It is important that spells are crafted by one self. This way, we, the creator gives thought and time into creating it, thus we pour life and power into them.

Write my own spells

Why should I learn to write my own spells when I could just use someone else’s? Magick, as an occult science, is one of the most powerful methods of achieving a desired goal. However, in order for a spell to be successful, it must have individual meaning to the caster. This meaning can be achieved through other peoples pre-made spells, providing that the one who is to cast the spell understands the symbolism behind it. However, a much better way to go about achieving this understanding of the spell is to actually create it yourself. This why every person truly interested in magick should know how to make there own spells.
So how do I go about making the spell? The first and most important thing to do when creating a new spell is to make sure that it will not cause any harm or interfere with anyone or anything's free will.
If this is what you want to use a spell for, then stop right now. In magick there is what is known as the law of three. This law states that "any magical action, good or bad, will come back to the caster threefold." Therefore not only is it morally wrong, but it is physically dangerous to practice negative magick.
Once you have determined that your magick is not harmful, the next thing to look at is whether or not the spell is really needed. Could you get the same effect from another course of actions?
If so than you are most likly wasting precious time and energy creating a spell for it. Okay, so what kind of spells can I cast? Don't believe that simply because of these few restrictions that magick is useless. Far from it! Spells can still be written to obtain careers, love (not of a specific person, but to find someone right for you), psychic power, fertility, and many, many more innumerable things, just remember to abide by the rules.
Alright, I know what kind of spell I want, and that I can safely cast it,what now? This is where the real stuff begins. What you must do now is determine what kind of magick your spell will be.
Magick is generally classified into two groups -
folk magick, and
diety magick.
The main difference between the two is where you draw your power from.
Folk magick is magick in which you draw all the power and engergy from within to complete your task. Often, folk magick uses tools such as candles, runes, stones, and herbs, to help directthe energy better.
Diety magick on the other hand is magick in which the practioner draws his energy from a particular God or Goddess, or sometimes even several of them. Magick of this type tends to be more difficult and intricate, but is extremly more powerful. One thing to watchout for with this type of magick however, you must understand that you are working with divine forces, which means (of course) that you must honestly believe in the diety from which you call upon, and that the task for which you call upon him/her is serious. The gods are generally very busy beings, and it must seem rather rude to waste either time because you want luck in finding a good deal on a prom dress.
So I've decided what type of magick to use, now what?
Gather tools. A tool in magick, is defined as an object used in the castingof a spell, through which, the energy needed to complete the task at hand is directed. The type of tool you use very much depends on the type of magick and type of spell you have chosen. For example, let's say you want to cast a folk magick spell to gain more money for an upcoming expense you have to pay. I this case, a good tool to use would be a green candle (green being symbolic of money) dressed in patchouli oil. However, were you trying to cast a ritual magick spell for protection, then you would need all the tools it takes to cast a circle plus an image of the God(s) you wish to invoke, and an object which you associate with protection.
Alright, my tools are gathered, now what? Now it is time to actually write the spell. There are a couple of important things to remember during this process. The first is to bear in mind what type of magick this is. If it is a folk spell, leave the gods out of it,there is no need to write in any mention of them. If it is a religious spell, then you can't forget to cast the circle and invoke the powers you wish to use.
Just as a note, invocations should never demand the presence of what ever it is you are trying to invoke, instead, you should politely ask, or "humbly request" their presence. Remember, your the human, they're the diety!
Another important thing to keep in mind is when the spell should be cast. Cast spells to gain things, or draw new situations toward you, during the waxing (new to full) phase of the moon. Cast spells to keep unwanted things away or rid yourself of unwanted problems during the waning (full to new)phase of the moon. It is customary not to preform acts of magick during the new moon.
Also, spells cast during planetary retrograde (especially Mercury)or when the moon is void of course often do not work properly or at all. You should consult a Wiccan Calendar to find out when these times are. Lastly,it is obvious that the best time to invoke the Holly King is not on midsummer night's eve. So remember seasonal entities and when they should be used.
A well written spell has several important elements. The first of these is to make any preparations nescessary (i.e circle casting, offerings, carvingand dressing of candles, ect.). The next element is invoking the powers (in Diety magick) or raising energy (in folk magick). Usually it is helpful for this part of the spell to rhyme, or at least have rhythm, especially in folk magick.
This is because words which rhyme tend to have a more profound effect on our subconcious.
The next important part of the spell is visualization. This is the part where the actual magick is sent out. Visualization, therefore, is a very important part of any spell. When you vizualize, first "see" the energies that you have speading toward their goal. This could be in the form of a colored light shooting out from your hand and into the world. Or magickal smoke of greys, blues, oranges, reds, and greens flowing from the candle or incense you have just lit.
It could be a silvery moonbeam from the goddess Diana that kisses your forehead. The truely important thing here is just to visualize it, and believe it will work.
Remember, everything that you do in life is 90% mental and 10% physical. If you mentally believe that your spell will work, it will produce physical results. Now close your eyes and imagine the final outcome of your goal.
In other words, don't imagine getting the money you need for the bill that has to bepaid, viualize the bill as paid. Don't see your self meeting the girl/guy ofyour dreams, see yourself being with them. Holding their hand and walking down the beach, kissing, happy and in love. The spell now is complete, all that is left is to actually cast it. Congradulations, you have just created your own spell!
What are some tips I can use to make this process eaisier? There are a couple of things you can do to make spell writing easier for your self.
One thing that I highly recomend doing is masting two or three specific types of arcane lore, and incorporating them into your spells.
For example, I am knowlegable in the areas of color magick, the runes, and (to some degree) gems. This makes candle magick ideal for me. Whenever I can cast a spell with candle magick, I dress a candle of the appropriate color and engrave magickal rune scripts on it's sides. I then charge it for my intended goal, and when I choose to burn it, the magick is made more powerful by the runes.
This is just one example, and I suggest looking through everything before making a choice on what topic you will be come a master of. Some people prefer astrology and herbs as thier choice areas of expertise. It's all up to the Witch.
Another thing that can be done to help you out, is to learn from others. I can't stress enough the value of a good book. Be an information sponge. Don't ever pass up what somebody has to say, because it could end up being a valuable tool for you in the future.
Lastly, remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, and that nobody can just jump into magick and instantly be a master of it. Practice makes perfect, some persistant.

A Witch's Prayer

To pray a request from the Witch Gods of Old
When thou needest aid comfort or gold
Follow this ancient method of prayer
By candles and incense to the Old Gods Fair
Light two candles of lily white
For the God and the Goddess Of Love's pure light
Place between them Thy Book of Witch Law
Thy Book of Shadows that hath no flaw
Any day or planet's hour be right
To bask Thyself in the Old Gods sight
With an incense of floral scent
Thy prayers are heavenward bent
Anoint a white candle With thy Zodiac ointment
And summon the Old Gods to meet Thy appointment
Light it right up to burn for thee
And speak right out: BLESSED BE!
Write Thy request in Dove's Blood Ink
On parchment to shine In the candlelight a bright rosy pink
Light a fourth white candle And place the parchment below
To represent Thy request by candle glow
Calling the Old Gods to attend Thy desire
Speak these words over the fire:

O LORD OF LIFE AND GRACIOUS GODDESS DELIGHT
I OPEN MY HEART TO THEE MY SOUL TAKES FLIGHT
READ MY THOUGHTS ON THIS PARCHMENT LETTER
AND AID ME TO MAKE ALL THINGS BETTER
Meditates deep on thy request so clear
And offer thy heart to the Old Gods Dear
When the last white candle is half way burned
Much from Thy meditation Shall have been learned
Burn the request in the flow of its fire
To the gods then goes Thy heart's desire

The Pentacle
by Amber Skyfire

The pentacle is the most misused and misunderstood symbol of witchcraft. Usually seen as a five-pointed star surrounded by a circle, it has been mistaken for a symbol of evil, devil worship, and at times even the star of David. A star without the circle is called a pentagram. Before it was used by witches, the pentacle was a Christian symbol. It was used by the Catholic church to symbolize the five wounds of Christ. This star can be found in an around ancient churches dating up to the Gothic period of architecture. The five-pointed mark graced religious paintings of Christ, arches, doorways, and artifacts. Sir Gawain from Arthurian legends carried a shield with a large pentagram emblazoned on the front. This symbol has long been used for protection and as a symbol of faith. It can be found in the stem of a water lily when cut in half and also within the apple when cut sideways. Humans have five fingers, and it also represents the five extremities of the human body: head, hands and feet. Over the course of history, the pentacle was lost as a religious symbol as the cross took on more and more meaning. Today, it is misunderstood as a symbol of evil. Devil worship has taken the symbol of the pentagram and turned it upside down, symbolizing the defeat of Christ. It is often seen inverted with the face of a goat superimposed over it where the two upper points form the horns, the side points form the ears and the lower point forms the face. This symbol is called the baphomet and is used in Devil worship and by the Knight's Templar as the denial of Christ.

Suzanne Egbert States: "The meaning of the pentacle as worn by Pagans is rooted in the beliefs of the Greek Pythagoreans, for whom the pentagram embodied perfect balance and wisdom; inserting the star in the circle adds the symbol of eternity and unity."

Today, Wiccans and witches use the symbol of the pentacle as a religious symbol as well. The five points represent the five elements: earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. Some Wiccans use the pentacle to represent the mother figure and the inverted pentacle to represent the father figure. Others are wary of how others view their religion and many witches have given up the use of the inverted pentacle. This symbol, like the Christians of old, is used by witches as a symbol of protection. It is worn on chains and rings to protect their wearer and is inscribed on or over windows and doorways to prevent evil or harm from entering the home or sacred space. The pentacle is a solid object and is also used to symbolize the earth on altars.

WITCHES TOOLS

Magical tools are consecrated in rites involving the four elements, air, water, fire and earth. Magical tools are inscribed with Runes, Sigils and Symbols.

Witches tools are used in the consecration of Magic Circles.

ATHAME : The witches personal knife. Usually double bladed with a black hilt and made of steel.

CENSOR : Container used in the burning of herbs, incense and other substances. Used in removing the unwanted energies away from the magic site.

CHALICE : Associated with the female forces of fertility, beauty, womb, earth, and subconscious mind.

PENTACLE : Symbol of the earth. Used to ground energy and sometimes to serve food.

SWORD : Associated with the element fire, it is sometime used for casting the circle.

WAND : Symbolizes the life force within the witch.

HAZEL : The wood used in making a wand

GRIMOIRES

These are very old handbooks of magic, some of which may date back to ancient times. These books were well used during the 16th and 17th centuries.
In some covens they may still use some magic texts from these books. The original purpose of these grimoires was to conjure up the Demons who would be used by the magician to gain wealth or bring harm to enemies.

Grimoires give very detailed instructions which are very difficult to carry out. These instructions include what to wear, what prayers and incarnations to use, the tools that are required, precise astrological times, recipes for incense, seals, sigils, magic circles, amulets, talisman and more.

Grimories first came into common use around the 13th century and is thought by some to have been linked to the Knights Templar. A true grimoire is written by hand, those that are typed or mass produced are fake and should be thrown in the rubbish bin.

Much of the material in grimoires is taken from Egyptian texts dating back to around 100A.D. Using the Demons meant making a pact with them.

The grimoires help the magician outwit the demons so as not to fulfill the magicians end of the bargain. The greatest grimoire is "The Key of Solomon" which was attributed to the legendary King Solomon.

Another grimoire connected to Solomon was the "Lemegeton" which included both white and black magic.

MAGIC CIRCLE

The magical circle is a sacred place where all rites and ceremonies are carried out. It acts as a doorway to the Gods.
More important it is a boundary of concentrated power. Within the circle you are able to transcend the physical and open your mind to a higher level of consciousness.

In ancient times circles were drawn around sick people to protect them against demons. The circle was also used in ancient Pagan rites.

The circle serves to keep out unfriendly spirits. Negative energy is cleared prior to casting a circle.

The circle should be nine feet in diameter but larger circles are sometimes cast for large groups. The alter and ritual tools are placed inside the circle.

The circle is drawn on the ground or sometimes laid out with a cord. The witch visualizes a field of energy.

The working space of the circle is in fact a three dimensional sphere. Candles are placed on the ground at the cardinal points.

Coveners enter through a symbolic gate which is then closed. The circle is then consecreted with the four elements.

Then the gaurdians of the four elements are invoked. The God and Goddess are invoked through ritual.

The purpose of the ritual is then stated and carried out. At the close of the ceremony food and drink is offered to the coverners.

The candles are then extinguished and the circle is ritually closed.
