While an active competitor, Foley had the reputation for enduring more pain that anyone, and although he is happily retired from active competition, his maniacal personality remained on display while penning four best-selling books. After being fired as Federation Commissioner by Vince McMahon in December of 2000, Foley left Federation programming for ten months until he reappeared on the October 11, 2001, episode of SmackDown! He then informed the world that Linda McMahon had chosen him to replace the Alliance-bound William Regal as the Federation's Commissioner yet again!
