| 3 Doors Down - THE BETTER LIFE - **** out of ***** stars possible. This band, consisting of its drummer/singer and two guitarists, accomplishes more than most modern rock bands can say. Their first single is Superman-related (how friggin cool is that?). They rock unashamedly, without worry over typical modern rock ideals like consumer-friendliness. This became clear to me after listening to their second super cut, "Loser." This is one of those underdog theme songs, and it is fairly chilling with its chorus of "You're getting closer/To pushin me off of life's little ledge/I'm a loser/And sooner or later you know I'm dead." Not exactly typical pop fare is it? My only complaint really is the lack of stylistic change, with any real musical journies (southern rock at that) on one track. And yet there are so many good cuts on this album. I highly recommend it to modern rock fans with a wider lyrical taste. I was pleasantly surprised by it, and you probably will be too. |
