Activity At The Old Cemetery

Prior to enlisting in the Air Force, friends and I would visit
the nearby beaches and go skinny-dipping. We also visited the
old town cemetery on Saturday nights. This is not the same
cemetery on the Mission grounds. We would sit on old 1800-
century graves, and pass around bottles of Spanada wine. We
would also get stoned like all the hippies did at that time.

The cemetery was within walking distance from every home.
At the top of the little hill, there was also a nice view of the
nearby Highway 156 bypassing the town. It was nice just tripping
on nothing. I knew nothing except for what I heard on the poetic
lyrics of (Black Sabbath) and (Bob Dylan).

This one particular September night, it was nice temperature
wise. It was also the best time of year to sit outside and enjoy
life. The dozen or so of my friends were wearing short sleeve
shirts, shorts, and leather sandals to go with our long hair.

While we were sitting on the cement part of the graves, we
decided to tell ghost stories to entertain ourselves. This wemt
on for about an hour when suddenly, someone screamed. This
sudden noise startled a couple of the girls, who in turn caused
a domino reaction. In seconds, everyone was running off in
different directions.

I stood still and watched as some people tripped and fell while
scrambling around. I was laughing and having a good time when
this cold breeze flew by me. A few seconds later, I felt it
penetrating through me. I did not know what it was but thoughts
were being implanted into my mind to leave the cemetery yard.

I quickly decided to walk back into town and as I walked over
graves, I received very confused messages. Souls were reaching
out and asking for help. Some were asking for prayers, others
were sending thoughts that were simply mean and intimidating.

I do not know why these spirits were sending thoughts to me.
Maybe one of my friends struck a cord or said something without
knowing he or she had the power to communicate with the dead.
I try to stay away from cemeteries even during the day. I get
images, feelings and sometimes visions when passing by particular
graves.

Another time, I was driving through main-street in San Juan
Bautista. I spotted my friend David Hudson who had just finished
his shift at a local restaurant. He was starting his long walk
towards his home which was about a three mile drive towards the
cement plant. He would really enjoy a ride home. I parked my VW
right next to the sidewalk and he was more than happy to get in.

We quickly started talking about the regular gossip in town and
somehow got onto the subject of spirits. About ten minutes later,
we got to a steep gravel driveway that led to his house on top
of a small hill. Dave gave me a “thank you” handshake, then
proceeded to walk up the driveway.

As my headlights guided him, he turned and waved goodbye. I
waited until he eventually reached the top of the driveway and
quietly disappeared into the night. I then put my VW in reverse,
straightened it out and headed back home. It was not cold, but
for some reason, I felt an intense chill inside my car.

Driving back was really a trip because it felt as if I had been drugged.
Everything was happening before me real slow and I could not
function normally. What probably only took several minutes to
get back to town, seemed like it took an hour.

When I reached the old house, I went to straight to bed. I felt
disoriented, confused and not just normal. Within an hour I was
feeling better but just could not figure out what had happened.

Years before this event happened, I remember bike riding to this
same area. I stopped at a certain spot because I felt this strange
scary feeling and decided not to go any further. Something told
me danger lurked ahead.

A few days later one of my police buddies said that several
accidents had happened in this area with unusual circumstances.
That’s all that he would say about the area.

I never liked traveling or visiting that area because it seemed that
I was always being watched by someone. There are also many cold
spots that are felt throughout the whole area.
