Level 3

The Coliseum

You begin this level by sliding down the long ramp. Once you are finished sliding, run forward, and follow the path. You will enter a small room first, but there is nothing to do here. Run forward, and in the second area with the skeletons, look on the right wall. You are looking for a block with a ring at the center. Go to that block, and hold down action. Push the block forward as far as it will go, and you enter a room with a Secret. Get the Secret and leave the room. Keep following the path through the cave until you arrive at a narrow passage between two buildings. A cutscene will show the floor tiles beginning to fall. Run quickly, and jump to the end of the hallway. Now the corridor has filled with lava. Press back, and you will fall off the ledge. Quickly press action, and begin to shimmy left. Keep shimmying left until you get to a small crawlspace. Climb up, and crawl through. When you reach the end, press jump, and Lara will somersault out. The drop isn't big, so you won't lose energy. Look for a gray square button to activate at the right side of the room. Walk up to the button, press action, and Lara will activate it. Now, climb up into the crawl space, and go back. When you reach the end of the crawl space, turn around with Lara's feet facing the ledge, and crawl backwards. Hold action and Lara will grab onto the ledge. Shimmy right, and climb up.

Now, you're in a room with floor grates. Run to the right, and go through the entrance. You'll see a hole in the floor. Drop through the hole. Slide down some ramps, and when you land, quickly equip a weapon. A lion will attack you. A shotgun will take only a couple of shots to kill it, but if you're low in that, then just use your pistols while jumping around. Once the lion is dead, press the gray square button in the room, and a gate opens. Quickly turn around, equip a weapon, and shoot the lion that is running towards you. Go through the room that the lion came out of, and you'll see more skeletons. Climb up the ladder. Once at the top, turn around, and look for the first Gemstone Piece on top of the pedestal. Get it. Turn around, and leave the room through the entrance. Once you're in here, you'll here some warning music. A gladiator is charging at you from the left. He is coming out of an opening. Equip your weapon, and shoot him. He's fast and carries a sword. Once you've killed him, run through the opening that he came out of, and get the Small Medipack. Turn around, and run out. Run to the left, up the stairs, and a gladiator will run at you from the left. Shoot him. Go into the room that the gladiator came out of, and pick up the uzi ammo. Don't forget to push the button. Turn around, and run straight up the stairs. You'll see a large hall in front and stairs up the right. The stairs are barely visible since it's dark. Don't go into the large hall yet. Run up the stairs. Get ready because a lion and a gladiator will attack. Shoot both of them. Go through the entrance that they came out of. Run forward and then left through the entrance. Pick up the uzi and the Large Medipack in the room. Turn around, and leave the room by running to the right. Go out the entrance, and go down the stairs. Turn right into the large hall.

This large hall is part of a timed sequence. Stand at the entrance, and look around. In front of you is a center circular platform with a closed door at the other end. So, run out, and look to your right and left. There are platforms there, too. In the center of this circular platform is a pedestal with the second Gemstone Piece. However, you can't collect this because it is underground. The object of this timed sequence is to raise the pedestal up so that you can get it. Run, and jump to the left platform. In front of you is a pole. Pull it three times. Now, go down the stairs. The stairs should be to your left. Now, dash forward quickly, and pretty soon, you'll stop right in front of a wall. Jump up, grab it, and climb up. Now, run forward, and do a running jump and grab to the next platform. Turn left, and run forward. Turn left again, and run and jump back to the center platform. Grab the second Gemstone Piece. If you don't get the second Gemstone Piece in time, a cutscene will show the pedestal going back down. You will have to repeat the process over again. Once you have both pieces, combine them both to get the Gemstone.

Now, run towards the closed door at the end of the circular platform. The door will open by itself. You will fall down a trapdoor. A cutscene will play. Lara is tumbling down cliffs and finally dangles off of a cliff. Pierre comes up to her with his guns ready and asks Lara to give him the Gemstone. Lara says that if he helps her to climb up, then she will give him the piece. Pierre helps her up but also makes her promise not to lay a finger on him. Lara lives up to her promise. However, Lara does not give him the Gemstone. Instead, she yells "Boo!" in his face, and he falls off of the cliff.

The cutscene is over. Look to your left, and there are some stairs leading up. Look to your right, and go this way. Jump over the slanted slope to the other side. If you don't make the jump, don't worry. You will slide down, but quickly hold action to grab the ledge. Now, shimmy right, and climb up. Continue forward, and jump up the ledge. You are back in the room with the timed sequence. Run up the stairs and under the archway. Now, you are back at the stairs that you used during the timed sequence. Step up onto the stairs, and run left. Keep running until you get to a wall. Jump up, and run. Jump to the next platform. Then, turn left twice, and jump to the center platform. This was the same timed sequence you did before. Now, run through the closed door again, but this time, jump over the trapdoor. Run into the room, and collect the secret on top of the pedestal. Now, you must go back to the pit where the cutscene took place with Pierre. Jump over the trapdoor, and go back to the center circular platform. Jump to the right platform to where the pole was. Now, go down the stairs, but once you are halfway down, turn left. Run under the archway, down the stairs, and you are back. Jump over the slanted slope, and run up the stairs into the room.

Now, you must use the Gemstone. Once you are in the room, the door closes behind you. This is a very dangerous area. Walk up to the symbol in the wall, press action, and place the Gemstone inside. Once you have done that, a cutscene will take place. The Gemstone rotates in the wall, and the floor tiles begin to fall down into the lava below. The camera will show an aerial view. Once you gain control of Lara, perform a quick roll. Run and jump to the floor tile on the other side of the room. You're safe here. All the other tiles fall down. Now, turn around, and do a running jump into the small area underneath the Gemstone in the wall. Now, drop of the ledge backwards, and hold action to grab on. Shimmy all the way to the left, and drop down when you can't go any farther. Now, turn around, and run through the entrance on your right. You'll enter a room with a short block. Step up onto the short block, and jump up. Grab the ledge, and climb up. Immediately equip your weapons because a gladiator and lion will attack. Kill them both, and collect the Coliseum Key 1 that the gladiator left behind when you killed him.

You are back outdoors and are on top of a balcony. Run to the other side of the balcony where there's a large double door. To the left is a keyhole. Use the Coliseum Key 1 there. Once the door opens, a cutscene will show a giant metal knight awakening. Quickly equip a weapon, and begin shooting. Don't get near him, or else he'll hit you with his sword. Keep dodging the energy balls he shoots at you, and once he's defeated, a door will open. You'll know where it is since it makes a large sound. Run to the door, and climb up into it. Run to the left, and get the Coliseum Key 2 off of the pedestal. Leave this room, and go back to the room where you killed the giant metal knight. In this room is another large double door. Use the Coliseum Key 2 on the keyhole on the right. The door will open. Jump in, and you'll slide down some ramps. You will land right next to the Philosopher's Stone. However, don't get the Philosopher's Stone yet. There is still one more secret. Jump across all the platforms, and at the end, crouch into the crawl space. Crawl through, and get the Secret. Now, crawl back out, and jump back across the platforms to the Philosopher's Stone. Use your crowbar to get it, and after that, the story ends. Now, you can move on to the next story.
