On Sunday night a tragic accident took the life of Owen Hart. He was 34.

There are no words that can express the profound sorrow felt by so many of us who knew and loved this very special human being.

Fans throughout the world shared a small portion of Owen's life through his various ring personas. But to know Owen Hart the human being was pure joy. Owen loved this business and lived to entertain both in, and out of the ring. He was a consummate performer and a legendary prankster. In the extended family of professional wrestlers respect does not come easily and is not taken lightly. Owen Hart had that respect. He was more than just one of the boys...he was a friend and a brother to all. Our locker room and our lives will never be the same.

A loving son, brother, uncle, husband and father, Owen is survived by his wife Martha, his son Oje and his daughter Athena. Our prayers go out to them and the entire Hart family. With heavy hearts and the deepest of sympathies for his family we say good-bye. If the legacy of a man's life is measured by the lives he touched and how much he is loved ... then a big piece of Owen Hart will live on in all of us.

***********************

Martha wishes to thank all family, friends, neighbors, and fans world wide for their ongoing support and comfort in this time of great sorrow.

A private family service will be held at McInnis & Holloway's "Park Memorial Chapel" in Calgary on Monday, May 31, 1999 at 11:00am. Everyone is welcome to gather around the Funeral Home to pay tribute to Owen, but services inside the Chapel are private.

OVER THE EDGE RESULTS

Over the Edge kicked off with a Tag Team Title Match, as Kane and X-Pac defended against D’Lo Brown and "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry. Of course, X-Pac and D’Lo showed off their high flying ring arsenals. But so did Kane! The Big Red Machine came flying off the top rope to the outside of the ring, splashing both D’Lo and "Sexual Chocolate." Later, as X-Pac gave D’Lo the Bronco Buster, Kane chokeslammed the World’s Strongest Man and pinned him, and the champions retained their titles.

In another championship match, Al Snow defended the Hardcore Title against Hardcore Holly. The two superstars knocked each other around with cookie sheets, a fire extinguisher and a steel chair, fought through the crowd and into the lobby, pummeled each other with several items from the concession stands and fought into the women’s bathroom. Back in the ring, Holly was in control, but Snow mustered up enough energy to powerbomb Holly through a table and land on him, getting the three count to retain the Hardcore Title!

Jeff Jarrett teamed up with his protégé Debra to take on Val Venis and Nicole Bass in a mixed tag team match. Debra does not know how to wrestle, so she improvised by hitting Nicole from behind with a guitar. However, it didn’t even faze Bass, who turned around and ripped Debra’s shirt off! Meanwhile, Jarrett picked up the guitar and was set to clobbered Bass, but Val Venis grabbed him from behind and planted him with a belly-to-back suplex. One Money Shot later, Val pinned Jarrett for the win! After the match, Bass planted a kiss on the Big Valbowski! At first, Val resisted, but soon a smile came across the adult film star’s face—he seemed to enjoy it!

The New Age Outlaws exploded as Badd Ass Billy Gunn took on the Road Dogg. It was an evenly matched contest, as both superstars obviously had their opponent well scouted. Mr. Ass was able to come out on top, but he had to resort to underhanded tactics. For example, Gunn unwrapped the tape on his wrist and used it to clobber his former tag team partner. Gunn went on to get the victory after a Fame-Ass-Er.

In an eight-man elimination match, the Corporate Ministry—the Acolytes, Viscera and Big Boss Man—took on the Union—Test, Ken Shamrock, Mankind and the Big Show. The rules stipulate that when a superstar is pinned, counted out, disqualified or submits, he must return to the locker room. The first team to eliminate all the members of the other team is declared the winner. After Bradshaw eliminated Test with the Clothesline from Hell, the big Texan was forced to tap out himself after Ken Shamrock applied to ankle-lock submission hold. Shamrock snapped a bit later, hitting the referee with a belly-to-belly suplex, and getting himself disqualified. For the Big Show came in for the Union and promptly eliminated Faarooq with his Show Stopper chokeslam. Mankind and the Big Boss Man ended up as the last two members of their respective teams after the Big Show and Viscera were counted out. After planting Mr. Socko down the throat of the Boss Man, Mankind was able to win the match for his team!

In the ultimate grudge match, Triple H battled The Rock. Before the match got underway, Triple H and Chyna attacked the "Great One" in the backstage area and attempted to cut off the cast on The Rock’s left arm. Mankind, who was walking backstage after his match, came to The Rock’s aid, but Triple H and Chyna annihilated Mankind with a metal rod! The match got underway, and Triple H focused on The Rock’s injured arm, finally succeeding in getting the cast off. Triple H continued his aggressive ways, and he even knocked out referee Earl Hebner, who immediately disqualified him. But The Rock wasn’t satisfied. The Rock clobbered Triple H with a steel chair, busting him wide open. The "Great One" didn’t stop there, as he threw HHH into the steel ring post and clobbered him with a fan. Back in the ring, The Rock dropped a bleeding Triple H with a Rock Bottom and then set him up for the People’s Elbow. But Chyna grabbed the "Great One’s" leg and, from behind, Triple H hit him with a chair. Mankind came out with the metal rod HHH had used on him, and ran Triple H and Chyna off.

Shane McMahon came out in his referee garb for the night’s main event: Stone Cold Steve Austin against the Undertaker. Shane assumed that he would be the only special official for the match, as Vince McMahon had been carted off to the hospital after sustaining an ankle injury earlier on HEAT. However, one of Vince’s associates, Pat Patterson, arrived in a referee shirt of his own, and insisted to Shane that he would be taking Vince’s place as the second guest referee. But when Undertaker came out, he "vetoed" that idea by chokeslamming Patterson and literally kicking him out of the ring. Patterson had to be helped back to the locker room by Federation officials. Shane’s assumption turned out to be correct: he was the only official as the Federation Championship Match got underway. But Shane was knocked out when Undertaker inadvertently went flying into him. Mr. McMahon suddenly appeared, although he was limping badly. As Shane lay unconscious, Vince took over officiating duties. Austin made the cover after a stunner, but Shane woke up in time to pull his father away as Vince registered the three count. Vince and Shane scuffled, and Vince accidentally pushed Shane into Austin and the Undertaker. The Lord of Darkness fell on top of Austin, and Shane made a fast three count. The Undertaker became the new World Wrestling Federation Champion. The Corporate Ministry ran out from the back, perhaps in an attempt to abduct the Rattlesnake, but Austin was able to fight them off with stunners and a steel chair!
