South Park for Nintendo 64 was a resounding success for Acclaim, so it comes as no surprise that the company has deployed its development forces to make more incarnations of the franchise. So in comes South Park Rally, a kart racing game similar to Mario Kart with plenty of the profanities that we all love South Park so much for...

South Park Rally features nearly all of the characters from the show including the likes of a police tricycle-riding Cartman and a Wagon-equipped Chef. But the zaniness doesn't stop there. Oh no, not by a long-shot. The game casts scores of famous South Park personalities, from Mr. Hankey to the vocally-challenged Ned. And best of all, each character flings out one-liners spoken by the two and only Matt Stone and Trey Parker themselves. Keeping with South Park tradition, the one-liners in the title are predictably profane, censor-beeped out just enough to keep the four-letter words recognizable.

Each character will drive an appropriate car based on their personality:

Cartman (2 different cars): a jeep or decked out in his 'AUTHORITAH!' gear on a police big wheel

Stan: red Lamborghini

Kyle: red Porsche

Kenny: go-cart

Officer Barbrady: police car

Ned: jeep

Scuzzlebutt: wheeled basket

Big Gay Al: Big Gay Love Bug

Chef: station wagon

Death: Hertzs

Mr. Garrison: Volkswagon Beetle

Starvin' Marvin': a wagon carrying a wheat sack

Mephisto: Delorian (that car from the Back to the Future)

Stan's Grandpa: rocket-powered wheelchair

Satan: flame-painted hotrod

Jesus: a puffy little cloud

The courses in the title, based on real-life locations from the fictional television show, take place in and around South Park, Colorado. The levels we played were covered in snowy terrain but, fantastically, the choking layers of fog present in South Park 64 were nowhere to be found. This can be attributed to the fact that South Park Rally utilizes a far better game engine. Hopefully a variation of this engine will be explored for the Nintendo 64 incarnation of the game.

If you're thinking that South Park Rally plays very much like Mario Kart then give yourself a hand. You've got a brain. Acclaim, realizing that Nintendo 64 is in dire need of a kart title, did its very best to mimic the Mario racer and it has largely succeeded. South Park Rally goes above and beyond the call of duty, though, with an enhanced sense of speed and jumps that send karts and characters soaring through the air at times. Even better, it's got loads of weapons ranging from vehicle-fired missiles to fire-bombs, slicks and more. We've got no doubt that the final selection of guns and tools will be funny and original.

But let's be honest: South Park Rally is a multiplayer game to the bone, just like Mario Kart was before it. To this extent, Acclaim-Austin has implemented a four-player deathmatch mode by which players can race it out against one-another or face-off in a four-player, every-man-for-himself vehicle-based kill-fest.

Finally, we leave you with this quote taken directly from Acclaim's press-release: "This game is recommended for mature audiences only. It contains adult language and content." You can't resist the 'F' word, can you? Admit it, you're going to buy the title immediately.
