| Cleveland, Ohio - Reflection Amusements of Ohio, an amusement preservation group has begun the task to save and reopen Chippewa Lake Amusement Park. For the last quarter century, Northern Ohioans have wondered whether or not there was any possible way for people to encourage this beloved park to reopen or for some investors to revamp the site. Many Ohioans certainly would love to see the park that figured in so many peoples memories reopened. Moreover, Ohio could always benefit from a nice traditional amusement park, along the lines of those found in neighboring Pennsylvania, which is home to Conneaut Lake Park, Kennywood, Knoebel's Grove Amusement Resort, and Waldameers Park. Fortunately, a new hope has finally emerged. A member of Yahoo's Chippewa Lake Park group is trying to form a group to save what remains of Chippewa Lake Park. While there are no guarantees, Reflection Amusements feels it is better to try something and hope for a miracle like the Arnold's Park miracle than to sit by and watch the remains of Chippewa Lake Park be torn down. Their basic plan is to catch attention, make noise, make the news, and try to attract an investor. If they can get one fourth of the project financed, they will have enough to buy back the park and keep it from coming down. They believe that Chippewa Lake Park can survive for a restoration price of near fifteen million dollars, which is really a low price. For that price they would be relying on local business, coaster enthusiasts, and the lake to endure, but like any endeavor, as long as the will is there, it can be done. Hoping to make this dynamic dream come true, they sent a proposal to a venture capital firm and while waiting for a reply from said firm, they also sent a small proposal to seedcapitalnetwork.com and received back responses from twenty-two interested investors! How much each is willing to spend is unknown, but with such ground-swelling attraction to this endeavor, faith remains very much alive. The project is certainly ambitious. Everything on the site would have to be rebuilt except for maybe the tumblebug, because all that is left after over twenty years of fire and vandalism are the three coasters, bug, and bathhouse. Nevertheless, this could still make a great amusement park if money is put into it. Countless residents would certainly like to see the coasters refurbished, and with rumors that there are still blueprints for Idora Park's principal wooden coaster, perhaps a way to invoke greater interest in the park from people familiar with the Youngstown Park would be to add a "new" coaster designed from the old blueprints that could incite additional interest in the proposed Chippewa Lake project. Not to mention, a good dark ride or two would certainly help. Reflection Amusements ideas for Chippewa Lake Park include restoring the Big Dipper, the mouse, the kiddie coaster, a wildcat along the lines of the one at Cedar Point, and perhaps the looping coaster from Seabreeze, which is for sale for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars, along with used flatrides, which can be seen at usedrides.com and italintl.com, such as a rolloplane, loopoplane, rockoplane, skyride, etc. along with other classics. Since the Big Dipper is very close to residential homes, trees and fences would be needed to keep noise levels down. Imagine though the rides as a small area in a freegate park with the Beach of Chippewa Lake, boats, fishing, camping, and picnics! Despite how optimistic this scenario may sound, it assuredly can happen. Reflection Amusements biggest goal at present is to raise enough money to enter a purchase agreement with CBE and then get into the park to brace the remaining structures in place and hire a security guard in case anyone tries to get in one last big fire. One member stated, That is the immediate goal. Chippewa is small, CCI and a construction team can get everything setup between then and opening day, hopefully sometime in 2003, finger crossed! Miracles can happen, and I am hoping for one here.
