| Intercontinental Title Match: Kurt Angle defeated Chris Jericho The opening match at No Way Out in Hartford, Conn., saw Angle drop Y2J with his Olympic slam, but Jericho kick out at two. Angle was so shocked that he went outside the ring and grabbed the Intercontinental Title. He tried to hit Jericho with it, but referee Tim White stopped him. Later, the two superstars battled outside the ring. This time, Angle picked up another title belt, but Chyna came from behind and to take it away. When Angle turned around to face the Ninth Wonder of the World, Jericho came charging from behind, inadvertently sending Angle flying into Chyna, and the Ninth Wonder of the World crashing into the steel steps. As the referee attended to Chyna, Jericho had control in the ring. He went for the Asai moonsault, but Angle picked up the Intercontinental Title, which still lying in the ring, and hit Jericho in the face. Angle covered the champion, and Tim White quickly came back in the ring to administer the three count! Angle became the new Intercontinental Champion! Referee Earl Hebner came out to try to explain what happened to White, but to no avail, and Angle took both the European and Intercontinental Title back to the locker room. In fact, Angle was so happy with his victory that he continued celebrating throughout the night. Tag Team Title Match: Dudley Boyz def. New Age Outlaws The match turned decisively in the Dudley's favor when Buh Buh Ray clubbed Mr. Ass in the left forearm area with a lead pipe. Moments later, Road Dogg fell victim to the Dudley Death Drop, and the Dudley Boyz became the new Tag Team Champions! After the match, Road Dogg and a clearly injured Mr. Ass exchanged words. Later, EMTs examined Mr. Ass' forearm/shoulder area. Special challenge: "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry def. Viscera Two mammoth superstars faced off next in a match, made just moments before the Pay-Per-View got underway. Viscera had control until Mark Henry's "main squeeze" came to the ring. When Vis started picking on Henry's girl, "Sexual Chocolate" recovered and pinned the 500-plus-pounder with a football tackle/slam combination. No. 1 contender match: Edge & Christian def. Hardy Boyz w/ Terri Just as the match got underway, the Acolytes made their way to the ring - Terri had apparently hired them to protect her as she was scared for her safety after being put through a table by the Dudley Boyz. Terri proved to be an important factor in the match. Jeff Hardy climbed to the top rope for the Centon bomb, and Terri jumped up on the apron and pushed him off! Later, Terri slapped Matt Hardy across the face! A bewildered Matt stumbled backward, where Christian caught him and dropped him with the Impaler. Edge and Christian picked up the victory, and now have a date at WrestleMania to battle for the Tag Team Championship. After the match, Terri celebrated with Edge and Christian - but Edge and Christian were just as confused as everyone else, and they left the ring without her. When Matt grabbed Terri by the hair, demanding answers, the Acolyte Protection Agency sprung into action, and put a beating on both the Hardys. Tazz def. Big Boss Man w/ Prince Albert by disqualification Tazz trapped Boss Man in the Tazzmission after only a few minutes, and Prince Albert came from behind and bashed Tazz, earning Boss Man a disqualification. After the match, Boss Man and Prince Albert ganged up on the man from the Red Hook district. The Prince and Boss Man yelled and Tazz to stay down, but he wouldn't - and each time, the duo would brutalized him some more. Boss Man grabbed his nightstick, and shattered it over Tazz's skull, but Tazz still got back up. Finally, Federation officials arrived - but instead of holding back Boss Man and the Prince, they held Tazz down! No Holds Barred: X-Pac w/ Tori def. Kane In this emotional match-up, Kane delivered a chokeslam to X-Pac, and indicated that it was time for the Tombstone. However, Tori came from behind and jumped on the Big Red Machine. Once Kane got hold of her, it was her that was given a Tombstone! After he dropped Tori, Kane picked up the steel stairs, which he had thrown in the ring earlier. But X-Pac had recovered, and he jumped up and dropkicked the stairs, sending them flying backward into the Big Red Machine. Kane dropped to the mat, and X-Pac scored an upset victory. Six-Man Tag: Too Cool & Rikishi Phatu def. Perry Saturn, Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko w/ Eddy Guerrero The roof of the Hartford Civic Center nearly blew off as Too Cool and Rikishi came to the ring. The Radicals followed, and they were with a lead-pipe wielding Eddy Guerrero. But Rikishi got his hands on Guerrero before the match got underway, took away the lead pipe, and clobbered Guerrero with it. With the sides even, the six superstars engaged in an entertaining and highly competitive contest. After Too Cool, Benoit and Saturn spilled outside the ring, Malenko and Rikishi were left. Malenko worked on Phatu's injured left leg, but Phatu recovered and planted Malenko with the Rikishi driver. The big man followed up with a splash off the second rope, and Phatu and Too Cool got the victory! After the match, Too Cool and Rikishi proved that they're the most entertaining and popular threesome in the world as they danced as the fans in Hartford screamed in delight. WrestleMania qualifying match: Big Show def. The Rock The action picked up after referee Earl Hebner was inadvertently bumped outside the ring. Big Show delivered a chokeslam, but had to wait for another referee - Tim White - to run down to the ring for the three count. However, White was pulled out of the ring - by Earl Hebner! Remember, the two referees had exchanged words after the Jericho-Angle match. Suddenly, "No Chance in Hell" played, and Shane McMahon appeared! As the two referees exchanged fists outside the ring, The Rock caught Big Show for a Rock Bottom, and then prepared for the People's Elbow. Shane grabbed a steel chair, and as The Rock bounced off the ropes, Shane clobbered the People's Champion! Shane grabbed Tim White, who executed the three count, and the Big Show won the match and qualified for WrestleMania! After the match, Shane and Big Show embraced and headed back to the locker room together. Before the Hell in a Cell got underway, cameras picked up Kurt Angle getting ready to leave the arena. Angle opened the trunk of his car, and Chris Jericho and Chyna came from behind. They ganged up on the Olympic gold medalist and tossed him into the trunk! Hell in a Cell WWF Championship Match: Triple H w/ Stephanie def. Cactus Jack Cactus had promised to climb to the top of the cell, but it seemed that Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley had taken steps to avoid that situation, as the door of the Cell had been bolted shut with several chains and locks. However, a corner of the Cell busted open when Cactus Jack threw the steel steps at Triple H. The two superstars battled outside the cage and on to the announcer's table, where Cactus gave Triple H a piledriver. The challenger tried to scale the cage, but Stephanie grabbed his leg and pulled him down. Instead, Cactus grabbed a stick wrapped in barbed wire and hit the champion right in the head with it. To escape further injury, the badly-bleeding Triple H climbed to the top of the cage. When Cactus came following, Triple H took the barbed wire stick and used it to knock him off when he was almost all the way to the top of the cage! Cactus crashed through the Spanish announcer's table, and began to bleed badly from the head and arm. But Jack got back up and began throwing steel chairs on top of the cell, where Triple H was still standing. Once Cactus got to the top, Triple H proceeded to beat him repeatedly with the barbed-wire stick. Once Cactus regained control with a low blow, he delivered a suplex and a double arm DDT on the top of the cage. Then Cactus took the board with barbed wire and lit it on fire! Cactus prepared to piledrive Triple H on the flaming barbed-wire stick, but Triple H countered with a backdrop that sent Cactus through the cell! Cactus fell down onto the canvas, which broke under his weight. But Cactus would not stay down! Once Triple H made his way down from the top of the cell, he delivered a Pedigree and pinned Cactus to retain his title and, per the stipulation, force Mick Foley into retirement. Medical crews tried to help Cactus, but he refused and got up and walked out on his own accord, while the fans chanted "Foley" and gave him a standing ovation. |
