Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty-Part 1
In the year 2000, a game trailer which lasted nine minutes was shown at the E3 show. This trailer left journalists crying for air, developers staring in amazement and the public plain gobsmacked. This trailer, was of the most anticipated game in the world. Forget your Marios, Zeldas, Pikachus, Crazy Taxis, Phantasy Stars. This was the big one! Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, looks by far, the greatest game in the world to date. To think that the director, Hideo Kojima, was disappointed when he found that he couldn't animate 20,000 soldiers in one frame with Playstation 2 is one thing, and to say that the Plsyatation 2 was "A Bugger" to develop for is another. If there was one guy pushing the limits of gaming, it's him. Shortly after, though, more footage was shown at the ECTS. Maybe not as long at two and a half minutes, but still exhilarating. So. What IS so good about this game? This is what this preview is all about.

Shadows
------------
Whether you're inside, or outside, you've always got to watch out for shadows. If you're outside, beware of lightning, as the shadows it causes, gives your position away. When you're inside, however, there is light all the time. If you're lurking behind a crate, and a soldier is walking past, if he spots your shadow, you're done for. Very challenging.

AI
---
The soldiers AI(Artificial Intelligence) is amazing in this game. Fans of the PSOne game(which is nearly everyone) are going to be surprised if they think the guards are going to be as dumb as that game. Oh no, no, no. My friends. We have a revolution here. Say you're hiding behind a wall in the shadows. There is one guard coming towards you. In Metal Gear Solid, you would just hope he doesn't see you, and if he does, kill him. In the sequel, however, you can quickly come out of your hiding and point a gun at him. Unlike the guards in MGS, who just shoot you any way, these guards drop their weapon and put their hands up. Amazing! All this depending on the chances. If there are three or four guards, they won't do that because thay have the advantage, but as it's one on one with you pointing a gun at them, they surrender. Soldiers can come in groups of four to five. Each group act in their own single way. Like a fingerprint. Each group has got a different one. When a group consists of soldiers with shields, and soldiers with guns, the shield men come to the front to protect the soldiers with the guns, who are behind them. To get rid of the shield men, you can either shoot a lot, while wasting your bullets, or you can go into first person mode and shoot their legs which they don't cover.

A good addition to the game, is the tranqulizer gun. If you don't want to waste bullets, use a tranquilizer, and depending on where you shoot the guard, the guard will go to sleep. Shoot him in the head, and he'll go to sleep in an instant for quite long, shoot him in the back when he's wearing a rucksack, however, it'll just bouce off. Shoot him in the leg, and the tranquilizer won't be as effective as shooting in the head.
That's it for part one. Watch for part two coming soon...
