I am going to dispel a myth for you. If you cried when you found out that Santa Claus was a fake you had better stop reading now. Okay, ready for this?… Kane is not the Undertakers brother. Shocker, eh? What Kane is though, other than another successful creation by the WWF, is a genetic wonder. A genetic wonder that Vince could not let slip through his fingers as many other superstars had.
Glen Jacob’s is the man portraying the stoic hulk. You might remember him as Jerry Lawler’s personal dentist or as the re-birth of Diesel after Kevin Nash bolted. It is as Kane though that Glen has hitched a ride to super stardom with. He now has a solid identity albeit an unknown one after donning the red and black mask. Frankly, I can’t believe his fame has not come sooner.
Kane, like his fictional brother, is a phenom. They differ in that the Undertaker’s reputation is his call to glory where as Kane’s mere physical stature is a phenomenon itself. At around 6’10” and weighing over 300 pounds, Jacob’s dwarfs all those around him. Unlike a lot of “giants”, his physique is chiseled. He can deliver one-handed choke slams or fly off the top rope like a cat. He seemingly does not have a weakness. I have to admit though, much like Jacob’s other characters, I predicted Kane would have a short life span.
While in a predictable yet entertaining sibling rivalry, the WWF had to be thinking of what to do with the big red machine once he and the taker had overdone their war. They teamed him with Mankind and they won gold. They had him join Vince's corporation with Chyna as his sidekick. He feuded with Triple H and Mick Foley. It seems as if his partnership with X-Pac was a desperation move made by the WWF executives. They needed something for him to do until they could think of something really good for him to do. Although completely opposite in style and size, Kane and X-Pac began to click. They won tag-team gold and defended it successfully for a couple of months. As Kane is now starting to develop his character, the top WWF brass has probably stopped looking for a new chapter in Kane’s short story but rather a new plot to stir the pot with.
Now that we have established that Kane is here to stay, let’s just wait for the inevitable to happen. The day when Kane becomes a full-fledged member of DX. The day when he ditches the red spandex tights and opts for a new face mask – one that is painted neon green. |
