Streets of Rome

After the cutscene is over, you are faced with two options. You can either go to the Opera Backstage and go through a training area, or you can begin the adventure. If you are new to the Tomb Raider series and are familiar with the controls, then I suggest you skip the Opera Backstage. However, I think that the Opera Backstage is beneficial since you can collect ammunition and medipacks there.

If you choose to go to the Opera Backstage, then run forward a little bit and turn left. If you don't want to do the training session, just skip this paragraph. Once inside, go to a brown crate, and press action. Lara will climb up onto the crate. This training area is very easy since Lara actually guides you through it and tells you what to do. So, once you are on top of the crate turn left, and step up onto a metal crate. Turn left, and climb up. Walk forward a bit, and Lara will tell you to press jump and forward to leap the short distance. Follow the path, and you are faced with a greater gap. So, walk up to the edge, and tap back. Run and jump. You will land on the other side. Then turn right, and you are faced with an even larger gap. Walk to the edge, and tap back. Run forward, jump, and while in midair, press action. You will grab onto the ledge. Press up, and you will climb up. Follow the path, and soon, Lara will tell you to do a sideways somersault. Follow the path, and Lara will tell you to jump and grab the monkey bars. Press forward, and don't let go of action. Once you have made it to the other side, let go of action. Move to the right, and stand in front of the climbable wall. Press and hold action. Lara will climb up the wall. Once at the top, hold right, and you will shimmy to the right. Let go of action. Now, you'll see a crawlspace to your right, but don't go through it yet. Instead, turn left, and walk onto the yellow platform. Do a diagonal standing jump onto the top of the monkey bars. Then, run forward, and get the flares on top of the bars and the Large Medipack inside the crawlspace at the end. After getting the Large Medipack, crawl out backwards, and stand up. Turn to the right, and jump to the small metal platform. Get the Small Medipack on it. Now, turn around, and jump back to the area on top of the monkey bars. Turn left, and run back. Perform a diagonal standing jump back to the yellow platform. Now, you have to crouch and crawl through the a small crawl space. Go through, and turn left. Go up to the ledge, and press the jump button. Lara will perform a forward somersault onto the ground below. Then, turn around, walk forward, and use the lever. The door will open. Run through, and turn right. Lara will go down the stairs. Run all the way to the back of the room, and turn left. You will see some crates that Lara has to climb up. So, clumb up the metal box, and after that, jump and hold action to climb up the wall. Now, there is a swimming pool. Fall into the water, and swim through an underwater passage. Follow the path until you reach another swimming pool. Surface to get a breath of air. Then, swim underwater again, and you will see a hole in the floor. Go through it, and follow the path. When the path ends, go up, climb out, and collect revolver ammo, shotgun ammo, and a Large Medipack. After that, fall back into the water, and make your way back to the pool. Go to the exit, and Lara will tell you to use action to get out. Follow the path, turn left, and here's a new obstacle- the tightrope. This is a really cool obstacle, but don't go across it yet. Drop down to the floor below, run into the room ahead, and you'll see boxes and lots of shelves. Check all of them. Some of the shelves can be pushed, so do that. Collect all the items and ammo you find in them, and also, you can get your first Secret. Now, go back to the tightrope, if you wish. Walk up to the tightrope, press action, and then forward. Lara will begin to walk over the rope. Occasionally, you will unbalance. To correct your position, tap in the opposite direction. Once you've made it to the other side, go into the next room. You will see some shelves. Go to the shelf at the back of the room, and press action. Lara will get a small medpack. After that, go through the corridor, press the lever, and you are back to the beginning of the training area. Leave the same way you came in, and now, you are back to the beginning of the level.

Run forward, and you will see an entrance in front of you, to the right, and to the left. Go to the right. Equip your guns because a dog will attack you. You will see a fountain and some buildings. The dog will run at you from behind the fountain. Shoot it before it gets to you. If the dog gets near you, jump around so that it doesn't hurt you. Once the dog is dead, jump on top of the fountain. You will see a building with a canopy on top of it. Run, jump, and hold action. You will hold on to the canopy. Press up, and you will be on the roof. Go to the left, and collect the flares. Jump off of the roof. Go behind the building, and you will find a stone lion. Press action, and Lara will pull a switch inside its mouth. You will see that a gate will be opened, and it will reveal another stone lion. Now, go back to the building, and turn left. Follow the path, and turn right. You will see an entrance with some vines hanging over it. Go through, pull the handle in the stone lion's mouth, and bats will attack you. Get out of there quickly, and climb up the block that was released when you pulled the switch in the lion's mouth. Climb up the block and onto the balcony. Before entering the house, run to the right of the balcony and face the ledge. Perform a diagonal standing jump to the cement ledge to the left. Pick up the Small Medipack. Then, turn around, and jump back to the balcony. Follow the path into the house. You will enter a room with some chairs and a table. There is nothing to collect here, so turn left. Keep following the path until you fall down. There is a window in front of you. Shoot it out, and get the revolver ammo. Then, follow the hall, and you'll see two windows. Shoot out both of the, and get the Small Medipack from one of them. Now, go down the stairs, and a dog will attack you from the left. Kill it, and go where the dog came from. Follow the path, and pull the switch. The door will open next to you. Don't go through it. Instead, go back to where the dog attacked you. There are two doors here, and one cannot be opened. Open the double doors, and a dog will attack you. Kill it, go inside, and collect the Large Medipack. Then, climb up the brown box, and get the wide shotgun ammo. Go back to the hall with windows, and go into the first window on the right. Jump to the other side. Follow the path, and to the left is the Golden Key 1. Get it.

Now that you have the key, go back, and drop down. Equip your gun, and follow the path back to the fountain. A dog will attack you, so kill it. Then, run to the closed gate with the keyhole. Use the Golden Key 1 to open it. Then, equip your gun, and run inside. Larson will begin to shoot you from a balcony. Once inside, Lara will aim up high and to the left. Begin shooting. Jump around to avoid his shoots, and pretty soon, he will run away. Then, turn around, and run into the alcove at the right of the doorway. It's dark, so you may need to use a flare. Pick up the Small Medipack, and then, run into the entrance under the balcony where Larson was. You will find a left and right entrance. Go left, down the stairs, and climb up onto the box. You will get the Garden Key. Now go back to the right entrance, and follow the path up. Equip your gun, and Larson will begin to shoot you from the other balcony. Once he has run away, then go up on the balcony. Press action to walk the tightrope. If you unbalance, tap in the opposite direction. Once you have made it across, run forward, and drop down. Pull the lever, and the gate will open next to you. Don't go through the gate. It is just a more direct way back to the fountain. Instead, turn around, run forward, and then to the left. You will enter a room with a blue door and an entrance to the right. The blue door cannot be opened, so go to the right. Run forward, and stop. You will enter a long hallway and an entrance to the left. Go left, and you will enter a room with revolver ammo on the floor and a closed brown door in front of it. Get the revolver ammo. Then, go out of the room, and continue your way all the way up the hallway. At the top of the stairs, there is the revolver. Get it, and turn around. Go up a short ramp to a brown door. This door can be opened. Press action, and Lara will open it. You will see a small room with lots of barrels and a closed door at the back. Turn immediately left, and to the left of the first barrel is the LaserSight. Combine the LaserSight with the revolver, and go to the door at the back of the room. Aim at the lock on the door using the LaserSight, and shoot it. The door will open. Go in quickly, and get the second Garden Key. Get out quickly because mice will attack you. Now, run down the hallway, turn left, and run all the way to the back of the street. While running to the back of the street, you will notice a closed gate to your left. This gate will be opened by using the two Garden Keys. Keep on running to the back, and turn left at the entrance. Walk up to the right side of the gate, and use the first Garden Key at the symbol. Then, run to the left, and use the second Garden Key at the symbol. You have now opened the gate.

Go out of the entrance, and run to the gate that is now open. You will see a large clearing with a building to your left. Go up to the building with the snake heads at the entrance. A cutscene will take place. Lara hears a sound and equips her guns. Larson and Pierre are on the top of an orange-tiled roof. Larson tries to shoot Lara, but then Pierre stops him. Pierre tells them to wait until Lara has collected all the symbols. Then, they can kill her. So, the two of them leave, and you will gain control of Lara. Run forward, and turn left. Ignore the entrance to your right. Then, run to the back of the building, and turn right. Go up the hallway, and pretty soon, another cutscene will occur. The cutscene will show a bell on top of a tall building. Once you gain control of Lara, follow the path up, and you will see a huge building with the bell at the top. Run up the stairs, and at the top, you will get another LaserSight. Pick it up. Then, run forward, and there are some revolver bullets behind a column to the right of the door. Then, run back out to the stairs. Turn around so that you're facing the building. Keep stepping back until you can't go any farther. You will be standing at the top of the stairs, and there is a long way to fall behind you, so don't back up any farther. Then, equip your revolver, and aim at the bell. Shoot it. The bell will ring.

Once that is done, run back to the room where you found the revolver ammo. This is way back at the other side of the street, so run down the stairs, through the hallway, to the front of the building with the snake heads, and back down the street. Go back to the room where you received the revolver ammo. You will now see that the brown door that was closed before is now open. Equip a weapon, and walk up to the door. A dog will jump at you suddenly from the right. Kill it, and go inside the room. You'll see two shelves. Search both of them by going up to them and pressing action. You will receive a Secret and a Large Medipack. Now, run all the way back to the building with the bell. It's a very long way. Once you are at the building with the bell again, do not go all the way up the stairs. Instead, at the very bottom of the stairs is a ledge where you can jump up to. When facing the building with the ball, the stone wall is to the leftl. Face the wall, and jump up. Grab the ledge, and climb up. Keep running along the wall until you see an orange-tiled roof to your right. This is where Larson and Pierre were standing in the cutscene. Back up a bit, and take a running jump onto the tiled roof. Once there, follow the tiled roof until you see an alcove. Take a running jump inside. Inside this dark room is a Large Medipack and revolver bullets. (These items were spotted by Bookwyrm Pendraconis, a person who e-mailed me.) Collect them both, and take a running jump back to the tiled roof. Run back, and take a running jump onto the stone wall. You can see the building in front of you. Turn so that your back faces the building, and jump down. Then, quickly press action to grab onto the ledge. Then, perform a safety drop to the ground. Turn around, and run to the left. Run up the stairs, and to the left, is an opening. Go into the opening, and do a running jump to the other side. Run inside, pull the handle in the mouth, and get out quickly because bats will attack. Run back to the building with the bell, and you will see that the door at the top of building is now open. Go through it.

In this new room, you will see two blackbirds sitting on top of podiums. There are also two entrances to the right and left. Go to the left, and flip the switch. A cutscene will show that the blackbird on the left has exploded and transformed into a white dove. Go to the white dove, and press action. This will turn the white dove around. Now, go to the right entrance. Follow the path up, and you will see a huge stone ram that is swinging back and forth. This is very dangerous because you don't want the ram to hit Lara. So, walk slowly forward, and face the wall. Hop back, and Lara will fall off the ledge. Quickly press action to grab on. Now, don't let go of action. Press right, and Lara will shimmy to the right. Keep shimmying right and around corners, until you can't shimmy anymore. Now, press up, and Lara will climb up. Then, turn flip the switch, and go back to the floor. You will see that the second blackbird has turned into a white dove. Go up to it, press action, and Lara will turn the white dove. Now, you are done here.

Go back outside, and turn right. Remember the place where you had to pull the switch in the stone lion's mouth? Well, go back there again. Jump over the gap, and go into the room with the stone lion. You can get the third Secret and also a Large Medipack. Now, hop back over the gap, go down the stairs, and go to the bottom center of the building. Go into the entrance, and pick up the Saturn Symbol. Now, you have finished this level. A cutscene will ensue where Lara is back at the building with the snake heads, and Larson and Pierre have caught her. Larson tries to search her, but she knees him. They end up taking the stone from her, and Larson places it at a symbol at the entrance. Nothing happens for a while, but then, there is an explosion. Larson is set on fire, and Lara escapes.
