Chapter 21

The first thing I see when I wake up is Magnus on my stomach. He smiles when he sees I’m up and comes up to my face. He licks my face so I hug him close. A thought pops into my head.
“Magnus, when are we going to battle and what attacks do you have?”
“We will battle when we both are ready. Also I honestly know what attacks I have but I’ve never battled before. One of them is called Lava but I have no clue what it does because I’ve never had to use it.”
“Oh. I have another question. Why can you talk?”
“Well, as far as I know our breed just has the ability to talk. My type is not psychic so I guess it’s just a gift we have always had.”
“Okay. Do you think we could battle today?”
“Well… I guess so.”
“Great!” I stand up happily look around for my backpack. I pick it up and take out all my clothes and out them away in a dresser nearby. I put everything else away and then change into something a little more appropriate. I keep on my light blue shirt but instead of short shorts I put on a pair of form fitting jeans. I pick up Magnus and Vulpix and head out the door. Magnus leads me to a closed door so I knock. A tall person opens the door and invites us in. I walk in with my eyes still glued to the tall person. My eyes shift to the room now around me. A huge arena like I had never seen before. There are many trainers getting their pokémon ready for battle.
One trainer walks up to me and says, “Do you want to battle?”
“Sure!” I reply gleaming.
“Let’s battle over there.” She points to a square of land. She runs a hand through her magnificent short light brown hair.
“Okay,” I say a little unsure. I follow the trainer and we get ready for battle. As notice as she walks the long sleeved navy blue shirt she’s wearing and the tight black mini skirt that hangs around her waist. We reach the field and Vulpix and Magnus are by my side as my contender chooses her first pokémon.
“I choose you, Legana!” a creature pops out of the pokéball thrown and I’m amazed at the pokémon before me. Another small pokémon, this one measuring about three feet tall most likely one of a beginning pokémon’s advanced stages. It has two vines coming out from its sides and stands on its hind legs. Its green color suggests that it is a grass type so this will be a good battle for Magnus.
“Go Magnus!”
He looks up at me in astonishment. “You’ll really let me go in?”
“Oh course! Now go it ‘em!”
“Okay!” He walks out into the field and takes a battling position.
“Legana use your Grass Missile attack!” Legana backs up and lets five missiles go. They all hit Magnus with great force and send him to the ground.
“Magnus! Get up and use your Lava attack!” Magnus jumps up and gets ready to use his attack. Lava starts to form in his small hands and when an enough had been collected he throws it directly at Legana and it hits the pokémon right in the face. Legana struggles to get it off but fails and faints.
“Legana lost? Um, Legana return! I choose you, Sapphire!” A white cat like creature with a blue jewel on its head pops out of the pokéball. Guessing by the jewel’s color it must be a water type. Oh-no! Magnus is in big trouble!
“Magnus return now!” Magnus looks back disappointed but figures it must be for the best. I pull out a pokéball and throw it while saying, “Electabuzz I choose you!” Electabuzz appears in front of me.
“Sapphire you’re my last hope! Use your Wave attack!” Sapphire makes a huge wave of water and it comes crashing down onto Electabuzz.
“Use your Thunder attack!” Electabuzz creates a tremendous amount of energy and shoots it towards the opposing pokémon. It hits Sapphire and she faints.
“Sapphire return. I can’t believe I lost!” She walks over to me and says, “That’s impressive! I’ve never lost before and I really didn’t think I would lose to you but well I’m impressed.” I smile as I look down at Magnus.
“Well. A victory is never a victory without your friends!” I bend over and pick Magnus and Vulpix and give them each a hug. Electabuzz walks over and I give him a hug also.
“That is very true. I see how much you care for your pokémon and I think that is so sweet. I agree with you on that point and well I was very surprised to see a Magnus fight. A Magnus is normally considered a nice pet but I see that it can battle very well if trained properly. What other pokémon do you have?” she says with disappointment still lingering in her bright baby blue eyes.
“All I have is Magnus from this area but from Earth I have many more including my Vulpix and Electabuzz.”
“You’ve been to earth?”
“Yeah, I’ve lived there all my life. I actually just arrived here yesterday.”
“That’s so neat! I’d love to learn about Earth and the pokémon there.”
“Okay. Well how about over lunch? I’m getting really hungry.”
“Sure! Let’s go now. Um, by the way what’s your name?”
“My name’s Jewel. Electabuzz return!”
“Well mine’s Jessica.” And with that we begin our walk down a hallway to the food hall.

Chapter 22

We are sitting enjoying lunch as I tell Jessica about Earth. We finally finish and depart from each other. Me and my pokémon head for the room with the two devices in the corners. I follow Magnus’s instructions and get in the machine. This one I sit in and straps come across my arms and legs. A device comes over my head and fits to where it is over just covering just below my neck.
“Jewel, this machine teaches you how to breathe in the thin air above the Earth if the sphere many break around you.” He starts up the machine and then I find it harder to breathe but soon I learn to control my breathing and it becomes very easy. After about three minutes the machine is turned off. “Jewel, I’m most impressed! No one has ever done it that fast!”
“What’s next?” I ask stepping out of the machine.
“I think it’s time to visit the Professor.” I walk down the halls he tells me to and I end up in front of a partially open door. I knock on the frame and then wait for an answer.
“Come on in,” I hear a female voice call out. I carefully walk into the room. A tall, thin lady with blond, shoulder length hair comes out of a room on the left.
“How can I help you?” she asks.
“Can I talk with the Professor?”
“That’s me! What do you need?”
“I need a pokédex for up here and a couple of answers for a few questions.”
“Well,” she says looking around on a table, “here’s a pokédex.” She hands me a green pokédex and smiles. “Now what about those questions?”
“Well where are wild pokémon and how do I capture them?”
“They are out on pieces of land that were going to end up being structures but never got completed so wild pokémon live there now. There are many of them built that have been explored but there are so many more that haven’t been explored. Also many pokémon live freely out in the sky”
“Do you have a map for this city?”
“Yeah.” She gazes around and then sees a pack of the on the floor. She takes one and hands it to me.
“Thanks, I guess that’s it!”
“Bye!” the Professor says cheerfully. I walk out of the room still astonished that there was a female Professor. I notice Magnus looking tired so I decide to head to the Pokémon Center on this place. I look at the map, which was just given me and locate in. I walk around this city in the sky, which on the top of the map says it is called Ariel City. I finally get to the Pokémon Center and hand the nurse my pokémon. I sit on a nearby bench while I wait for them to be healed.
“Hey Jewel!”
“Huh?” I turn around to see Jessica walking into the Pokémon Center. I stand up and greet her then together we sit down.
“Jewel, your pokémon are healed!” one of the nurses says. I stand up and get my pokémon from the smiling nurse. I smile back at her and take my pokémon. I let Magnus out, whom is now in his pokéball. He smiles at me and then climbs onto my shoulder next to Vulpix. Jessica and me talk for about fifteen minutes before my now very irritated Magnus interrupts us.
“Excuse me! I’m getting so bored here!” Magnus says in an annoyed tone.
“Sorry Magnus,” I say petting him on the head. “I better be going. See ya later Jessica!” I walk out of the Pokémon Center and into my room. I close the door behind me and lock it. I lean against the door and sigh. It had been a tough day and I realized I had no clue what time it was. I glance at my watch and notice the time says 12:00 P.M.
“It’s only noon!”
“No. It’s much later here. We have a completely different time system so that watch is useless now.
“Oh,” I reply disappointed. “Is there anyway I can get it back to its maker?”
“Well… I guess you can do it in the morning. Your training is done so there is no reason that you can see them.”
“Great. I’d like to see him tomorrow.”
“Okay. It’s going to have to be early because that’s a good time for them to come.”
“Oh, okay!”
“We should go to bed now so we can get up early.”
“Okay.” I change into my nightclothes and hop into bed. Vulpix and Magnus come close and I hug them. “Hey Magnus,” I say while thinking.
“Yeah Jewel. What is it?”
“Why can’t I go back to Earth?”
“Because if you go back to Earth you’ll die because you too used to the air. Your lungs change to accommodate the thin air and if you go back your lungs won’t be able to handle the amount of air.”
“Oh. Well then how can people visit here and be able to go back?”
“Because they’re not up here long enough for they’re lungs to change.
“So I can never go back?”
“That’s right, or at least until we make equipment to help you get used to breathing on Earth again.”
“Okay, I’ve kept up us a little too late considering that we have to get early,” I reply as I lay my head down. Vulpix and Magnus come closer and I close my eyes. In about five minutes I am sleeping peacefully.

*Yawn! * I stretch and slide out of my bed and change into and black T-shirt and my nice loose blue jeans. I look around for Vulpix but I see her no where in sight.
“Vulpix? Where are you?” I ask into the room. She peeks out of my empty backpack and I walk over and pick her up. I look over at my bed to see Magnus still sleeping peacefully. I have him return to his pokéball. I look at Vulpix who is now smiling. I bet she was getting jealous of me having another fire pokémon and paying so much attention to it. I walk to a room labeled Meeting Room for Friends from Earth. In that room there is a counter and tons of chairs. Also it has a door that says arriving and another one on the opposite wall labeled leaving. I walked up to the counter and got them to bring the Professor here.
“It’ll be about ten minutes.”
“Thank you!” I walk away from the counter and sit into one of the chairs near the entrance door. After at least ten minutes of brushing Vulpix’s hair the door next to me opens and a tall person walks through it.
