Chapter 27

I stand before the court with Magnus on my shoulder. Scott and his friends sit in the audience and watch the action. The Council of Elders talk to the judge and jury as I await my turn.
“I believe that what we did to Jewel and many others who figured out about the guarding angel pokémon was right considering the circumstances. She and the others are jeopardizing the very thing that protects people everywhere. Your honor, I was wondering what the charges were against us?”
“Jewel charges you with silencing people who are trying to talk and condemning a certain type of pokémon to one job for their whole life.”
“Oh. That’ll be all Your Honor.” The elder that was talking sits down.
“Thank you. Jewel do you have any thing to say?” I nudge Magnus.
“Since court cases are verbal battles Jewel would like to be able to talk right now. It’s only fair considering what she has to work with,” Magnus says carefully.
“Jewel. You may have your voice back for this court case and keep it if you win the case.”
“Thank you sir.” I say. My hands come to the mouth that could final talk. “Today I will explain why it’s wrong to silence us when we try to make a point. They silence us because we try to tell the world about these wonderful pokémon and that want to battle for trainers. I think we should give these pokémon a chance to be free in the wild and get caught like every other pokémon. It’s unfair that they can’t experience what my pokémon have and will have. Instead of having a pokémon that cannot be seen to have a pokémon that can be seen and make them all different types. Instead of giving a guarding angel to someone who doesn’t even know they’re there why can we give them a pokémon that is not permitted to battle except if their owners are in danger. They can have pokémon guarding them and also have that pokémon to talk to and console in. Your honor, I think I’ve made my point.” The judge looks at me with approval then at the bewildered council of Elders. I put Magnus on the table alongside Vulpix and pet Vulpix, my guardian pokémon.
“Would you like to call your first witness.” I quietly sit down and listen to the Council of Elders as they call up their first witness.
“I call Jewel to the stand.” I look up bewildered that they chose me to testify. I rise slowly and walk to the chair. I sit down and a police officer comes over to me.
“Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you god.”
“I do,” I say truthfully. I didn’t need to lie to make my point. I catch Scott’s eye and he smiles at me.
“So Jewel, how long have you know about the guarding pokémon?”
“I’ve known for quiet awhile but about a week ago I saw them for the first time.”
“So the Council of Elders didn’t know you knew about the guarding pokémon.”
“No. I wasn’t even sure they existed when I was younger. You have to understand that I felt that if I told someone they would either not believe me or think I was crazy so I kept it to myself. The Council of Elders never found out because I never told anyone and when I finally did I was silenced without warning.”
“But you did tell someone?”
“Yes. I’m not going to say who because then you will take their voice as you did mine.”
“I will not force you to say so.” I look at the Elder questioning me. He is a human and is wearing a business suit like the one I’d seen my dad wear. The man has no hair and has these boring gray eyes. “Did you liked being silenced?”
“What kind of question is that? Well to answer your question no. I did not like to be silenced and I don’t think anyone enjoys it.”
“Thank you.” He says to me. “No further questions, Your Honor.” He sits back down and so do I.”
“Jewel, do you have anything else to say?”
“I think I’ve said everything I’ve needed to, Your Honor. Thank you.”
The judge turns and looks at the Council of Elders. “Do you have anything else to say?”
“The Defense rests.”
“Now the jurors will go and decide the end of this court case. Fifteen minute recess while they decide.” I get up, pick up Magnus and Vulpix, and slowly walk out of the room. There are benches right outside the door leading to the courtroom and I sit on one. Vulpix looks up at me and nods reassuringly and Magnus does the same.
“Magnus return.” He willingly goes into his pokéball. “Vulpix. Do you think I won?” She looks up and gives me this look like ‘are you kidding?’ I put my arms around her and pull her close. She licks my face and I smile happily.
“Jewel?” I look up to see Scott.
“Scott! It’s so go to see you!” He sits down next to me.
“It’s so good to hear you. You were always a good debater.”
“Thanks,” I say blushing slightly. “I love how you have stayed by my side throughout this. It’s great not to be alone.”
“Your welcome. I enjoy being by your side through this. You’ll win.”
“How’d you know what I was thinking?”
“I can see it in your eyes. You were great.”
“Thanks.” I say blushing again.
Over a loud speaker someone says, “The jurors have made their decision. Please regroup in courtroom 7 for the final decision.”
“Well that’s my cue. Wish me luck.” He leans over and gives me a light kiss on my forehead.
“The best of luck to you even though you don’t need it.” I smile, blush, and then walk holding Vulpix into the courtroom.
“See you after!” I call as I disappear into the room. I walk and sit down. I stand as the Judge enters the room followed by the jurors.
“Please be seated. We have made our decision. We find that the Council of Elders is…”

Chapter 28

“We find that the Council of Elders…” Dramatic pause. My heart flip-flops as I wait. “…Guilty of the following charges. Silencing people who are trying to talk and condemning a certain type of pokémon to one job for their whole life. As your punishment you will give people their voices back and begin to issue pokémon to everyone and set their guardian pokémon free. If the punishments are not met then you will have more severe punishments until they are met. This is not a joke and I remember I can get you fired and get more people to be on the council like Jewel so you better not screw up.”
“Yes sir.” One of the elders mutters backing out of the courtroom. The rest leave silently feeling badly defeated. An overwhelming sense of happiness and joy come over me. I did it. I really did it! The guarding pokémon are going to finally be free and they have me to thank. A weight on my shoulders seems to be lifted. I look down to see I’m off the floor being held up by the guarding pokémon. I smile as they slowly put me down and start to thank me. I nod to them as Scott walks towards me. He opens his arms and I walk into them with Vulpix on my back.
“I can’t believe it’s over. I can talk and enjoy my life.” I put my arms around him and we hold each other for awhile.

I happily sit in my room with all of my pokémon out of their pokéball talking to one another. I sit in one chair and Scott sits in the other and we talk happily.
“Jewel?”
“Huh?” I reply looking around. My guarding pokémon appears in front of me. “Oh. Hi.”
“Thank you again for setting us free. Vulpix was made your guarding pokémon so I’m no longer needed.”
“I would be honored if you would join me… I mean become my pokémon.”
“I’d love too!” I hold out a pokéball and it touches it. It’s sucked in and I smile. My guarding is my friend and now my new pokémon.
I smile as Vulpix climbs onto my legs. “Did you hear Vulpix? You’re my new guarding pokémon!” She looks up happily and settles on my legs.
“What does your guarding pokémon look like?”
“Here. I’ll show you.” I pull out my green pokédex and open it. With a push of a button it shows a picture of it then says,

Guarden – the guardian pokémon
This pokémon was released of its duty of being
a guardian. Now it lives wild in groups with one another.
This pokémon is psychic, ghost, and flying types.
Only certain people can see this pokémon.

“Wow! It looks like that! Cool.” Actually Guarden is very scary looking. It has razor sharp teeth and a small head. The bottom of it looks like a ripped gown blowing in the wind.
“Yeah. I have one now. I want to go train.”
“Okay. Let’s go.”

Ready to battle I enter the battling room. I’m well known around here now and people always want to battle me. I find a reasonable foe and we get ready to battle. The trainer has short ear-length blond hair and blue eyes. Her blue shirt accents her eyes and she wears a short skirt. Vulpix sits on my back as I pull out a pokéball. I throw it and Ponyta appears in front of me. My foe throws a pokéball and a Seel appears.
“Ponyta watch out!” I scream knowing that Seel could take out Ponyta easily if it gets hit. The Seel uses Water Gun but misses because Ponyta jumps into the air and falls down on top of Seel hurting it a lot. Seel escapes from under Ponyta and uses Arora Beam. It hits Ponyta but she stands through it.
“Ponyta!” I scream. A bright light surrounds her and slowly she start to evolve. I smile when Seel stops the attack and before me is a beautiful Rapidash. “Rapidash use Kick now!” Rapidash runs up to the Seel and kicks it with its hind legs. Seel is thrown against the wall and is knocked out cold.
She holds up its pokéball and it returns. She throws a pokéball and an Aerodactal pops out standing on the ground. He unfolds his wings and flies up into the air. He dives down and tries to pick up Rapidash underestimating its weight. When he realizes how heavy my Rapidash is he flies up and starts to flap his wings fast. Rapidash withstands the winds and actually walks forward in it. She jumps up into the air and pushes the Aerodactal to the ground. It whinnies as the trainer calls back the flying pokémon. She takes out a pokéball and looks at it. I notice her pouch had three pokéballs in it so this was the last one. She throws it and unknown pokémon pops out. I pull out my pokédex and it says,

Fathrem – a ghost pokémon
Unlike most ghost pokémon this pokémon
can learn any move so it is very rare.
Nothing else if known about this pokémon.

“Be careful Rapidash!” I say knowing the dangers. She gives me an attitude like ‘why don’t you trust me.’ She gets ready for battle and before she knows what hits her, the Fathrem uses a strong water attack. “Rapidash!” She looks at me and then with pure determination she fights the attack. Her eyes turn scarlet red and she erupts into flames that evaporates the oncoming water. The opposing trainer’s chin drops open as my Rapidash begins to attack her Fathrem with fire attacks. Fathrem turns invisible and begins to unleash a great number of different types of attacks and all of them hit my Rapidash and she falls to the ground unable to get up.
“Rapidash Return!” She looks at me sadly and then goes back into her pokéball. I pull out all of my pokéballs and try to decide what pokémon to use next. Vulpix points to one. I pick it up and look it over. Guarden’s pokéball sits in my fingers and I decide to use it. I throw it and Guarden appears in front of me. The person looks at me like I’ve done something wrong.
“A Guarden?” Her hands come to her mouth. Her Fathrem looks back bewildered. “But how? He’s supposed to be guarding you!”
“Come with me and I’ll explain it to you.” I walk to the Pokémon Center and hand my pokémon to the nurse. I sit down and she sits next to me. Scott stands to my left as I begin to describe it to her.
