Chapter I: Buttercup's Budoukai
EXT. - TOWNSVILLE CITYSCAPE - DAY
NARRATOR: The city of Townsville. Now that I've said that on to the Powerpuff
Girls suburban home.
CUT TO:
INT. - POWERPUFF GIRLS' LIVING ROOM
NARRATOR: Hmm, it's empty. Let's try the girls' bedroom.
CUT TO:
GIRLS' BEDROOM
NARRATOR: Empty too. How about the kitchen.
CUT TO:
KITCHEN
CAMERA pans around to scan the kitchen, which is also empty. As the camera pans
a note is seen on the refrigerator.
NARRATOR: Hey, what's this. Let's see.
Close up of note.
NARRATOR(reading): Dear Narrator Guy, We will not be home this week. My sisters
and I have been invited to Japan to compete in the,(to himself) the mmm... how
do you prononce this? mmm...Ten...ka...ichi...Bu...dou...kai...(reading again)
Tenkaichi Budoukai. It's a tornament for martial artists from all over the
world. Wish us luck. Sicerely, Blossom.(finshes reading)
Wow, I wonder how the girls are doing.
FADE TO: EXT - TENKAICHI BUDOUKAI ARENA - JAPAN - DAY
BLOSSOM, BUTTERCUP, and PROFESSOR UTONIUM are standing at the side lines of a
fighting ring. BUBBLES is in the ring preparing to face of against her opponent,
a girl about the same age as Bubbles with black hair, she is wearing an orange
shirt and pants with a blue belt and orange/brown wristbands. Bubbles and
Blossom are wearing their normal blue and pink dresses with black belts.
Buttercup is more appropriately dressed in a green outfit similar to the one
worn by the girl Bubbles is fighting. It is currently the quarter-finals of the
elimination rounds, the girls and others are competing to be one of the twelve
finalists for a chance to fight the Champion, MR. SATAN. The stands are empty of
bystanders though, since the elimination rounds are held in private.
ANNOUNCER: And now for Bubbles Utonium's opponent, Pan, the granddaughter of our
hero, Mr. Satan!.
CUT TO:
SIDELINES
BLOSSOM: Mr. Satan? who's that?
BUTTERCUP: Twenty years ago he destroyed this monster named Cell. I read all
about him before we came here.
BLOSSOM: He really did that?
BUTTERCUP: Well, some say that a kid with gold hair actually destroyed him and
Satan just took the credit, but no one knows for sure.
BACK TO: Bubbles and PAN sizing each other up.
BUBBLES: Hi, I'm Bubbles
PAN(smiles): Yeah, I heard the announcer. Don't expect me to go easy on you,
kid.
BUBBLES(to herself): I don't wanna hurt her too bad. I better not use my
superpowers.
ANNOUNCER: Battle, BEGIN!
Bubbles and Pan assume fighting positions but before Bubbles can make a move Pan
disappears.
BUBBLES(looking back and forth): Huh? Where'd she go?
Before Bubbles can react Pan appears to her left and gives a hard tackle
knocking Bubbles to the ground. The ANNOUNCER begins a ten-count.
ANNOUNCER:...8...9...10! Pan is the winner!
PROFESSOR: Bubbles, are you okay?
BUBBLES: ...uh...what happened?
BUTTERCUP: You lost.
BUBBLES: Oh. (smiles)That's okay. I didn't really want to fight anyway.
Pan runs up to the girls
PAN: Hey, Bubbles, are you okay?
BUBBLES: Yeah. I guess I shoulda used my superpowers after all, huh?
PAN: Superpowers? Of course (she snaps her fingers) you're one of the Powerpuff
Girls, I thought I recognized you.
As Pan is talking some people walk up behing her. One is a young woman with a
slight resemblance to Pan. This is VIDEL, Pan's mother. The second is a man with
spikey black hair that goes straight up. This is Pan's father, SON GOHAN. The
third is an older man who resembles Gohan. He has black spikey hair and is
wearing a blue tunic with orange pants. This is SON GOKU, Gohan's father and
Pan's other grandfather.
PAN(not noticing her family behind her): You're Superheroes just like my Mommy
and Daddy useta be!(Gohan and Videl blush) Let's see (she looks at Bubbles)
since you're Bubbles,(she looks at Blossom) you must be...Blossom?(Blossom nods)
That means that you're Buttercup, cool outfit.
BUTTERCUP: Yeah thanks, hey, how'd you do that disappearing thing.
GOKU(Pan looks up in surprise at her grandfather's voice): She didn't disappear.
She just moved too fast to track with just your eyes.
BUTTERCUP: Oh. Cool.
VIDEL: Come on, Pan. We have to clear the ring for the next fight.
PAN: 'Kay Mommy.(As she starts to leave she turns back) Wait. Blossom,
Buttercup, if one of you fights me, could you fight using your superpowers?
GOHAN: Pan, that could be dangerous.
PAN: But Daddy, I wanna see how strong I am.
GOKU(standing by Pan): And what better way than to test your skills against
superheroes.
BUTTERCUP: Sure, if you're strong enough to make me have to use my powers. I'd
love to see if which of us is strongest.
BLOSSOM: Well,(she looks to the Professor, who is holding Bubbles) I don't
know...
PROFESSOR: I'm not sure...but(he looks at Gohan and Videl) if you think Pan
could handle it, I suppose it would be okay.
PAN(Putting on best puppydog face): Please Daddy.
GOHAN(caving in): oh, OK.
VIDEL(reluctantly): If your father thinks it's alright. I guess so.
PAN & BUTTERCUP: Yessss!
BLOSSOM(to Buttercup): Why are you so happy?
BUTTERCUP: Pan's the Great Saiyaman's daughter. It's gonna be so great fighting
her.
BLOSSOM: Great Saiyaman?
GOHAN: A secret identity I assumed when I was in high school. Videl joined me as
Great Saiyaman 2 later on but my mother made us give it up when we got married.
Suddenly a voice off-camera is heard.
VOICE: Kakarot, you baka! Will you get those lousy brats out of the ring, my
fight's up next.
The camera now shows a man standing with his arms crossed and a scowl on his
face that would put Buttercup's to shame. He also has very spikey hair that
seems to defy gravity.
GOKU: All right, Vegeta.(to everyone else) Lets go before he gets really mad.
BUBBLES: If that's not it, I don't wanna see mad.
The Utonium and Son families leave the arena while VEGETA prepares for his
battle.
FADE TO: EXT. - MOUNTAIN IN SWISS ALPS - NIGHT
A shadowy figure is climbing the snow-covered mointain. It is holding a
stopwatch-like device in its hand. As it reaches a place where it can stand he
comes to a rock wall and starts digging in the snow covering it. When it
finishes an object is seen buried. It is a yellow ball with six red stars inside
it. The person has just found a DRAGON BALL. The radar device flashes and on one
flash the face of the figure is seen. It is MOJO JOJO. He begins to laugh
maniacally.
FADE OUT/FADE IN TO: INT. - BUDOUKAI ARENA - DAY
CUT TO:
Montage of Pan, Blossom, and Buttercup fighting several opponents. All three
girls are shown fighting opponents who are three times their size. Every girl
easily beats their opponents and move on the next ones. The Professor and
Bubbles are seen cheering Blossom and Buttercup. Pan is cheered by her family
and friends.
CUT TO:
EXT. OVERHEAD SHOT OF RING - DAY
Blossom enters the ring preparing to fight.
ANNOUNCER: In the north side of the ring. The American defender of justice,
Blossom Utonium. And in the south side, the farm boy, Ubuu.
UBUU enters the ring. He is ten years old and wears a blue sash and has his hair
in a mohawk.
ANNOUNCER: Battle, BEGIN!
Before the Announcer even finishes speaking Ubuu attacks Blossom.
CUT TO:
Close up of Blossom, moving her head and body back and forth trying to avoid
Ubuu's punches and kicks which move by her in a blur. Blossom finally lands a
kick in Ubuu's stomach. Ubuu reels back in pain but is not beaten. He extends
his hands and shoots a ki(energy) blast at Blossom. Blossom, knowing she can't
dodge it, blows her Ice Breath and freezes the energy in place. It stops just
short of hitting her. Ubuu is shocked, his hands are trapped inside the frozen
ki.
BLOSSOM: Whew, that was close.
UBUU(to himself): Now what. Oh, I know.
Ubuu hefts the frozen energy and shoves it foward. It hits Blossom in the face.
She's flying and lands outside of the ring.
ANNOUNCER: Ubuu is the winner!
The fighters watching the match cheer for the boy. Meanwhile, Goku is seen in
the crowd intently watching. He has been studying the fight, specifically Ubuu.
CUT TO:
Blossom is being helped up by Bubbles. Blossom has two black eyes and has a
small amount of blood coming from where her nose would be.
BUBBLES: BLOSSOM! BLOSSOM! Oh my gosh, are you OK.
Bubbles is crying because of her concern. Buttercup and the Professor are now
there and worried as well.
BUTTERCUP: Blossom are you ok?
In their worry they don't see Goku walk up behind them. When he is seen he
kneels down by Blossom.
GOKU: Here, honey. Eat this(Goku takes out a weird looking seed), it'll make you
feel better.
Blossom eats the seed. Almost immediately her black eyes are gone and the
bloodflow stops. She stands without any assistance.
BLOSSOM: Wow, I feel great. What was that?
GOKU: It's a senzu, it instantly heals any physical injury.
BLOSSOM: Thank you.
GOKU: Don't mention it. By the way, while I'm here(He looks at Buttercup).
Buttercup, right?(She nods) I thought you'd want to know. Your next fight is
with Pan. You'll get your chance to fight her. The winner goes into the final
rounds.
Buttercup has an ecstatic look on her face.
BUTTERCUP: All Right!
BLOSSOM: Wait a minute, I saw the roster. Pan and Buttercup weren't supposed to
fight.
GOKU(a guilty look on his face): Well, I had a friend change that.
He points to MR. BUU. A weird looking fat guy. He's all pink and has a
tendril-thing sticking out of his head. He's also wearing a blanket-like cape
and baggy pants.
BUTTERCUP(hugs Goku): THANK YOU!
GOKU: No problem, really. Pan was excited too. She can't wait to take you on.
Personally, I'd like to see what happens too.
PROFESSOR(kneeling by the excited Green Powerpuff): Okay, Buttercup, your fight
is tomorrow. You better go get some rest.
BUTTERCUP: Okay, Professor.
She flies off to the family's quarters the other Girls and the Professor right
behind her. Goku smiles at the girl and walks off.
CUT TO:
INT. - MOJO'S OBSERVITORY - NIGHT
Mojo is standing in front of six Dragon Balls
MOJO: Hahahaha, I have now found six of the seven Dragon Balls. Now I need only
one more, because there are seven, and I only have six, so that means there is
only one more. Because seven minus six is one. When I have all seven, the
Eternal Dragon will come and grant me any wish I desire. Using that wish I will
wish for World Domination, because that is what I have always desired. And
because I have always desired it, I will wish for it on the Dragon Balls. And I
will have it because the Dragon must grant my wish. And that wish will be for
World Domination for ME, Moooojo Jojo. Mwa, ha, ha, ha, ha!
NARRATOR: Oh, no. MojoJojo. If he gets the Dragon Balls the world is lost. Oh,
where are you girls. We might be needing you soon.
CUT TO:
INT. - BUDOUKAI ARENA - NEXT DAY
CUT TO:
Buttercup and Pan entering the ring on their respective sides. Professor Utonium
and the other two girls are in the sidelines cheering for Buttercup. Pan's
family and friends are on her side cheering her on.
ANNOUNCER: And now for the first Semi-Final round. In the north side of the
ring, from Townsville, U.S.A., Buttercup Utonium. And in the north side, the
granddaughter of our very own Mr. Satan. Son Pan.
The other competitors who are watching cheer for the two girls.
ANNOUNCER: The rules are the same as the previous rounds. You lose if you are
knocked down for a ten-count, knocked unconscious, touch any solid object
outside the ring, or for any reason kill your opponent.
Now, Battle, BEGIN!
PAN(to Buttercup): No holding back, right?
BUTTERCUP: Right.
Pan and Buttercup start, Buttercup launches a hard punch and Pan barely dodges
it. Pan lets loose a few high kicks but Buttercup dodges two and blocks one. The
Powerpuff counterattacks with a right-hook, uppercut combination catching the
quarter-Saiyan off guard. both hits connect and Pan hits the ground, but she
quickly jumps back up to her feet.
Pan attacks with a combination of punches and kicks. A close up of Buttercup is
seen as she avoids and parries each attack and sends in a few of her own.
Buttercup goes on the attack now as she attacks Pan, a close up of Pan like the
earlier one of Buttercup shows the girl in orange avoiding her share of blows.
The two girls hands and feet appear as blurs as they constantly keep up the
attack. Eventually, their entire bodies become blurs as they move across the
ring. As the fight ensues, orange and green bursts are seen. Within the bursts
are Pan and Buttercup seen only for an instant. Each time their poses are
different. In one Pan is landing a punch in Buttercup's gut. In another
Buttercup is landing a kick against Pan's ribs.
Eventually, the two girls take to the air. They continue fighting as the bursts
grow faster and more intense. Buttercup is slightly above Pan and holds out her
arms in preparation for the next attack. The Powerpuff's mitts glow green as she
prepares to shoot an energy blast at Pan. Pan sees the move and raises her hands
above her head, one palm behind the other.
BUTTERCUP: Eeyyaahh!
Two green beams shoot from Buttercup's arms
PAN: MaSenko blast!
Pan puts her hands in front of her and a yellow beam shoots from them.
The two beams collide and a large explosion rocks the arena. The other fighters
look up dumbstruck before the two flying, super strong, fireball shooting little
girls. The only ones not really surprised are the Z-Fighters and the Utoniums in
the sidelines. A giant cloud of smoke has formed where the two girls energy
blasts had made contact. An Orange streak of light flies out of it with a green
one not far behind.
Pan is being chased in the air by Buttercup who is trying to hit the girl with
her Eye Beams. Pan is juking and swerving to avoid being hit. They travel miles
before Buttercup stops shooting when Pan suddenly disappears.
BUTTERCUP(to herself): What? Where'd she go?
CUT TO:
a brief flashback of Pan's first match with Bubbles.
BACK TO:
Buttercup, who immediately dodges just as Pan is coming down set to send a fist
into her back. Pan misses and begins going toward the ground. She quickly stops
herself knowing she'll be disqualified if she touches the ground.
CUT TO:
A wide-angle camera shot of the girls, who are hovering over a beach.
CUT TO:
A close up pan of Buttercup's face then a pan of Pan's face. Both are wearing
mixed expressions of joy, determination, and respect. They are breathing heavily
from exhaustion.
BUTTERCUP: You're real good.
PAN: You too. I can't wait to see who wins.
BUTTERCUP: Me either. I wanna see who's strongest.
PAN: Then why're we talking.
The fight resumes.
CUT TO:
SKY OVER ARENA - DAY
An air car flies through the air. Inside piloting is BULMA. President of CAPSULE
CORPORATION, Vegeta's wife, and genius of the Z-Fighters. Inside the air car
with Bulma, are the Professor, Blossom, Bubbles, Gohan, and Videl.
BUBBLES(To herself): Buttercup, where are you? I hope you're not hurt.
BULMA: I'm impressed Professor, you created those girls and the one fighting
Pan.
PROFESSOR: Yes, I did, though giving them superpowers was an accident.
BULMA: How'd you make them?
BUBBLES: He mixed sugar, spice, and everything nice, then he accidentally put in
Chemical X because this monkey named Jojo...
BULMA(to herself, not listening to Bubbles): Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice,
that's cute Professor. He must have come up with that so the girls could
understand why they're different. But this chemical X stuff could be
interesting. I wonder if that's real. (aloud) Chemical X huh? what's that?
PROFESSOR: It's a chemical compund I created a long time ago. Actually, your
friend Goku is partly responsible for its creation.
GOHAN: What?! How's that possible.
PROFESSOR: 25 years ago, I was a physician at the Tenkaichi Budoukai where your
father fought Piccolo. I was very young then and was hoping to find some sort of
cure-all medicine that could stop any diesease. I hoped maybe I could use the
DNA from the fighters in the Budoukai to create that medicine, since they were
all so physically strong. After the fight with Piccolo when everyone left, I got
samples of Goku's dried blood from the rubble of the stadium. I studied it and
found it had properties unlike anything I'd ever seen.
GOHAN: That's not surprising, he's a Saiyan.
BLOSSOM: What's a Saiyan?
GOHAN: An alien being with natural fighting powers. My father's one, and so is
Vegeta. Because of that, myself, my brother Goten, and Vegeta's children, Trunks
and Bra, are all half-Human, half-Saiyan. And Pan is one quarter Saiyan, three
quarters Human.
BLOSSOM: I never knew that....wait a second. Does anyone realize what this
means?
BULMA: If Chemical X is made from Saiyan DNA...then you and your sisters are all
part Saiyan.
BUBBLES: Is that good, or bad?
VIDEL: No telling really, but if Pan thought she would win because she was a
Saiyan she might be in for a lot more than she bargained for.
Wide angle shot of air car soaring through the air to find Buttercup and Pan.
CUT TO:
EXT. - OUTSKIRTS OF TOWNSVILLE - DAY
Mojo Jojo stands with all seven Dragon Balls before him.
MOJO: Finally, I have all seven Dragon Balls, now I must call the Eternal
Dragon. For without the Dragon, my wish will not come true, and my wish is world
domination, and I will not get that without the Dragon, and the Dragon must come
because I have all the Dragon Balls which call the Dragon to grant wishes. Come
out Shenlon! And grant my wish!
As Mojo is talking the Dragon Balls glow and the sky begins to turn black.
Lightning flashes and the Dragon Balls glow even brighter. Finally a stream of
yellow light shoots into the black sky and it coalesces in the form of the mile
long ETERNAL DRAGON SHENLON.
SHENLON: I AM THE ETERNAL DRAGON, I WILL GRANT YOU THREE WISHES FOR SUMMONING
ME. NOW, MAKE YOUR WISHES.
MOJO: Three wishes? I had only expected one, because the Dragon Ball legends
only say one wish. But now I have three. What am I to do with three wishes, I
had prepared only for one. And because I have only prepared for one I will have
two more wishes that I will not know what to do with because I had only thought
of one wish...
SHENLON: MAKE YOUR WISHES NOW AND THEY WILL BE GRANTED.
MOJO: Okay, Okay, I wish for WORLD DOMINATION.
SHENLON: THAT WISH CAN NOT BE GRANTED.
MOJO: WHAT! Why can you not grant my wish. You are supposed to grant any wish.
So, when I ask for domination I am supposed to get it. Because you are to...
SHENLON(interrupting): FIVE YEARS AGO A WISH WAS MADE THAT I NO LONGER GRANT
WISHES FOR WORLD DOMINATION OR IMMORTALITY. BECAUSE OF THIS YOUR WISH CAN NOT BE
GRANTED.
MOJO: Cuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrssssssseeeesssssssss. Now what do I do? I cannot wish
for world domination because a previous wish prevents the Dragon from doing so.
And because that wish I cannot have my world conquest.(He suddenly gets an
evil[er] look in his eyes) Yessssss...that might work...
CUT TO:
EXT. - OVER BEACH - DAY
Pan and Buttercup are still fighting it out. Neither one giving the other any
time to do anything big. Both girls have been fighting for quite some time. They
are bruised, bloody, and their clothing is torn up. They are breathing very
heavily.
BUTTERCUP(to herself): She's too much. If I gotta lose, at least it's to her and
not some big stuck-up jerk like that Vegeta guy.
PAN(to herself): This is too fun. She might actually win. I've never fought
anyone this strong before other than Daddy and his friends. I hope Daddy'll let
me fight her again after this is over.
Buttercup and Pan launch into another round of attacks. It's not quite as fast
as before because both girls are getting tired but it's still pretty quick. More
punches and kicks land but the girls are completely even and show no signs of
giving up. The girls finally
