The Story:

Taking place where The Ocarina of Time left off, Link is once again amongst the children of Kokiri Forest; however, something doesn't seem right. Sightings of a colorful creature roaming the Lost Woods have deeply troubled the Kokiri, and various belongings have mysteriously dissappeared. Setting out to put an end to all the trouble, Link embarks into the Lost Woods, in search of this thief. Its not long before he encounters the creature, who reveals that he had kidnapped Epona. Furious, Link chases the creature right through a tiny door. On the other side, he finds himself in a parallel dimension, in a land by the name of Talmina. Thats not the least of his troubles now. The moon threatens to crash into the land in a matter of three days, and it is now up to Link to save the people from this terrible fate.

The Game:

Masks: While masks were only a form of busy work in The Ocarina of Time, Zelda: Gaiden finds a more significant purpose. There are some twenty-odd masks in the game, each of which resembles a particular creature. By wearing a mask, Link transforms into the creature he imitates, enabling several new features. For instance, if you were to wear the Goron Mask, Link now has the ability to roll around the land at incredible speeds while destroying enemies in your path and racing other Goron. Wearing a Deku Scrub mask allows you to hang-glide in certain areas, and by donning a Zora mask, you'll be able to swim through the water at incredible speeds.

Thought playing the ocarina was fun in The Ocarina of Time? Now, with each mask, you'll receive a new music instrument. The Goron Mask provides Link with a set of bongos (drums) and the Deku Scrub Mask brings to you a form of horns.

Time: Just like in The Ocarina of Time, the element of time plays an incredibly important role in the game. The only difference? If you decide to waste your time, the moon will crash into the land and your game will end; however, there is no need to worry. It is rumored that there is a merchant in the game who actually sells time. Additionally, a primitive clock has been added to the main screen to aid in time-telling.

Characters: Yes, there are characters in this game. Who are they? Well, we've listed those that we currently know of.

Link- You know this guy. In fact, he is one of the very few characters to appear in every Zelda game. No word on whether or not he'll be able to transform into an adult like in The Ocarina of Time.

Zelda- Yes, the Princess of Destiny and holder of the Triforce of Wisdom also makes a return. The only proof of her existence is one screenshot taken from the Japanese commercial.

Stalkid- He is one of your main adversaries. This curious creature is the whole reason why Link had been transported into this parallel world. Additionally, he kidnaps Epona. Why does he act this way? Majora's Mask controls his every movement.

Epona- Link's trusty steed becomes one of the main focuses of attention in Majora's Mask when Stalkid kidnaps her. Unlike in The Ocarina of Time, Link can ride Epona while she is still a foal.

Malon- Actually, there are two Malons in this game. Each taking on a different form, young Malon and old Malon. Rather than living on a ranch, these two live on a farm.

Ingo- Can you believe it? There are two Ingos as well. Ingo, and then his twin brother. They'll team up on you in horse races.

Chat- Since Navi left Link after he restored Hyrule in The Ocarina of Time to its original state, someone had to take her place. Now in steps Bell. Hopefully she won't be as annoying.

Trail-Chat's brother

Magic Dude- While his name is currently unknown, you know him from several screenshots. He is dressed in a strange green outfit and always has a huge grin on his face.

Mask Shop Owner- Yup. He returns. This time instead of owning a shop, he runs his business out of a bag which he carries around with him.

Outlook: From what we've seen so far, Majora's Mask appears to be exactly what we wanted in The Ocarina of Time, but never got. This looks to be the best game of the series so far, and the anticipation is high. Its already out in Japan, and we're eagerly anticipating the American release which is now November 20th. Can't wait? You could always import the Japanese version. It is heavily text-based, so those of you who don't know Japanese might be a little confused; however, there are guides out there for those English speaking users.
