OK, "Broadway" is autobiographical:
"You see you'd love to run home but you know you ain't got one.."=orphan at 16, probably didn't like home very much before that either...
"And when you're thinkin you're a joke and nobody's gonna listen..."=how he felt about his music, esp. after "Name"
"You choke down all your anger" = living with his dad
"Friday night's gone too far" = John was drinking and doing drugs till he passed out most nights of the week
And it's totally about his dad:
"See the young man sitting in the old man's bar Waiting for his turn to die" = his dad died of alcoholism at fifty-something and "waiting for his turn" = his dad talked about dying all the time (Behind the Music "You gotta take care of yourself, John, cuz I'm not gonna be around much longer") and that's about himself, drinking himself into oblivion at 16, 17 years old
"Forget your only son" um, self-explanatory
