As November Ends by Warren Brown

There is less than a month for Christmas. There is less than two months for the New Year. This is the time to spread good cheer for Christmas and the New Year.

As Christmas approaches huge preparations are underway. Grandmother carefully tends to her grape and raisin wines. Mother gently washes the dried fruits(which have risen in price since the War in Afghanistan) and dries them everyday in the Sun, to have them ready for the Christmas cakes, for the family. Dad sees to the face-lift for the house, from the house being painted, to the new curtains, new sofa-covers and other essential stuff, including getting all the presents together, for the family.

All this goes on while the young people of the Christian and Anglo-Indian community see to their new clothes at the tailors, new shoes, tickets for dances, on the 24th and 31st of December.

Music Bands now have their bookings made for all the various shows, from the Rangers, Dalhousie Institute, Grail to wedding receptions, as well as shows and dances out of Cal , like at Kharagpur.

Paper decorators are now working furiously on their Christmas trees, decorations, while card-sellers do brisk business, with people posting Christmas cards to relatives and friends in Indian and abroad. The post office is deluged with Christmas cards and by December, a separate counter is opened.

Confectioners like Nahoums. Flury's and Kathleens are now gearing up for the Christmas rush.

After having finally recovered from jaundice, I can look forward, like the rest of the world to Christmas love, peace and joy.Throughout the year humanity lies dormant, until November, it is up to each one of us, to make every month radiate with the Spirit of Christmas joy, peace and Cheer.
