PlayStation2 Unveiled!
Today will be a day long remembered. The PlayStation 2 has been officially unveiled by Sony in Tokyo. We finally have a firm launch date, a launch price, a projected volume of initial shipments, pictures of the machine, and tantalizing details of Sony's plan for the future!
The initial details were largely what we've all been expecting, although there were are few stunning and exciting surprises:
1. Massive third-party support. We knew Sony would have support, but how much was not known. Now they say that 200 companies have already signed up to support PS2.
2. DVD Video will be included. Sony had not confirmed this before.
3. The system will ship with a high-speed 8MB memory card.
4. The system will ship with a new Dual Shock2 controller.
5. The system will be able to capitalize on the high-speed Internet access of the future - not just today's 56K modems, but the high-bandwidth cable modems of tomorrow.
6. Some sort of disk-storage device will be launched that will allow downloading of games.
In addition, the launch date was confirmed to be March 4, 2000 in Japan, Fall 2000 in Europe and the US. The Japanese launch price is 39,800 yen (about $370 US), but everyone should realize that the US launch price is expected to be significantly lower. |
I think this new Play station will be a big hit concidering it has DVD,plays cds,and has a 8 mb memo card.If I was you I would start saving my money for it. |
