE NIGHTMARE KEY To get the Nightmare Key from where you found the Pegasus Boots, go down one room, right one room (using a Bomb), and up one to a room with a large pit in it. Use the Pegasus Boots and the Roc Feather to make a running jump across the pit, then go up one room. After you go up, make another running jump across the pit to reach the chest that holds the Nightmare Key. FIND THE BOSS: SLIME EYES To find Slime Eyes from the start of Key Cavern, toss a bottle at the door to open it, then go up four rooms and take the stairs. When you exit, go right one room, take another staircase, go up one room and left one room. Take the narrow path in the upper-right corner of the room up one room, right one room and down one room, then take the stairs. When you take the stairs, you enter a side-view screen. Ram the large rock with your Pegasus Boots, then continue right to exit. After you exit, go left one room, then up one room (using the Nightmare Key) to find Slime Eyes' lair. Ram the wall in Slime Eyes' lair to force it to appear. DEFEAT SLIME EYES Rapidly ram Slime Eyes five times with your Sword while wearing the Pegasus Boots. This will split it into two separate Eyes. After the split, use the Sword to strike each Eye two to three times each to finish them off. |
