Most people, in fact very few, know about the history of business, the history in the 1800's, when America was young and the people were strong. Well, just for the records, we'd like to show you what business was really like back in the 1800's, if you do not prefer our version, check out Thomas Jerfferson's Monticello @ www.monticello.org
Here is what we know about the hisotry of business...
Procter and Gamble ( www.pg.com ) was founded in 1837 as a partnership between William Procter and James Gamble, their business, soap and candles. They have grown so much, that the last candle they have ever made was in 1921. Procter and Gamble went from small Cincinatti corner vendor to a mega-giant in industry with over 300 names you know, like Crest, Tide, Pantene, Tampax, Pringles, Pampers, Oil of Olay, Folgers, Jif, Cover Girl, Downy, Dawn, Bounty, Charmin and IAMS pet foods. and more. They are in over 50 different countries, too. Enough about Procter and Gamble, this is not about them...
Anyways, starting a business in the 1830's was no easy task. With banks closing, poor people and a nation in crisis, starting a lfe long, perhaps eternal business, seemed impossible. To many, it was just too myuch, but for thaose that made it through, it paid off...big time...
So when you think about business, just remember, there's more to it than you thought... |
