Brain Benben, from the HBO series "Dream On" stars in this comedy which started off the season strong, but went nowhere.
Brian was the star anchorman of local a Los Angeles news show but when they moved in a couple of pretty faces to replace him (one male, one female), he was demoted. Brian, once riding high, was now left to report only dull and embarrassing human interest stories on TV.
"Dull and embarrasssing"? Hmmm...
Well, perhaps not quite that bad. But certainly not great. I recall seeing the first couple of episodes and thinking they were OK, but OK wasn't enough to differentiate it from the other mediocre shows out there and make it a "must see". The shows contained a few amusing lines aimed at the phoniness of local TV news but "The Mary Tyler Moore" show and "Murphy Brown" already tackled that topic with more grace and skill.
Not an awful show, but not particularly special either. It came as no surprise when it was cancelled. I'm thinking Brian Benben may return in another series soon a la Ted Danson who moved from the ill-fated "Ink" to the currently popular sitcom "Becker".
TV Guide's 1998 Fall Preview gave this show "Favorite Show" status.
The viewers showed it no attention at all. Up against the second half of FOX's runaway hit "Ally McBeal", it's no wonder.
