"I Dream of Jeannie" with an African twist. This time the genie's name is "Shabu". He's black and he's hip. His master, Keith Barrow, wasn't too keen on the arrangement since Shabu was always playing practical jokes on him and embarrassing him in sticky social situations. (Yawwwwwwwn!) Shabu came in handy though. When Keith was fired from his weatherman job because he lacked charisma (Immortal dialogue: "You stick on the screen. Like old gum."), Shabu gave him "the charisma of ten men". So when Keith threw a party and invited all his TV station coworkers and bigwigs, he was able to save his reputation. All thanks to Shabu. Ugh!
Despite its hokiness, "Just Our Luck" included some interesting cameos by Roy Orbison, Dr. Joyce Brothers, and Wink Martindale. But it was up against Mr. T and "The A Team" on NBC. Was "The A Team" a better show? I leave that question for other minds to ponder, because when all was said and done, in just 3 months, NBC Network officials scraped this old gum off the screen. |
