I have never been silent about my dislike of Titanic. Perhaps it is sour grapes, but when an over-hyped, Hollywood-crafted marketing tool with cheesy dialogue and a overly-sentimental feel-good ending takes home the Oscar over such first-rate films as As Good As It Gets, Good Will Hunting, and L.A. Confidential, I have to complain. Nonetheless, one of the stars of this contemtuous movie is, I think, one of the most bright and talented actesses on the scene today. I like her other work so much, I have to overlook that one overblown picture. Taking off-beat roles as well as challenging ones (e.g. Ophelia, the most sought-after role in the acting community besides Lady Macbeth), she has excelled in her craft, and I look forward to her roles to come. Here is her filmography. As always, TV roles have been omitted.

Winslet has two pictures set up for 2000, Therese Raquin and Quills. All I know about the former is that she is the executive producer as well as the star. No word yet on a plot or co-stars. In Quills, she will play the handmaid of the infamous Marquis de Sade (played by Geoffrey Rush). |
