Spells Spells are just rituals you perform to accomplish a specific goal. You can make up your own, or try some of the ones here. Ever noticed that not all your spells work perfectly every time? Many a non-Pagan has asked me over the years, whether or not all of this stuff is real. Do spells really work? Anyway, the answer is "yes". Spells and magick do work. Unfortunately, many folks then go on to assume that also means spells work exactly how we want them every single time. Now, that is not true. Casting spells or performing magick is a skill like any other. Few people can pick up a trumpet and play like Louis Armstrong on their first try. It takes time, practice, experience and knowledge to make magick work for you. A novice should not expect all of their spells to be successful and immediate. Far from it. If you find that a spell has had no results, it may just be that you haven't seen any. For example, if you cast a spell for an increase in money, your magick may actually prevent a loss of money that you weren't expecting. Or an opportunity may have presented itself to you that you didn't recognize. Or your spell is working it's way farther into the future than you had planned. Some might say that a spell will not work if the Gods don't feel that it's in your best interest for it to succeed. I'm not sure if I believe this viewpoint or not. Though I feel that Deity does watch over and protect us, I just can't accept that they would interfere in such a direct manner. I could be wrong, of course. An of course, there are the spells that cause things to happen, but not what we were expecting or wanting. Don't blame the magick. This often happens when you are vague in your spell wording, or let your mind wander away during the ritual. Again, practice makes perfect! So if you are trying new spells without much success, all I can say is to keep trying. Take some time away from spellwork to do more research, and perhaps get an idea why your magick isn't working. You could also practice some meditation to focus your mind, or experiment with other kinds of spells. Most importantly, don't get discouraged. To Bless Your Book of Shadows You will need: A Blue Candle A Purple Candle A Red Candle A Green Candle A Yellow Candle Directions: Whether your BOS is a heavy-bound journal, a small personal diary, or a 3-ringed notebook, this spell will guard your book and enchant its pages. On the night of the Full Moon, cast your circle and place your BOS on your alter. Situate 5 candles (Purple, green, yellow, red, and blue) around your book in a rough pentagram shape. If you see fit, you can place the candles in their correct positions: Purple Blue +Green+ Red+ Yellow Light the candles, starting with the purple and ending with the blue, and say this or another verse: By the powers of center (north, south, east, west), The forces of spirit (earth, air, fire, water), I bless and protect this Book of Shadows From all unwanted forces and beings. With your power hand, athame, or wand, draw an invoking pentagram on your BOS's cover and say: May no unprepared eye or hand behold this Blessed Book of Power. Ancient Mother, behold this book. Guard and bless its pages. Ancient Father, behold this book. Guard and bless its pages. By the powers of the Moon and stars above me. So shall it be. With this, the ritual is done. Some chose to bury the candles. Others choose to use them for another spell. It's your choice what you do. It is recommended that this spell is done for the 4 sabbats to mark your progress and increase in power, but it also can be done once a year on that same month's Full Moon. Room Candle Cleanse You need: White candle and holder, Salt Place the candle in the middle of the room. Sprinkle the salt in a circle deosil around the candle. Light and say: ‘Creature of wax Creature of fire Listen to me Hear my desire Cleanse this room By the power of three And blast away all negativity With harm to none So shall it be’ Leave to burn for at least 1 hour. Witch's healing candle spell To help speed a recovery from illness, write the sick person's name upon a white human-shaped candle of the appropriate gender. As you anoint it with three drops of myrrh or mint oil, visualize healing energy in the form of white light flowing from your hands into the candle and say: In the divine name of the Goddess Who breathes life into us all I consecrate and charge this candle As a magical tool for healing. Place the candle on top of a photograph of the sick person and then light the wick. As the candle burns down, concentrate upon the person in the photograph, willing him or her to be well again, and chant the following incantation: Magick mend and candle burn, Sickness end; good health return. Duplicating Spell Hold the object in your dominant hand. Close your eyes and visialize two instead of one and as you do say these words... That which is one Now becomes two That which is two Forever will be That which will be Shall appear to you This spell takes time and it will show when you least expect it. Dragon's Charm A Spell to invoke Dragons.... which are actually Astral beings which can be good and sometimes bad. "On wings of thunder, honor bound, Search me out, I drum the sound. Twist and turn in the night, Dragon come my guardian light. Protector, guardian, friend not foe, Come to me, see my sigil glow. Strong and true, this friendship charm, I be thee, protect me from harm. Around and about my magic swirles, Come to me, your wings unfuled. Welcome o guardian of (person's name)" Consecrate an object You will Need: Incense White candle Bowl of water and bowl of salt Item to consecrate. Light some incense, preferably myrrh or patchouli and a white candle. Take the item, cover it with salt, place your right hand over the bowl (unless your left handed, then use your left hand) and envision a white light leaving your palm and passing through the bowl, washing awway all the negative energies. Then say: "Blessed Lord and Lady, with salt and smoke I consecrate this tool in your name. Let it serve me will." Remove the item from the salt, shaking of the salt as you do so, pass it through the incense smoke, sprinkle it with water, then pass it through the candle flame. Your item is now consecrated. Help studying for a Test Just cast a circle as you would normally. Have the study material with you as you say this: "Facts and Figures rules and laws. Fill my mind and give me cause. To answer questions, fulfill tasks, and know the things I shall be asked. When I'm challenge give me aid to receive a passing grade. All this knowledge stay with me. As is my will, so mote it be." (NOTE: DO study for whatever you are using this spell for!!!! DO NOT go into a test with out study!!!!!!) Power Chant Now's the time Now's the hour I'm the magick I'm the power! Increasing Power You will Need: Eolh, Wynn, Sigel and Uhr runes or run cards. Move your hand deosil round them and chant "Eolh, Wynn, Sigel, Uhr, Come to me from where you are. Guide the things I do or say and let your wisdom come my way." To increase their power tap them three times before saying the chant. Divination Spell Best Time: Waxing Moon Fill a cauldron half-full of water and place it on a table where you can see comfortably into it while seated. Light 2 purple candles and a good divination incense; a combination of mugwort and wormwood work well. Arrange the candles so their light does not shine into the water in your eyes. Focus your attention on the bottom of the cauldron, your hands placed lightly on either side. Breathe gently into the water and say: Cauldron, reveal to me that which I seek, Great Mother, open my inner eye that I may truly see. Empty your mind as much as possible; remain relaxed while looking dee Spell to Heal Old Wounds and Make A Fresh Start Perform on an incoming tide, when the moon's new hold a silver coin, 2 seashells, and Vervain leaves in your hand and hold it towards the sea and ask for the moon's blessing. Then drink a toast to the sea and moon. Focus on your purpose and throw 1 shell as far as you can into the ocean (while chanting your wish). With the other, write your wish and your name in the sand below the tide mark. Wrap the shell and coin in the Vervain leaves and count seven waves hitting the shore, and bury it in the middle of your message. As you wait for the tide, chant: "Tide and time receive my wish, And grant me new beginnings" When the water covers your message the spell is done. TO BREAK A VOODOO CURSE On a night when the Moon is in a waning phase, take a blood root (a favorite Voodoo root used for breaking all evil spells and hexes) and throw it onto the doorstop of the person who has placed the curse upon you. You will then be released from his or her magickal power and the imprecation will immediately be turned back to the sender of the curse. TO BREAK A SORCERER'S CURSE If you feel that a sorcerer or sorceress has placed a magickal curse upon you, your home, or your family, perform this curse-breaking spell just before midnight on the last night of the Full Moon. Light a new white candle and burn any of the following incense in a fireproof container: cloves, frankincense, hyacinth, lilac, pine or sage. Hold a lucky rabbit's foot charm over your heart and repeat the following incantation thirteen times: "With rabbit's foot and magick verse I turn around this wicked curse. As these words of mine are spoken Let this evil spell be broken." Repeat this spell nightly (using a brand-new candle each time) until the phase of the New Moon. Wrap the leftover wax from the candles in a white piece of cotton and then bury it in the ground in a secret spot where it will remain undisturbed. WHEN CURSED BY UNKNOWN PERSON "Spell and magick be gone (say this three times) That has been placed on me by person(s) known or unknown to me Go back from whence you came Remain with whom you came from Be with who you were sent by" Then visualize a pyramid going over you. "I am under universal light and universal protection Nothing less then universal perfection can touch me were I am The forces of this spell do leave So mote it be. A SPELL TO REMOVE CURSES FROM YOURSELF Light 1 pink candle, 1 green, and a black candle. Be sure that NOBODY else can see you (close all curtains, doors, windows, etc.) Now, get a bowl full of water and put 3 drops of green dye in it. Now that you've done that, slowly tip the bowl over each candle allowing them to be extinguished while at the same time chanting: "Juina Shelt Fonsed." You must do this very slowly and imagine the spell being lifted from your body and all the good luck and fortune that will soon come to you and the evil that will go to the person that placed the hex/curse upon you TO BREAK A CURSE Take five white candles and arrange them in a pentagram. Place a black candle, which symbolizes the curse, in its center. The words revealed here must be spoken by the ones afflicted by the curse: "Evil curse that blights out lives Be lifted now and flee These candles' lights overcome the dark From its grasp, set us free TO MAKE SOMEONE LEAVE YOU ALONE This is a variation on a popular spell used to stop someone from harming or bothering you. This must be performed during a waning moon. On a piece of parchment or recycled paper, write the name and birthdate of the person you are wishing "away". Now fill an air-tight container (like a baby food jar or Tupperware container) with water. Add a pinch of one or more of these magical herbs:ash tree leaves, clover, lovage, lilac, garlic. Take the paper with the name on it and fold it three times. Tie a black string or thread around it and drop it in the water. Seal the container up and bury it in a safe spot in your garden, yard or flower box. Once the person has left you alone or no longer poses a problem to you, open the container and empty it to the earth. Keep the container instead of leaving it to Mother Earth. Tavern Talisman: Keep away people who do not have your best interest at heart, and attract those that do. For this talisman you'll need a small jar of avocado skin cream (for attractiveness); add to this a drop of rose scented oil (for love) and a myrrh tear (for protection). If possible, add myrrh and oil when the moon is in Gemini, to help bring diverse factors into agreement. Stir the cream clockwise, saying: Let the beauty within shine without. Astarte, erase my fears and doubts. Let those who care little, quickly depart; to those who care much, I extend my heart. Keep this container with you. Rub a little on your hands or on your face just before meeting someone new (or soon after meeting them). Image-ination This charm is designed to increase your awareness of positive attributes, and to accentuate those to the people you meet or care about. You will need a small mirror and four tiny tumbled cat's eyes stones that have a flat side. During a waxing moon, go out into the night and glue the four stones on the mirror at the four compass points. As you place each one repeat the appropriate incantation: East: Here a new outlook begins South: See radiance burning in my heart West: See honest emotions flowing from me North: See a spirit filled with beauty Keep this nearby as often as possible. When you feel your self-esteem slipping or others' opinion of you are hurtful, look into the mirror and see the truth. Another more simple way to go about finding the right attraction would be to daily meditate on the sort of attraction you desire to have from someone. Visualize how that attraction starts, grows, and becomes a great relationship. Nothing works better than your own mind's power! Attract Romance in your life Spell It might not bring the single person you want to you, but it will in general increase your attractiveness to potential mates and will increase your attraction towards other people. You will need three cards for this spell as well as at least three red candles (thirteen is best, but I've never had enough... sometimes I'll use three and subsitute a white for purity, psychic power and truth in for one of the red... ) a piece of red cloth to lay the cards down and any stones or flowers you feel are appropriate. The three cards you need vary from spell to spell. As a standard you use the Star (or equivalent in your deck) for powerful unseen forces and fate, The knight of cups, representing a man or a woman who involves you in an affair, your "knight in shining armour" If you are looking for a woman and this ideal does not sit well with you, you could easily use the empress, the high priestess or any of the queens you like the best. Basically, you want to find one of the face cards which you feel would make an appropriate mate for you. The last card you use, of course, is the Lovers. You are going to place these three cards in that order going diagonally down. (the star being at the highest left position and the lovers being at the lowest right position) This spell should always be performed right before going to bed... and it's usually best if you perform some sort of ritual cleansing before casting. Lay the cloth out and put the Star down. Light the first candle while making an affirmatin towards the good spirits and forces. I usually say something like " I call upon all good spirits. I call upon the goddess, I call upon the wide-ruling powers. In this hour, Make smooth the way that my love may be brought to me. Blessed Be" Think about why you are casting this spell before you move on to the next card. Lay down the knight of cups (or whichever card you've chosen), light the second candle and think about what you desire in a partner. Lay the third card down, light the third candle, and think about what it would be like with a parnter of your dreams. Take the remainder of the candles (if you have them, if not, skip this step) and make a circle around the cards. Light them as you say an affirmation. This is similar to what I usually say: "I call for love and it comes to me Guided by the light of my flames whether it be from far or near, love is drawn to me. I give love, I recieve love. As I desire, so I have love So I ask and so it shall be." Now blow out the candles. Wrap the cards separately from the deck and leave them that way as you sleep. Daydream before you drift into sleep about love. If you believe in what you're doing, something will most certainly come from it. FOR KEEPING A SPELL FROM BACKFIRING If a Witch is sick and needs to cast a spell, he/she can bind it. This will keep the spell from backfiring and causing harm to anyone else, most importantly to his/herself. The Witch must procure a thread with a color as dark as the nightly sky. Light an incense of Sandalwood and Lavender, and as the incense fills the air, he/she must make three knots on the ribbon as he/she intones the words that follow: By the Karmic Power of Three This spell tied and knotted be To cause no harm nor return to me As I will it, so must it be The ribbon must be carried when casting the spell as a talisman to keep it from backfiring.
