The Goo Goo Dolls (formally known as the Sex Maggots) got their name from a magazine. While they were in a bar, drinking (Ain't that unusual) they were flipping through a magazine, looking for ideas for names. They found an ad for a Goo Goo Doll. A Goo Goo Doll is a doll that when you put your fingers in, you can change the expression/emotion. I still think there's a deep meaning to all of this.
The band consists of: Johnny Rzeznik (vocals, guitar), Robby Takac (vocals, bass), and Mike Malinin (drummer). There was a different drummer for their first five albums (there's six...I'll get into that later) and his name was George Tutuska. There really isn't much information about him so I won't put any.
Albums:
1) Goo Goo Dolls: First Release (1987)
2) Led (1988)
3) Hold Me Up (1990)
4) Super Star Car Wash (1993)
5) A Boy Named Goo (1995)
6) Dizzy Up the Girl (1998)
They orginated in Buffalo, New York in 1986 (the year I was born...YAY!). They started as a garage band and played at local clubs, but quickly gathered local fans. They're first gig was in June 1986 at the Contenental (a bar). They went on after the opening band (around 3 in the morning). They got a record deal with Metal Blade and released their first 3 albums with them. They merged with Warner Brothers for Superstar Carwash. Warner Brothers then supported their next album, A Boy Named Goo. After "Name" became a success, the album went double platinum. Dizzy Up the Girl, the bands latest album, has also gone ouble platinum.
That's all I can provide for now. I will be learning more and as I do, I'll post all my knowledge up here. Well, if you know anything that I have not said here, PLEASE email me with ANY information (no matter how small) or with any corrections you want to tell me. I'm checking out. Cya. |
