TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT JUNG MOO KWAN - The Jung Moo Kwan style of Korean Karate was originally referred to as "So Rim Yu Kong Soo" (Shorin Ryu Karate), So Ryong Yu Kong Soo (Shorei Ryu Karate), "Kong Soo" (empty hand) and "Tang Soo" (China Hand), and later adopted the term "Tae Kwon Do," although it is not similar to modern, Olympic-style Taekwondo. The Jung Moo Kwan has its roots in the earlier Chung Do Kwan, Jung Do Kwan, and Oh Do Kwan, both of which are traced back to Okinawan Karate and Gichin Funakoshi, and the indigenous "Taek Kyon" kicking art of Korea - making it a unique and hybrid form of "Koreanized" Karate. Jung Moo Kwan Korean Karate/Classic Tae Kwon Do was introduced into the United States by Grandmaster Wan Yung Chung in 1965. Jung Moo Kwan is listed by KIDOHAE of South Korea as one of 31 authentic "kwans" certified to teach traditional Korean martial arts. Dr. Owens is registered as "kwan jang" in Korea with KIDOHAE.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT - Dr. Charles Owens, 10th dan, is the President and Chief Instructor/National Training Director of the United States Jung Moo Kwan Association. His martial arts training began in 1966, and in addition to training more than 30 years under Wan Yung Chung, his other instructors and mentors have included Kwang Duk Chung, Gen. Choi Hong Hi, and Park Jung Tae. Dr. Owens has devoted himself to the perpetuation of the "kwan" concept of early Tae Kwon Do, the original hyung of Korean Karate, and the traditional training concepts of body conditioning, hyung/kata mastery, and intense one-step and three-step fighting.
The USJMKA exists to revitalize and preserve the "kwan" concept of Koreanized Karate and original Tae Kwon Do. It is the desire of Dr. Owens to build an organization which meets the needs of Black Belts and schools who share the common background and interest of traditional Tae Kwon Do Korean Karate.

WHAT WE OFFER - Accelerated Black Belt training camps, cross-rank certification, training and rank promotion through 8th dan in the USJMKA, class and school charters, seminars and clinics for all ages and ranks, and technical support for member schools and instructors.
