IWA May PPV:IWA Mayhem
From:Bankstown Trotting Club
2/5/99
Hosted By:Paris Tenana and TNT
There was standing room only when MAYHEM occurred, one of the IWA's biggest crowds yet. Paris Tenana made the usual pre match announcements but before the show could properly commence, he was jumped by former IWA champ Mark Mercedes, and his manager, the ferret- like, Curtis A Hughes. Paris exited the ring remarkably quickly and Club Mercedes began their usual, and much hated, harassing of the crowd. Eventually they left to the jeers and boos and the always popular chant of "Where's your belt?"
Frank The Tank v Michael Premutico
Big Phil Damage accompanied Frank to ringside, and carried a chair with him. A classic pitting of brute strength in Frank against technical skill in Premutico, but Premutico's extra experience and current winning form saw him holding the advantage for much of this match. Both men scored several two counts, with Frank the Tank proving to be almost impervious to whatever punishment Michael Premutico dished out.
Finally it looked as if Frank had been worn down and Premutico nailed him with a huge body slam, and unfortunately hurt himself whilst landing. As referee Skinny McQuinney checked out the injured rookie, Big Phil Damage stormed into the ring with the chair. Premutico moved quickly and Frank got the chair shot instead. Premutico quickly took advantage of this, got Frank The Tank with his Death Valley Driver, and followed up with a beautiful leg drop from the top rope for the three count. Big Phil seemed to snap when Premutico was announced as the winner and went on to nail him with the chair, and then he went after Frank, finally getting him as he was leaving ringside.
Next up was an interview with former legal representative of Club Mercedes, Percy Sludge. Percy expressed the remorse and regret expected of anyone who'd been employed by Club Mercedes and then seen the light. After enough groveling to satisfy a distrustful and noisy crowd, the really not-so-bad-after-all Percy told us he was bringing out Thunder, but it was 7ft Thunders opponent for the night, Wayne "the Punisher" Pickford who appeared at ringside.
The Punisher taunted the crowd and basically called Thunder a bit on the stupid side. Ironically, it was Pickford who was looking stupid when the IWA Champion appeared and he bolted, really quickly. Thunder went on to thank Mark Mercedes for losing to him at the Central Coast and giving him his nice, shiny belt back.
Brian Canon v "The Aryan Warrior" Mehdi Basiri
A fast paced and brutal match which saw the first half dominated by an onfire Mehdi, who slammed Canon with an arsenal of powerful moves which should have defeated anyone but never got more than a two count. Canon was powerbombed more times than I can remember, he was clotheslined, he was suplexed, you name it and Canon had it done to him but he kicked out every time and went back for more.
Finally a double clothesline put both down and Canon got up first and finally mounted an offensive, climbing to the top rope for a well placed leg drop. Brian Canon then got a couple near falls, one notably after a particularly viscous face buster. Canon then went on to win with the Scorpion Death Drop for the pinfall.
Mark Mercedes V Stephen Swann
Referee for this match was the icon "Fozzy Bear" Graham Young, and it was a grudge match, following Swanns interference leading to Mercedes' loss of the IWA title last weekend.
Quote of the night came before the match started when Percy said "Mercedes isn't buffed, he's stuffed."
This was undoubtedly this best match in Australia this year, if you weren't there you missed it, buy the tape. It had everything, BUY THE TAPE!
It looked like it was going to end when "The Adelaide Assassin" Swann got Mercedes into the Swannsong, but the ex champion got to the ropes and broke the hold. Mercedes then escaped a Minchinoku Driver and after a little interference from Curtis, Mercedes got a pinfall on Swann, using the ropes for extra leverage. Now get the tape.
IWA Heavyweight Championship Match
Wayne "The Punisher" Pickford v 7ft Thunder
Pickford won this title shot at the Royal Rumble in Richmond a few weeks back and he's certainly made a big impression in the short time he's been with the IWA. And he's so sure of himself that he had the gall to offer 7ft Thunder the chance to bail out of the match now, and just hand the belt over. Thunder just picked him up and tossed him out of the ring.
The Punisher did prove to be a formidable opponent though and gave Thunder considerable trouble, dominating the giant early on with a devastating jaw breaker and several semi legal chokes. Pickford wrestled, cheated wrestled, brawled and beat on the champion but nothing proved effective against the huge Thunder. Referre Fozzy succumbed to one of the Punishers few misplaced moves and was temporarily incapacitated.
Always ready to take advantage of such a situation, the inherently sadistic Pickford bought out his torch and handcuffs and started to attack Thunder with the torch. Thunder fought back and soon had possession of the torch, but Fozzy came round, and seeing Thunder with the torch, called the match to end via Thunders disqualification, making Pickford the winner of the match but Thunder retains his title.
Thunder then pinned Pickford anyway and then handcuffed him and chased him away.
IWA April PPV:
From:IWA Arena
4/4/99
Hosted By:Wildside and TNT
For the Cruiserweight title-
Match #1:Mike Premutico(c) VS Ash Phoenix
This was a re-match between these two fighters as their previous encounters were interupted by J.T and Wildstyle. fortunately there were no interuptions this time as the Cruiserweights put on a great show, diplaying their high-flying abbilities. Phoenix gained the lead with an Ash
Cross Body Block, but Premutico's experience came to the fore with a Premutico Plunge for the 3 count.
Winner and still Cruiserweight Champ:Mike Premutico
Match #2:Aryan Warrior VS The Tank
The Ayran Warrior gained the early lead but The Tank reversed an Irish Whipand countered with his own Avalanche, but the Warrior delivered a Sidewalk Slam for the win out of no-where
Winner:The Ayran Warrior
Match #3:Best of 3 Falls Match-Steve Swann VS Von Stekker.
The Swann came out and got on the mic and challenged Von Stekker for a 3 falls match to settle their feud. Stekker accepted and the match was immediatly underway. Swann gained the psycological advantage by getting the first pin with a Northern Lights Suplex, but Stekker lashed out and nailed Swann with the Oriental Crossbow....the score was now 1 all. After a duck under a clothesline and a folding Bodyslam Swann won the match 2 to 1.
Winner by 2 pinfalls to 1:Steve Swann
Match #4:IWA Heavyweight title Championship match-Marc Mercedes(c) VS 7ft Thunder
Mercedes was unwilling to defend the title so Thunder made a compromise:They would have an arm wrestle. If Thunder won Mercedes would have to defend the title, but if Mercedes won, He didn't. The arm wrestle was won by Thunder and the bell rung immediately. While the ref was checking for foreign objects Mercedes whacked Thunder but Thunder did the Massive 7ft Chokeslam! Mercedes' stooges then threw salt in Thunder's but TNT came out and knocked Mercedes out cold. The ref only made a two count and then stopped, but TNT forced him to make the count for the win. Thunder is the new IWA Heavyweight champ!
