Tenchi in Tokyo! Tenchi Muyo! is the story of a young boy in high school, Tenchi Masaki. He lives in rural Japan, near a shrine with his father and his grandfather, a Shinto priest. One day, Tenchi decides to head to a nearby cave, against his grandfather's advice, where a demon has been sealed up for thousands of years. Tenchi accidentally opens the cave and releases the demon, also taking a light-sword in the process. This demon turns out to be the space pirate, Ryoko, a beautiful but crazy being who has been trapped in the cave. Tenchi's ancestor put her there as punishment for crimes she commited under the influence of the evil Kagato. This discovery begins a chain of events that involve two princesses of the planet Jurai, Ayeka and Sasami, and a galaxy police officer, Mihoshi, and Ryoko's creator, the mad scientist Washu. Eventually all of these women end up stranded on Earth, and move in with Tenchi and his family. There's only one problem with this arrangement- they all want to go out with Tenchi! Inbetween their interstellar adventures, they spend most of their time trying to keep one another from getting the upper hand with Tenchi, who wants nothing to do with all of this. He's too shy! Finally Tenchi discovers that he is related to Ayeka and Sasami and is in fact a member of the Jurai royal family, with the power to wield the master key, a sword also called "Tenchi." Buit it doesn't always respond to his commands…In emergencies, Tenchi also has the power of the "Lighthawk wings," a type of energy force that is the most powerful in the universe. Will Tenchi face up to his destiny as a member of the Jurai royal family? Watch and find out. Ryoko Ryoko is a Space pirate who, depending on which Tenchi series you're watching, was either imprisoned by one of Tenchi's ancestors or who crash landed on Earth while trying to escape the wrath of Princess Ayeka and the Galaxy Police. They want her to pay for her various crimes as a pirate, which include robbery and assault, among other things…Also depending on which Tenchi series you're watching, she was either created by the mad scientist Washu, or was a partner of Washu's …. whatever. Ryoko is 700 or so, but appears young and beautiful, and is definitely passionate about Tenchi- she's in love with him, and she'll do anything for him. However, her impetuous and conniving ways often get in the way of their relationship- but Tenchi knows that Ryoko cares for him, and he doesn't get too angry with her. Very often. Well, sometimes…you'll see. Princess Ayeka Princess Ayeka is a member of royalty from the planet Jurai. She has traveled across the galaxy looking for Ryoko, whom she thinks has hurt or kidnapped her former betrothed, Yosho. This too, varies depending on which Tenchi series you are watching, though. Ayeka crash lands on Earth and is forced to live with Ryoko at Tenchi's house. She falls in love with Tenchi, and she spends most of her time either fighting over Tenchi with Ryoko, or scheming in conjunction with her to cut out the other women in the house. Ayeka is the crown princess of Jurai, and is used to being treated like royalty. It is a great shock to her to be around all of the "coarse" people in the house, especially Ryoko. Ayeka is the big sister of Sasami, who has a much sunnier disposition. Ayeka is prudish, uptight, self-pitying, and spiteful, but she loves Tenchi very much and will defend him to the death. She even makes friends with Ryoko, though it's not always argument free. Sasami Sasami is the younger sister of the Princess Ayeka, also an heir to the royal throne of Jurai. Depending on which Tenchi series you are watching, Sasami either crash landed on Earth with her sister while chasing Ryoko, or came to Earth in a mishap involving Ryoko and Tenchi. One thing is for sure- Sasami loves to cook! In each Tenchi series, Sasami ends up taking care of virtually all the chores around the Masaki household- especially cooking. The other members of the house all anxiously await the next Sasami masterpiece. Sasami enjoys her time away from the responsibilities of the court of Jurai. She spends whatever free time she can with Ryo-oki, with whom she has a very strong bond. She is both her pet and her best friend. In Tenchi in Tokyo, Ryo-oki can turn into a giant robo-bunny of sorts, into which Sasami climbs and pilots much like a Gundam. Don't ask... Sasami is the most responsible member of the Masaki household, even though she is also the youngest. She harbors a small crush on Tenchi, who looks on her as a little sister. Mihoshi Mihoshi is a bubble-brained officer in the Galaxy Police Force. It is still hard to believe that Mihoshi has achieved the level of Officer First Class, even knowing that her grandfather is the Grand Marshall of the Galaxy Police. Mihoshi is always bumbling and stumbling into danger, creating a world of trouble for her levelheaded partner Kiyone. Fortunately, Kiyone is mostly able to keep Mihoshi under control. When Kiyone is not around, however, only Mihoshi's simple dumb luck prevents disaster. Mihoshi is cheerful, bouncy and loves eating and napping. You'd never know she was one of the most dangerous people in the universe. Washu Would you guess by looking at her that Washu is 20,000 years old? Possibly even older? It's true. One of the oldest beings in the universe, Washu is also one of the smartest. In fact, Washu a super genius and maverick inventor who is obsessed with learning, creating new devices and making new discoveries. Washu has built energy weapons and even mastered inter-dimensional travel. The pink-haired scientist can become so focused on her work that sometimes she ends up viewing life as one big technical experiment. In Tenchi Muyo, Washu is Ryoko's mother and treats her just like a child. Kiyone Kiyone is Mihoshi's unlucky partner in the Galaxy Police Force. Like Mihoshi, Kiyone is an Officer First Class, but unlike Mihoshi, she might actually deserve the title. Kiyone is extremely dedicated to her job and is generally considered to be a star officer. Even as a rookie, her colleagues pegged her for the top spot on the force. Unfortunately, Kiyone seems to spend more time managing Mihoshi's mishaps than actually fighting crime in the galaxy. Truth be told, Mihoshi's harebrained antics could cause some serious trouble if it weren't for Kiyone's constant intervention. Even then, Kiyone's ability to stay calm and focused under pressure can't always prevent disaster, but when you consider her circumstances, Kiyone performs amazingly well. Kiyone is happiest when singing karaoke. She's even happier when Mihoshi isn't around! Ryo-Oki The creative Washu wanted to know what would happen if she combined a cat with a rabbit. The answer: Ryo-Oki! Washu's adorable little invention is truly a miraculous creature. Ryo-Oki can transform into a human guise, appearing as a six-year-old girl. And when space travel is required, Ryo-Oki is able to change into a spaceship. Talk about versatility! |
