People are always e-mailing me, asking me how to open and close circles. Well, there are quite a few ways to do this, so here is an easy way to cast a circle, and close one. They take just a couple minutes each, and are very effective, yet VERY simple.

Casting:

You need a piece of wild or raw sage and a heat-proof incense holder.

Light the piece of sage, and hold it out in front of you.
With the sage, walk in a clockwise circle 3 times while saying
"By the powers of 1, 2, and 3, let this circle be!", each time you complete a full circle. So in other words, you end up saying it 3 times.
After you have done this, put the still burning Sage in the holder and let it burn itself out.

You don't have to use sage. You can use a power tool, or whatever feels most comfortable.
If you are invoking, you can add that in. And if you are inviting, make sure you add that in as well. If there is more than one person, the circle must be completed by forming a circle in some way.

Closing:

As with casting, you need sage and a holder.
Light the sage and hold it out.
Walk in a counter-clockwise circle 3 times, each time saying
"By the powers of 1, 2, and 3, This circle is now closed to thee! Blessed Be."
Don't forget to thank any/all gods and goddesses.

If the circle involved more than just you, the counter-clockwise circle must be completed by forming a circle in some way.
