Trajan's Markets
When you gain control of Lara, go immediately left and into the room. You will see a wheelbarrow and a small red box with a sign on it. Shoot the small red box with your pistols, and collect the crowbar. Now, turn around, and run out of this room. Go straight across and into the room on the right. You'll see the red box, metal crates, shovels, and a wheelbarrow. Shoot the red box, and get the LaserSight. Leave this room, turn right, and go all the way to the metal door at the end. Press action at the door, and you will use the crowbar to open it. Go inside, and you'll see yet another red box. Crouch down, equip your pistols, and shoot the box. You will get a Small Medipack. To the right of the room are some metal platforms. Vault onto the first one. Run forward, and to the right, climb up onto the platform. Then, you'll see a box with a tightrope on it. Climb up, but don't walk the tightrope yet. There is a window with a Small Medipack. Jump to the window, and get the Small Medipack. Jump back to the box, and walk the tightrope by pressing action. Walk forward without letting go of action. It's pretty dark, but you can still see Lara's outline. If you fall off by accident, you'll fall into one of the previous rooms, so just make your way back to the metal door, and try again. Once you've made it to the other side, jump the gap to the right. Run forward, and climb up. Run across the bridge, and at the end, you'll see a locked gate. You can't get through, so turn right, and jump. Jump again to the platform ahead. Across the gap, you'll see shotgun ammo. Run, jump, and grab the ledge. Climb up, and get the shotgun ammo. Jump back to the previous ledge, and drop down. Jump to the next platform, and a cutscene will show some gears.
Once the cutscene has finished, drop down, and you'll see a trapdoor. The trapdoor cannot be opened so run out, and you'll be in a large room with several archways. Run to the second to last archway, and go to the left side. You'll see a climbable wall. Jump up, grab, and begin to climb up. Once at the top, shimmy left, and do a backflip. You are now on top of the archway. Look right and left, and you'll see more archways to jump to. Go right first. Jump to the right, and after that, do a diagonal jump to the left. Run into the room, and you'll see a pole that you must pull. Pull it three times, and you will see a cutscene three times that shows the gear being raised. Once that's done, make your way back to the first archway. Start jumping left. There is a large gap between this archway and the next one, so do a running jump. Then jump into the room. You'll see another pole. Pull it once. Pulling this pole activates many devices. First the gears are activated. Then a large circular door moves aside, and it reveals a statue. In addition, the trapdoor that we saw a while ago is now open. You are done up here.
Go back to the trapdoor. Jump down, and collect wide shotgun ammo and a Secret. Climb out of the trapdoor, and go through the middle door on the left. Run through, and you'll see that this is where the large circular door opened. Run up right in front of the statue, and collect the revolver ammo and Small Medipack to the right and left. Now, leave this room, and stand right where the circular door used to be. Look left, and you can see that the circular door is there. Now, go to the right. Climb up the first platform, and climb up the next. Turn right, and you'll see a room. Drop down to the room, and go up to the gate. Press action to remove the Golden Coin with the crowbar. Get out quickly since the mice are back. Climb out of the room, and drop down. Run back to the statue, and place the Golden Coin in the space. Placing the Golden Coin activates a door to open. Now, turn around, and run all the way out of this room. Run past the circular door and out. Go through the door that is right ahead. You can see that you're back at the beginning of the level.
Turn left, and go through the entrance. This is where the door opened. Run straight past the building and to the right. Look left, and you'll see a large pool. Dive in, and swim left. There is a gate here, and collect the Small Medpack in front of it. Now, swim out of the pool at the opposite end. Run a little, and a cutscene will show a large metal octopus that has just awaken. Collect the revolver ammo. Combine the revolver with the LaserSight, and straight ahead of you is an opening. Do not stand right in front of it. The metal octopus is there. This is a very dangerous enemy. The metal octopus has green eyes that shoot lasers at Lara if it detects her standing in front of the opening. If Lara gets hit with these lasers, she dies instantly. Fortunately, if Lara is behind the wall, she is safe. Now, what you have to do is face the wall, and sidestep slowly. Stop when Lara's just halfway into the opening. Now, this is not easy. One problem is that when Lara sidesteps, her steps are too big, and it is very common to get Lara entirely in the opening or not in it at all. After you have successfully placed Lara halfway in the opening, take a few steps back so that Lara has some distance between her and the wall. Notice that even though Lara is partially in front of the opening, the metal head doesn't detect her because her entire body is not completely in the opening. Equip the revolver, aim with the LaserSight, and shoot the metal octopus in the eyes. It is important that you have some distance from the wall because if you are right in front of it, it will be very hard to get the metal octopus' head in the target range. Doing this is very difficult. It is possible to defeat the metal octopus, but it takes some practice. Keep working at it, and you will do it.
Once you have defeated the metal octopus, run out into the opening, and jump down. Right where the metal octopus used to be is the Mars symbol. Collect it. Run forward, and go down a ramp into a room with a red electric generator. On both sides of the ramp, there are short blocks. Step on one of the blocks. Look above you, there is some metal grating up above. Stand at the front edge of the short block, jump, and grab the metal grating. Climb up, and you can see that there is a Secret on top of the red electric generator. Jump on top of the generator, grab the secret, and drop back down. Turn around, and leave the room. Run all the way to the other side of the room where the metal octopus used to be, and get the revolver ammo. There is a trap door. Stand at the edge where the brown rectangular box is, press action, and Lara will lift it up. Drop down backwards, press action, and climb down into the sewers. Follow the path, and pretty soon, you'll come to the sewer water. You'll see some water surrounded strips of land on both sides of it. Dive in, and there will be a Small Medipack to collect at the bottom. After you have obtained the medipack, go to the large hole in the middle. There is a fan at the bottom, and a passageway near the top of the hole. Swim through the passageway, surface, and you'll see a lit torch, normal shotgun ammo, and a Valve Wheel on the other wall. Get the Valve Wheel and the normal shotgun ammo. Dive back into the water, and follow the passageway back. Once out of here, swim back to the starting point. Climb out of the water, run forward, and climb up the ladder. You are back in the room where the metal octopus used to be. Run across to the room with the red electric generator, and place the Valve Wheel on it. Make sure that you press action after you've put it on so that you can turn it. Now, run back to the trapdoor. Climb down the ladder, follow the path, and jump back into the water. Swim to the middle hole with the fan, and swim farther down to the bottom. Near the bottom, there is another passageway. Swim through it, and follow the path. You will soon enter an underwater room. Go immediately left, and surface to get a breath of air. Now, submerge under water, and continue swimming through the underwater room. You will sooon see two large fans that are pumping water. At the other side of the two fans is an entrance that you must swim through. However, it's not that easy. You can't get past the fans since the current is too strong. Swim to the wall opposite the fans. Swim up, and you'll enter another room with a red generator and valve wheel. Turn the Valve Wheel on the generator, and dive back into the water. The fans have been turned off, and now you can swim through the entrance on the other side of the fans. Follow the path, surface, and climb out.
You are now back on land. Run forward, and the door will close behind you. Get the normal shotgun ammo and the shotgun. Now, equip your shotgun, and walk forward. A cutscene will show a giant metal knight that has awakened. He shoots energy balls that can set Lara ablaze. He also wields a huge sword, and it will deplete Lara's health a considerable amount if he hits you with it. Fortunately, the giant metal knight is very slow. Once the cutscene ends, immediately start shooting. The best strategy to use is to jump side to side while firing at him. Lara has excellent aim, so she can still hit him when she's jumping around. I strongly recommend the shotgun. The other weapons that you have include the pistols and the revolver. Those weapons are too weak to kill the giant metal knight, and you will have to use up tons of ammo. The shotgun will be perfect.
Once you have defeated him, a cutscene will show a large window breaking and an underwater gate opening. Climb up the ledge that is just below the large window, and collect some uzi ammo and a Small Medipack. Jump out the window, and you have landed just in front of the large pool. Now that you have defeated the giant metal knight, it's time for some rewards. Run right, around the building, and collect the revolver ammo. In addition to the revolver ammo, a door that was previously closed is now open. It contains a Secret. Turn around, and run all the way around the building to the front. Run through the gate, and immediately turn left. Go all the way to the back wall, and you'll see the open door there. Go in, and colect the secret. Once you have taken that, go back to the water. Dive in, and swim through the entrance in the water. Take the Venus symbol. Follow the underwater passage until you can surface. Climb out of the water, and you are back to the building with the snake heads.
A cutscene ensues, and Larson is back. When the cutscene ends, shoot Larson with any weapon available. You don't have to use the shotgun since Larson is a fairly easy enemy to beat. Just jump side to side while shooting, and pretty soon Larson will fall down. Another cutscene starts. Larson is standing with his back to the snake heads, and the snake heads magically come alive. Their heads begin to elongate and grab Larson. Lara is trying to warn him, but he thinks it's a trick. The snakes grasp Larson and hurl him across the field. The snake heads are an extremely formidable opponent. They shoot fireballs at you that can set Lara on fire. I used a cheat code where I had infinite shotgun ammo, and I must have used up 120 shots to kill them. Go to the cheats section for the code. If you do not want to use the cheat code, then I recommend using the pistols since they are infinite in ammo. However, if you use your pistols, you'll probably be jumping and firing at the snake heads for five minutes before they die. When shooting at the snake heads, make sure that you continuously jump side to side in order to avoid their fire. If you get hit with a fireball, run to the pool where you just came out of to extinguish the flame. However, you can lose a lot of health, and it is better to avoid being set on fire in the first place. Fortunately, there are lots of items to collect here. By the gate, there is wide and normal shotgun ammo, and behind the building with the snake heads is a Large Medipack. You'll hear a lot of metal clanking noises when each snake head dies. Once you've defeated them, go up to the entrance, and place the Mars and Venus symbols in their proper places. You don't have to know where to put each symbol. Just walk up to one symbol, press action, and the selection screen will come up highlighting the item needed. The door will explode leaving a shimmering light by the doorway. You can see the Philosopher's Stone on the other end of the room. Jump from platform to platform. Once you get to the platform with the Philosopher's Stone, the platform drops down, and Lara falls down a ramp. The Philosopher's Stone cannot be obtained now. You have to get it later. |
