Weezer- WEEZER (BLUE)- ***** out of *****
This has got to be the coolest dork-punk album ever. These guys may not be the coolest or the brightest, but they are pretty damn funny and they write a good melody. I can't honestly say that I dislike any track on this album. While some tracks clearly standout over others, there is nothing to not like here. My personal highlights are "The World has Turned and Left Me Here," the oh-so-catchy "Buddy Holly," the slightly dissonant "Undone- the Sweater Song," the semi-depressing "Say it Ain't So," and the album-closing "Only in Dreams." Weezer even finds a geek anthem with the well-constructed "In the Garage." I can't complain about this album, eep. Every reviewer's nightmare... Hell, even in their often somewhat dumb-assed lyrics, these guys come across charming. I would say that you should go buy this album if you don't already own it.

Weezer- WEEZER (GREEN)- ***** out of *****
Wow, and to think I thought Weezer couldn't do better than the Blue Album. Ah well, all preconceptions aside, this blew me away. I first had heard "Hashpipe" and had worried that Rivers had gone away again to the land of PINKERTON-era experimentation, during most of which i wasn't the bands greatest fan. However, I like "Hashpipe," along with 8 of the other 9 tracks on the album. I could be like every other reviewer I've seen do this album, and bitch-bitch-bitch-bitch-bitch about how the lyrics aren't as good and whatnot. However, it really doesn't bother me. I read in an article that Rivers wanted to focus on the songs, and he sure as hell nailed that. "Don't Let Go" comes out of the gates like a young Elvis Costello, while "Photograph" is like doo-wop infused with punk. The aforementioned "Hashpipe" has some 80's metal influence, while "Island in the Sun" has a 50's crooner edge and "Crab" just rocks. Coming in at track #6 is my least favorite track, the plain punk that is "Knock Down Drag Out." However, the boys are right back into it with the last four numbers, "Smile" "Simple Pages" "Glorious Day" and "O Girlfriend," all of which seem like they would have fit in quite well on the classic Blue Album. I give them credit: this album does in 28+ minutes of mind-numbingly incredible Weezer moments what most artists can't do in the entire duration of their career: write an entire album that people like. Now go, and buy this. Do wish they would've included "Christmas Song" though. Doh.
