SUBMISSION FIGHTING combines Submission Wrestling and Kickboxing.
OBJECT: Make your opponent submit by any legal means. No points, no time limits.
As in Stand-Up Fighting, there is both a HIGH-GEAR and a LOW-GEAR category.
LOW-GEAR =
(1) a single mouthpiece (everyone)
(2) a cup (men), or a sportbra (women)
HIGH-GEAR =
(1) Head Guard with Face Cage (see GEAR SUPPLIERS: AWMA)
(2) Chest Guard (AWMA or KIM PACIFIC)
(3) COBRA CHOP GLOVES (KIM PACIFIC) or KEMPO GLOVES (AWMA). COBRA CHOPS are preferred by experts, because they are smaller, lighter, and the fingers are more free to move. However, the KEMPO GLOVES are required for BAT FIGHTING and NUNCHAKU FIGHTING (because they cover and protect the fingers), so, some people choose to economize by purchasing and using just one type of glove (the KEMPO GLOVES). Also, some beginners will scrape their fingers on the face guard of their opponents head gear while punching -- if their fingers are not covered, so, the KEMPO GLOVE is the way to go for beginners.
FOULS:
*You may not kick a fallen opponent.
*You may not throw your opponent so that he or she lands directly on his or her head or neck
*You can NOT strike the neck & throat area
*No hair pulling.
*No striking or gouging with fingertips ( and nails must be clean & trimmed). However, you may strike with the "secondary knuckles".
LOW-GEAR: Knees, elbows and headbutts are all fouls. Also, you may not strike the head or face, neck or spine.
HIGH-GEAR: All strikes are allowed while you are both standing, except those to the neck & throat area. You can NOT kick a fallen opponent. You can NOT grab inside the face guard, chest guard, gloves, or clothing.
