Hardcore Holly kicked off HEAT, just one hour before King of the Ring, taking on Gangrel. The Big Shot and the Gothic Warrior battled tooth-and-nail, each looking to make an impression. Gangrel scored with several near-falls, but Holly countered with a sweet dropkick, and dropped Gangrel for the win.

Headbanger Mosh took on Mideon. Mideon nailed the Eye Opener and won the bout.

Michael Cole asked Chris Benoit about his chances in the King of the Ring Tournament after losing his title to Rikishi on SmackDown! Benoit said that winning the Intercontinental Championship was the worst thing to ever happen to Rikishi, and after tonight, he would find out why.

Essa Rios went one-on-one with Stevie Richards. Stevie nailed the former Light Heavyweight Champion with a Stevie Bomb, but Essa was able to kick out. Rios was then able to kick out of another Stevie Bomb! Essa scored with a huge corkscrew plancha from the top rope and then with a top-rope hurricanrana. He defeated Stevie with a stunning moonsault.

In another area of the FleetCenter, Michael Cole caught up with Linda McMahon. Cole was confused, since Linda wasn't scheduled to be in attendance. Linda said she was there to do something she had never done before -- confront her husband, Vince McMahon. In their locker room, Stephanie and Triple H seemed to become angered by that news.

"King Kurt," said Coach, "How does that make you feel?" A teary-eyed Angle said that as much as he liked that title, there was one he liked even better -- "King Kurt, WWF Champion."

D'Lo Brown and Perry Saturn took on the Acolytes next, and the APA was out in full force. D'Lo blasted Faarooq with the Sky-Hi, but Bradshaw broke up the pin. Finally, after a powerbomb, Faarooq got the pin on Saturn.
