MEMORIAL DAY

Everyone has their views and perspective regarding
Memorial Day.
The media will discuss veterans of all wars.
I am a Viet Nam veteran.
I'd like to think that my war was different.
The truth is, it wasn't.
Tim Duffie, a friend of mine, said that best...
"We Vietnam veterans are not "special". We needn't be babied, coddled, or pampered. Primarily, we aren't to
be the object of simpathy.
Our dead friends are heroes, just like those who
died in World Wars I & II, Korea, the Gulf war,
and all previous wars.
We did not "fight for our country", as those of all
previous wars did not "fight for their country".
OUR COUNTRY HAS NEVER REALLY BEEN THREATENED.
We did, however, fight for our countries principles...
principles which are not, at this time,
granted to the people of Vietnam.
The following expresses my thoughts precisely.
If you plan to go to the "Wall", please don't
do so if your intent is to feel sorry for those
listed on the wall...or for those of us who
watched as they died.
Go to the wall to express your love, your
appreciation for their efforts, and your
understanding...then move on...as the vast
majority of Vietnam Veterans have done."

The longer I live after almost dying in Vietnam.
The more I realize the impact of that war on my life.
I cannot change that part of my past...nor can I change
the fact that people will act a certain way towards me
when they know.
I am convinced however that life is 10% what happens to
me and 90% how I react to it ! The remarkable thing is
that we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude
we will embrace.
As a Viet Vet that 10% will always be there. But I'll
continue to shake the dust from my boots...then move on...
as the vast majority of Vietnam veterans have done !
