Incubus- MAKE YOURSELF- **** out of *****
Maybe there is a positive trend just below the surface of modern rock. I had grown rather cynical about the genre, because it was all beginning to blend together in my mind. This shit stands out. The combination of the DJ, the guitars, and the rockin riffs really makes it different. From the breakthrough "Pardon Me," to the semi-Hendrixian riffage of "Stellar," to the punky, inspirational "Make Yourself," this album is almost completely unique. I have to admit that despite their affiliation with shitmetal bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit, they are a damned sight more talented. I see good things happening for this band.

Incubus- WHEN INCUBUS ATTACKS VOL. 1- **** 1/2 out of *****
Let me first state that there is just about nothing wrong with this album. So, you ask, why half a star short of perfection? Two basic reasons. Number one, it's only an EP, and therefore, only contains 7 songs including the hidden track. Number two, out of these 7, one song sucks. But everything other than "Favorite Things" rocks. I don't understand why "Crowded Elevator" is only available in such limited quantities. That song is up there with "Pardon Me" and "Stellar" in my mind. The acoustic versions of the hits are magnificent, and the acoustic "Make Yourself" is by no means bad either. The live "Pardon Me" is dead on. And, well, lets just say you're in for some laughs if you let the cd run after Pardon Me. "We're smokin....smokin...smokin the herb again..." And smokin you are, Incubus.
