OMG! Triton City is huge! Akurei grinned.
Beneath him, as he stood on a cliff, sprawled out the city. So like Fushia City to his mind, for in fact, the citys edges where linked to a small set of islands, the water was so crystal clear, unlike the polluted shores back home. He sighed, remembering. Team Rocket had taken over most of the world he knew, and it was slowly dieing. Its waters where so polluted that they were almost black, and only through hundreds of psychic pokemon was the air kept somewhat clean.
Akurei? Gemasides voice cut through his memories. He shook his head.
Lets get going
He turned and with Bedine and Gemaside at his side, he slowly got down the cliff.
His feet took him close to the centare, and he looked at the two.
Is it safe? And Bedine nodded with a doggy-like grin. Akurei smiled and led the way into the huge building. Its floor was of some strange type of marble, blue-green in color with stripes of silver inlaid in it. The columns in the room stood tall in the form of several different types of pokemon. Here he saw something like a Mankey, its thin limb outstretched like a fighters. And there, a fire pokemon, with a fire body and gold gleaming eyes. Akureis jaw dropped watching it all.
Akurei
dont gawk. Gemaside warned.
Sorry
heh. Akurei chuckled and walked to a young lady in blue behind the desk at the far end of the room.
Hello, Her voice was like the shifting of waves. Can I help you?
I was wondering if I could get a room for the night with my two pokemon...?
Sure! We have a room at the top of the stairs, three doors down.
How much
? He said slowly.
OH! All rooms are free for the trainers.
He thanked her and headed upstairs, finding the room and plopping down in a huge bed full of tiny fish, a waterbed.
This world is so
expensive. He laughed and curled up on his side, eyes shut tight.
Do you really think so? I like it
but
Bedine stopped as he noticed Akurei was asleep. Bedine jumped up to snuggle against him, and on his other side, Gemaside did as well
Morning came into the room, hitting its occupants. The first to stir was Bedine, who stretched and yawned. Gemaside followed.
We should go get food before he wakes up
Bedine said.
Yes, lets go. They left the room and the centare.
Akurei let out a long yawn as he woke. Bedine and Gemaside where talking quietly in a corner over something. He watched them through half lidded eyes. It was a wonder that they were mortal enemies before, and now best friends. He chuckled silently and whistled to the two, who turned to look at him.
Morning sleepy-head. Gemasides voice in his mind nudged him fully awake.
Morning you two. You ready to fight today? They woofed lightly and he smiled. He got out of bed and grabbed a pair of jeans and a tee shirt from his bookbag, one of the three last outfits he had, and shrugged into them. He ran his fingers through his blue-black hair and yawned again.
Lets get going
Its a long walk.
The two nodded and hopped out of the room happily. Akurei followed with a yawn and waved goodbye to the lady behind the desk as they left the centare.
Can you find the gym?
Bedine nodded and pointed towards a huge building that looked like a wave crashing upon the shore. Akurei smiled.
Ok, then lets go for it.
They walked to the gyms doors. Akurei looked at the two.
You two both have to go into pokeballs untill we fight.
Gemaside sighed loudly.
Ok
Ok
And Akurei zapped them into their maxtraballs. He walked through the doors slowly
Can I help you? Said a young man as soon as Akurei stepped inside. The doors shut behind him loudly.
Uh
I want to challenge the gym leader. The man nodded and handed him what looked like scuba gear.
You must wear these to get to him. Akurei slipped the facemask on and hitched the oxygen tank onto his back. Akurei nodded.
Just follow the tunnel, young man. And you will get there
if you make it
Akurei put the mouthpiece in and quickly jumped into the water. It was freezing! He floated for a moment, getting used to it, then dove back under the surface. Underneath the wall was a tunnel. Akureis face fell. He had always had a slightly awful fear of such a cramped space, but he knew he must do it. He closed his eyes and swan into the tunnel. It seemed to be lit by tiny little plants that glowed. He watched in wonder as pokemon of every shape and size swam by. For a moment, he almost swore he even saw a Magikarp! But it was nothing. Finally, the tunnel went upwards, and he broke the surface once again. Before him lay a platform, held up by posts carved into huge, towering pokemon that were dark blue and had fins. Akurei blinked and got up on the platform, where he took the mouth piece out and took a deep breath. He looked down and saw thefloor was clear, and he could see everything below it. He looked up.
Hello? His voice echoed.
Akurei sat down, shivering, and waited for someone to come.
Konbanwa. A voice called to him.
Akurei looked up and saw a figure in the shadows.
Hello
I came to fight the gym leader
No duh, my friend. But you must fight me before you fight the all might
Triton! The voice was definitely female. Akurei blinked.
I
cant see you
And slowly, the girl stepped into the light
Or swam! She was normal onto, but had a mermaid-like tail that floated above the platform. Akurei gaped. She wore a tight fitting body-suit over her torso, and the scaled on her
tail
were blue-green that gleamed. She giggled.
Dont stare!
Akurei blushed.
Ok, boy, lets fight! Bubbline! I choose you! And a rather large pokemon came out from the maxtraball. It stood maybe 4 feet tall, and was glittering with scales that ranged all over every color of blue. It had fins on its paws, but its back feet was a tail, much like its owner. Its aquamarine eyes watched Akurei. Slowly, he nodded and called out
Bedine! Come forth! And He threw out Bedines ball. Bedine landed on the platform.
Uhh
Bedine, use Mindshock now! Bedine growled lightly and sent forth a bolt of light that hit Bubbline on the forehead, making it roar pain as its mind got eletriculted from the inside. She fell forward with a woof.
No! Bubbline! Use
Fast Strike! The pokemon got up and attacked Bedine so fast even Akurei couldnt make it out. Bedine growled loudly.
Try slash Bedine! Bedine charged the pokemon and slashed it across its face and side. Bluish blood flew from the wounds, and Bubbline fell again. But it slowly got back up. It shot water out at Bedine, but its attack backfired as Bedine simply shocked it back, and the water intensified and neatly knocked out Bubbline.
Oh
poor baby. The girl came up and cuddled Bubbline in her arms. You are very good, boy. I dont know if youll beat my father though! And she swam away. Akurei sighed and walked to the door at the far end of the platform, and slowly opened the door
His eyes widen in shock. Here, like the platform, was clear, and beneath it he could see at least ten trainers and pokemon battling. Some where electric against water, water against water, and more. But his real shock came when he looked up. In a throne, in the shape of a crashing wave, and its colors shifting like real water, was another mermaid-like person, this one male and extremely strong looking. Akurei gasped. Over the mans heart was a wave-shaped pin of some blue type of gem.
Are you ready, boy? The man questioned.
Yes
I am
Akurei said slowly.
Then choose your pokemon.
Akurei fumbled for Bedines pokeball and tossed it out.
Bedine, come forth! Bedine appeared.
Triton looked the pokemon over before whistling. From behind the throne came a tiny pokemon with wicked claws and teeth, but its body was made out of moving water. It never stayed the same shape for more then a moment. Watching it was making Akurei sick. Akurei pulled out his ultradex and pointed it at the new pokemon.
Mistem. A water pokemon. The evolved form of Mistine. A very deadly
pokemon.
Akurei sighed. Bedine
use
MindShock!
Bedine glowed and tried to zap Mistem, but the water pokemon simply grabbed hold of Bedines head and held on, attacking Bedine with his own move. Bedine howled and stared hard at the pokemon as he panted. He gathered his electricity and barked.
THUNDERCRASH! Bedine roared. His powers lit up the room painfully bright. As Akurei could finally see again, he nearly fell over. Mistem had simply split itself apart, and it now laid in thousands of drops on the floor. Akureis mouth fell open.
Mistem, Called Triton in his deep voice. Use Deaths Toll now!
Mistem gathered its body together again and also gathered its powers. The water shone bright and it shot out a huge bolt of black at Bedine. Bedine only moved at the last second, but the beam half caught him. He fell to the floor with a pain-filled whimpering. Akurei called him back quickly, worried.
Choose your last pokemon or forfeit.
Akurei sighed and let Gemaside free. He was sure Gemaside would get hurt now. Gemaside charged Mistem the moment she was free and slashed it. Well
tried to. Her claws of silver passed through the pokemon like it was nothing. Akurei groaned.
Oh no! It must be like immuned to Psychical attacks, like Genger! Gemaside, use Nightmare! Akurei roared to her.
Gemaside got to her feet and quickly shot forth her move to Mistem. It caught the pokemon fully and it thrashed as it dreamed of getting hit hard by the sun and whisping away. It gave a watery sheirk and groaned. Gemaside grinned her type of grin and slammed home a shot of PsychicSpan, that finished off Mistem.
Triton watched in shock. It had been almost 10 years since someone had beat him. Maybe
maybe
this was the one he heard about. He snorted lightly and got his act back together, sliding down from his throne to bow before Akurei.
You have proven yourself
He looked at Akurei questioningly.
Akurei.
Akurei, to be a most excellent pokemon trainer. As proof you have defeated me, I award you the Aqua badge. Triton unpinned the pin from his vest and pinned it on Akurei. Now
What did you think of Mistem?
Akurei blinked at the sudden question. I think it is one of the best pokemon I have seen! He blurted truthfully.
Triton only smiled. Then I want you to have it. Triton called back the injured pokemon into its ball and handed it to Akurei. This ball was different. It was deep blue that shimmered, and instead of a normal button, it had a wave that you pressed to open it.
Please take good care of it. He looked at Akureis surprised face. I want to retire from this, Akurei. My daughter will take over. I hope you do well on your journey, and never give up the hope. And he floated away, into the distance
