- Kinomoto Sakura -
Sakura is a grade four student who attends Tomoeda elementary school. Home alone one afternoon following school, she discovers a strange book amoung the expansive collection of her father, who is an archaeology professor. When she examines the book and one of the cards inside, Sakura accidentally loosens a collection of magical Clow Cards upon the world. Moments following this, The Clow's guardian beast, Cerberus awakens. Discovering what she has done, he appoints her the Card Captor. Sakura now has the duty of collecting all the cards before they can do serious harm to the world.

- Kinomoto Touya -
Touya is Sakura's older brother. He torments her in a typical older brother fashion and delights in calling her a monster, teasing her, and finding ways to get her to do what he wants. Despite this, he is incredibly protective of her. As far as Touya is concerned, only he is allowed to pick on Sakura. When anyone else attempts to be mean or tease her, Touya is in her corner, fighting to protect Sakura. Yukito, Touya's best friend, terms this turnabout a ‘Sister Complex'.

- Kinomoto Fujitaka -
Sakura's father.He's a professor of archaelogy and a single dad to boot. This leaves him with a very busy schedule. till, he has managed to raise two mature and highly responsible children who willingly help out with the household chorse..

- Kinomoto Nadasiko -
Sakura's mother, Nadesiko, died when Sakura was very young. She married Sakura's father, Fujitaka, at a very young age. Her family didn't approve of the match and it left them estranged. Rather than take money from them, Nadesiko worked as a model. This has left her immediate family with wonderful photographs of her.

- Cerberus -
The magical Guardian Beast of the "The Clow," the book which contains the clow cards, his true form is that of a massive winged cat. His power is derived from the Earth and Fire cards, both lost when Sakura frees the cards. As a result, for most of the first series he looks more like a stuffed teddy bear with extraordinarily large ears and wings. In this form, he typically uses the name ‘Kero'. Sakura and Tomoya call him Kero-chan.
