16---CHANTING TO ESCAPE
I once witnessed a young man who was being lectured because he had been living in a vacant house without the permission of the owner. The owner found out that he was there and proceeded to tell him that he could no longer live on the premises and that he should get a job and become more responsible. Upon hearing this, the young man immediately began to audibly chant words and a melody that were unfamiliar to me. He obviously was attempting to make enough noise so as to block out this information that he did not want to hear. He likely believed that he was serving his god and showing faith in his god in doing this.
Do each of us tend to do the same thing when we hear a idea that we do not like? We may not audibly start to chant, but do we, in our own way, mistakenly believe that we are serving our God when we block out what we do not want to hear?

15---LOVE IN OUR HEARTS
Love in our hearts was not meant to stay, for love is not love until we give it away.----unknown

14---In the game of love, it can be a bumpy ride,
our hearts can take a beating, and some will choose to hide.
But if I choose to not give up, in the midst of all the pain,
I will have a chance to look within, and to figure out the gain,
I can choose to point a finger, and sometimes it may be true,
but what’s more important than the fault, is a healthy point of view
I could blame the someone, and the someone, could blame me,
but the truth may be a simple matter, of incompatibility.
There may be something special, in the road ahead,
if I choose to grow and not to blame, I might find love instead.

13---46 years, of solitaire.
To win or loose, I did not care.
The lessons learned, along the way,
were not to miss, that one important play.

12---THE ILLUSIVE CARROT
The illusive carrot, always just out of reach. If I can just hang in there long enough, that carrot will be mine. But over 40 of your friends and acquaintances died before they got the carrot, yes but that won’t happen to me, I’ll be one of the ones who succeed. But didn’t all of them say that same thing? Your right, maybe I should think this through for my self, on my own. Do I really need all of these traditional things? I’ve been led to believe I do, but if I didn’t need all this stuff, the illusive carrot could be mine a lot sooner. I heard there are two ways to be rich, earn more or desire less. Could this be true? But would people think less of me if I didn’t need all of these traditional things? I heard that truly evolved and sophisticated people don’t judge others based on how much they own or how prestigious their jobs are. Could this be true??

11---ACCEPTING OTHERS
I have heard it said, that when we try to accept others, even though we might not approve of their beliefs or behavior, that we can assist them in finding they're higher self.---unknown

10---SABOTAGE
It is recognized that friends and families will sometimes subconsciously or consciously try to hinder anothers success. The fear is of, being left behind.---thank-you Sonya

9---1st CLASS
I was waiting in line to purchase a airline ticket. A well dressed man, standing in front of me, commented that he normally flies first class and doesn't have to wait in line, but that all of the first class seats were already filled. I replied by saying, "when a jet is out of control and heading strait down at 500 miles per hour, we're all in the same class". We sat and talked while waiting to board the aircraft. We liked each other even though we were very different. He was very educated and very successful in life. I am simple and my life is simple. A lady recognized him and came over to us. She looked down at me and asked me if I knew who it was that I had the honor of sitting and talking with. I replied, "yes, his name is Chuck" She informed me that Chuck had many, very impressive credentials and told me what they were. After she finished, I replied, " I knew he was at least, all of those things " In a short while we parted to different seat locations on the aircraft. I never saw him again, but I will always remember Chuck, the well dressed, highly educated, very successful man, with a list of credentials that included the most important credential of all, he had a heart, he treats all people as equals.

8---1000 DEATHS
I have heard it said that a coward dies one thousand deaths because he thinks of death often, and that a brave person dies only once because he never thinks about such things. I think it is more likely to be the other way around. The truly brave person gets past the discomfort of thinking of death often, and allows his or her life to be shaped in a mature, healthy, and positive way by that awareness.

7---THE LITTLE THINGS
The father and son were going fishing this day. Both of them keep a daily journal. At the end of the day, the father writes- "went fishing with the boy today, a wasted day". The boy writes- "went fishing with my father today, the best day of my life".---Mormon church

6---REMEMBER YOUR YOUTH
Remember your youth as it passes by,
for as you are now, so once was I,
and as I am now, you will someday be,
prepare for death and follow me. grave stone -- Haines, Alaska

5---THE TRAILS ARE COUNTLESS
The trails of the world be countless, and most of them be tried,
you tread on the heals of the many, until you come to where the ways divide.
And one lies safe in the sunlight, and the other is dreary and wan,
yet you look aslant, at the lone trail, and the lone trail, lures you on. memorial for a bush pilot. Juneau, Alaska.

4---SLAPPING THE WATER
I remember a short story that is meaningful to me about a young girl who wanted to study martial arts. Her parents told her she could take the class. The class would last all summer long and she would only come home to be with her family on weekends. She was very excited. On the first day of the class, the instructor told her to sit with him on the edge of a small pond. He told her to slap the water. She slapped the water and he said "good, now continue slapping the water for 8 hours a day for the rest of the week". She couldn't believe her ears, she wanted to learn martial arts, not slap water. At the end of the week she went home and was dreading her parents asking her to demonstrate what she had learned. Later that day, as she and her family sat at a table, her parents did ask for a demonstration. Angrily, the child slapped the table and yelled " I learned nothing". The table broke in half.

I Don't know if it’s a true story but I'd like to believe that each of us, by slapping the water, even though it seems futile at times, may be able to achieve the things that we want.

3---A ROCK NAMED SARAH
I was in a more positive mood than usual on this particular morning while on my daily walk. I decided to pick up some litter rather than just passing it by. I reached down to pick up a piece of broken glass and saw something that caught my eye . It was a reddish-brown colored rock. I picked it up and immediately knew something was very special about this rock. Its location was not near a stream or river and yet it was worn smooth. It has had other guardians over the years. It has been held and caressed. I named her Sarah. I felt that she had something to tell me. I carried her with me for the next two weeks. Everywhere I went, she came along. I would embrace her and listen to her with all of my heart. She wanted me to write a song, a childrens song. She said that children can hear and understand things that adults cannot. She told me to listen with my heart like I've never listened before. She said the creative mind and intellectual mind would have different and specific jobs. She said to allow the creative mind to have complete control of the songs design. She told me to not allow logic to limit the song in any way. She said to only use the intellectual mind if absolutely necessary. For the next two weeks I was never without pen and paper. I would be on a walk and would hear Sarah's whisper. In the middle of the night, I would awaken to a gentle voice saying, it is time to write. I completed the lyrics and told Sarah that I knew how the melody should go and I knew what the chord progression should be, but that I had run into a serious problem. I told her I needed a child to sing the song but didn't know of any. I told her that I needed a piano to play the chords but that I only knew how to play the guitar. She could feel how sad I was to have run into this dead end. She told me the problem was all in my mind. She told me to continue to let the creative mind design the song. She told me that it was time to give the intellectual mind special instructions. She said, tell the intellectual mind to stop telling you what you cannot do and to start figuring out ways to assist you in completing this song. Two weeks later, the song was finished. With slight tears in my eyes, I played it for Sarah. She smiled.

This is the first verse and chorus of --- universal child ---

There’s power in the patience of a tiny seedling, force to push through stone,
though gradual, is its motion, its power will be known.
Some seeds grow with grace and ease, strait up towards the sky,
and some seeds fight to grow at all, as others pass them by.
The biggest job is not to doubt, though progress may seem slow,
a tiny thought can someday sprout, a plan that will someday glow.

Reach up, reach up and touch,
reach up and touch the sky.
Reach out , reach out and help,
others who struggle in life.

Sarah represents the creative mind.

2---PIONEER WOMAN
Have thought of home and the dear ones there, the quiet Sabbath, and the sanctuary they enjoy, while we are among these cruel mountains, in this most dreary place, dependent upon strangers for assistance in surviving. Nearly out of provisions and our animals famishing. All these things together almost shake the faith, but it must not be so. ----------- Eleanor Allen 1852 Barlow road emigrant

1--- A COURAGEOUS WOMAN
Susan wasn't feeling well. She went in for some tests. The tests revealed that she had a terminal disease. She told her friends that she would be dead soon. In disbelief, one of her friends asked, "But Susan, how could this be happening to you"? Susan calmly replied, "why not me" -----memories of Susan Galambos

0--- BOOK IDEA ---MAXIMIZE YOUR MISERY
In this world of little or no problems, it is becoming more and more important to find ways to tap into the limitless misery that the world has to offer. This book can enable you to do just that. With a little effort, you too, can master the dying art of being absolutely miserable.

0a---FROG STORY
My neighbors have one of those small statue frogs in their back yard. Its is designed to make frog-like noises when it senses motion. I guess because of all the rain in our area, there was a short circuit within this frog and it would randomly make very loud croaking noises throughout the seemingly endless nights. To add to this dilemma, many of the frogs from the near by lake were attracted by this all to real frog impersonator. Soon the nights were filled with the sounds of hundreds of over stimulated frogs. Sleep became impossible and as I laid there in my bed, I found myself thinking unkind thoughts towards these frogs. I found myself wishing for snakes, lots and lots of snakes. The story ends with my neighbors becoming aware of the situation even though their bed room is on the opposite side of the house. They took the frogs battery out and once again peace has been restored in our neighborhood. The end.
