Gallows Tree
In this story, Lara appears as a young teenager. We saw Lara as a teenager in the beginning levels of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. Lara does not have flares, binoculars, or any weapons, so this level is more of an adventure. Lara must also evade enemies instead of shooting them. The enemies here are less dangerous. They include bats, rats, and small white people with knives. You begin this level at sunset, and you are on a cliff. Theres a hole around here, but dont drop down here. Just run forward, and youll reach a valley. Do a running jump to the gray rocks on the right. Dont hold action since Lara can make the jump. On this gray rock, run to the wall. Jump up, and grab the wall. Now, you can shimmy to the left. Shimmy around the corner, and drop down. You are now on another gray rock. You will begin to slide down. To your right, you can see a slanted gray rock. Jump to it, and youll begin to slide down. Immediately hold action to grab on. Drop down, and youll fall onto a rock below. To your right is a small cave. Do a standing jump inside, and bats will attack you. Run farther inside, and you can collect a Large Medipack and a Secret. Now, run back outside, and drop down to the valley floor. You cant jump back, so you have to fall. Once on the valley floor, look around for a gray platform. You can climb up here, and climb up into the cave. Run forward, and when you get to a wall, turn left, and jump up. Run forward, and climb up the wall in front of you. Run forward, and you can see that light is coming down from the hole in the ceiling. Jump up, and youre back to where you started.
Run back to the large valley, and do a running jump to the gray ledge again. Jump up, and grab. Shimmy left and around the corner. Drop down, and you will slide down onto another gray ledge. Turn right, and youll see the same slanted gray ledge. Jump to it, and youll slide down. Quickly grab hold of action, except dont let go. Shimmy right and around the corner. Once at the end, stop. Let go of action for a second so that youll let go. After that, immediately hold action again, and youll grab onto a lower ledge. Climb inside the crawl space, and make your way through. After youre out of the crawl space, run right, and step up the small gray block. From here, jump up, and grab the monkey bars. They dont look like monkey bars, but you can still swing across. Once on the other side, run forward a bit. Youll find that you can slide down a ramp to the left or go to the right. Go right first, and collect the Large Medipack. Now, you can slide down the ramp and out of the building. Run forward, and a cutscene will take place.
You can see a demon hanging from a tree. There is a fire below it. In addition, there is a well to the right of the tree. The demon talks to Lara, and in the end, he asks her to retrieve his heart. His heart was stolen from him. When the cutscene finishes, run back to the house you came out of, and you can see that there are beams on the left and right side of the house. Go to the left beam. Jump up onto the house, and when Lara climbs up, she will start to slide. Immediately, press jump, and Lara will jump onto a higher platform. There is a Secret here, so get it, and drop back down. Now, dont run to the back of the well because if you do, you will awaken the small white person. They dont do much damage, but they are annoying. Youll know if you awakened it if you hear some strange music. Run to the fire, and from there, run right. Run to the right of the well, and keep your distance from it. Run up to the wall, and you can see that there is a crawl space. Dont go in yet. Just jump up, and grab the monkey bars. Swing to the left until you cant swing anymore. Bats will attack you, but you cant do anything. Just keep swinging until you drop down. Run forward a bit until you bump into a wall. Now, jump up, and climb up. You can see that the well is below you, and there is water inside the wall.
Do a standing jump into the well, and swim to the bottom and then forward. In here, there are some dead ends, but if you get into them, just swim out. This path is very easy to follow. Youll get to a junction. Turn right, and then, youll get to another junction. Turn right again. Swim forward, and youll find a hole at the top. Ignore this. Its a dead end. Instead, turn left, and follow the path. Now, youll get to a wall. Swim up, and ignore the passage in the middle. Climb out, and youll see that you are on a pier. There is a door, but it is closed. You can see that there is also a second pool that is separated by a wall. Dont jump into it yet. Instead, look at the slanted slope that is on the other side of this pool. Perform a running jump, and youll land on the slanted slope. Youll slide down, but tap the jump button, and youll perform a backflip safely onto land. Youre back is facing the entrance. Turn around, and run forward. Face the red brick wall, and crouch. Crawl inside, and youll enter a room. In here, youll see a bike, drawer, and a hole in the floor that is filled with water. Press action at the drawer, and youll get the Rubber Tube. Now, turn around, and run to the left side of the bike. Pick up the Large Medipack. Theres nothing else in this room, so jump into the water. This path is very short. Just swim forward and up. Youre back to where you started. Climb out of the water and onto the pier. Jump into the second pool, and swim. Mice will attack. Ignore them, and climb out of the water. Run forward, and jump to the platform on the right. Run inside the room, and duck inside the crawl space. Crawl out, and youre back at the well.
Run across the fire, and all the way to the other side of the area. Duck inside the crawl space, and follow the path out. Run forward, and youll see a bridge. Run under it, and youll get the Pitchfork. Go into the inventory, and combine the Pitchfork and the Rubber Tube. Youll get the Catapult. Stand under the sides of the bridge, jump up, and grab. Climb up, and youre on top of the bridge. Run up to the fence, and press action. Use the Catapult. A cutscene will show Lara using the Catapult to hit a device. A bell is rung, and the fence breaks open. You can now run inside the area. Youll see bells on the floor. Pick up the Iron Clapper. It looks like a torch. Then, jump into the hole at the corner of the room. Run through, and to your left, youll see a crypt. Run inside, and at the back of the coffin, youll find an unlit torch. Pick it up, and run out of this room. Follow the path up, and youll see a crypt to your right and left. Run past them since theyre empty. Youll come upon another crypt on your right. Go inside, and theres a fire on the wall. Walk up to the fire, and press action. Lara will light the torch. Run out, and continue following the path. Youll come upon a hole in the floor and another crypt to your right. Theres nothing in that crypt.
Drop the torch into the hole using the Triangle button, and climb down the ladder into the hole. Pick up the torch, and run forward a bit until you find an entrance to your right. Dont go past this point because there are collapsing tiles. You will fall down and get impaled on the spikes, so dont go there. Follow the path into the entrance on the right. Run forward, and make a left. Youll come to a junction. Turn right where the lit torch is on the wall. Make a right here, and go down right. Bats will attack. Ignore them. Youll find that the spikes are here. You are now below the collapsing tiles. Drop the torch for a second, and walk slowly between the spikes. Walk to the right. Be careful since the tiles from above fall down. Crouch, and crawl into the crawl space. Go through, and get the Secret and Large Medipack at the end. Now, crawl back out. Pick up your torch. Leave this room, and ake two lefts. Bats will attack you at this junction. Make a right since the left path is the spike trap, and if you fall, youll die instantly. Go up the right path, and make a left. You are now underneath the tree that the demon was on. You can see the roots of the tree at the top of the dome-shaped hill. Walk under the roots of the tree, and press action. You will burn the roots with the torch. After, you will get the Heart. You have to drop the torch in order to get the Heart.
After you pick up the Heart, a cutscene will take place where Lara meets Father Dunstan. He is standing on top of a hole and muttering a chant. He is fighting a demon. Lara talks to him. Father Dunstan leaves through a hallway. Now, run to the right to go back to the room with the roots of the tree. Pick up the torch if you want. You dont really need it anymore, but pick it up if you wish. Its also kind of dark in here, so you might want to use it. After this, go back to the hall where you met Father Dunstan, and follow the path that he went to. Turn right, and slide down the ramp. Go down, and youre behind the well. Quickly run to the other side past the fire, and duck and crawl through the space again. You have awakened the imp, but dont worry. Theyre just annoying, but they dont hurt you that much. In order to crawl through the space, youll have to leave the torch. Crawl through, and go back to the bridge. Jump, and climb up. Run into the room, and drop down the hole. Follow the path, and youre back to where the crypts are. This time, run all the way to the back, but dont go down the hole. Turn left, and run up. There will be a closed door. To your right will be a slot. Use the Heart here. A cutscene will play where a small white creature emerges from every crypt. Hurry into the door that opened, and another cutscene will play. All the white creatures confront Lara. She holds up the Iron Clapper, and they get scared. She throws the Iron Clapper at them, and most of them die. She also pushes away a block. When the cutscene ends, drop down the hole in front of you, and run forward. Duck, and crawl into the hole. Crawl forward, stand up, and jump. Grab the ledge, and climb up. Run forward, and jump up again. Now, turn right, and run through the corridor. Follow it, and youll run across a bridge. Get the Large Medipack, and crawl into the small hole on the left. Follow the path. Youll have to do some climbing, and pretty soon, the level is over. |
