Chapter 19

I walk up to the door like I had done so many times before coming home from school. I stretch my hand and grasp the doorknob. Slowly I turn it and I push open the door. As I sneak in the house a delightful smell hits my nose. I quietly look in kitchen where my mom normally is and see her hovering over a boiling pot while adding various spices. She glances over and sees me standing in the doorway. Her arms fly up into the air and she starts to shriek with joy. Quickly her arms are around me and she starts saying how much she misses me.
“Mom. I didn’t come to visit and talk about what’s happened to me.”
She pulls me away from her and looks me straight in the eyes. “Then why did you come?”
“I came to say good-bye.”
“What? What do you mean good-bye? You just got here!”
“Well I came to tell you something.”
“Okay, let’s go sit in the living room.” She puts a hand around my lower back and ushers me to the living room. She sits down on the couch and I sit next to her. She says, “Now what do you want to tell me?”
“Well. I’ve found something that I want to do but if I do it I can’t come back to earth. I have a week to say good-bye and then I have to leave. I came here to say good-bye first and once I say good-bye to everyone else I’ll come back here for the rest of my time.”
“You don’t need to come back. In a week I know there will be so much that you will want to do. Just stay here tonight then you can go on your way.” I throw my arms around her neck. “Jewel, I’m going to miss you so much! For exactly what reason are you going?”
“Well I found this pokémon and he needed a trainer and I was chosen to pick if I wanted to or not.”
“What’s the pokémon’s name?”
“I believe it was Magnus.”
“Really? I’ve never heard of it.”
“Well, I’m going to be it’s master and then after awhile you’ll be able to see it.”
“Great. I think you should eat then get some rest. Also that Vulpix is so cute!”
“She’s my best friend and I don’t know what I’d do without her.” I glance down at Vulpix and lightly pet her on the head. I then follow Mom into the kitchen and sit at the table.
“Where’s Dad?” I calmly ask.
“He had to go on a business trip. You know how his work can get.”
“Yeah, I remember. I just wish he could be here so I could say my farewell and leave happy.” I say disappointed
“Do you want to leave now?”
“Could I?” I ask uncertainly.
“Yeah. Oh course darling.”
“I guess I’ll leave now. I’ve got a lot to do.”
“Okay,” she says, her voice quivering. “Good-bye and good luck.” A tear slips down her face.
“Bye Mom. I’ll miss you!” I turn and head out the door. I find a pokéball and pull it out of my beltpack. I throw it softly and Gengar appears. I get on him and we take off towards Vermilion City. In about an hour we are at the front door of my cabin. I open the door and lock it behind me. Vulpix awakes from a light sleep and is happy to find itself in the cabin. It jumps onto its favorite chair and falls asleep once again. I let all of my pokémon out and they seem to enjoy being out together. Most of them lie down and silently talk to one another but a few start to sleep. My plan as of now is to stay here for my remaining time and try to relax.
The door opens and the trainer comes in. “You’re here? I thought you left awhile ago.”
“I did leave but I’m back.”
“Oh. Did you pay for the cabin?”
“Yeah, it’s all paid now. By the way what’s your name? Mine’s Jewel.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you in the first place but anyways it’s Herold,” he replies.
“It’s okay. I’ve just come here to rest. You can let your pokémon come out if you want to. I’ll be in the room upstairs on the left if you need me.” I walk upstairs and into the room and lay down. I’m overwhelmed with exhaustion so I fall asleep right away.

I awake with an ear-splitting yawn. I look around to see a mix of fire and electric pokémon before me a weird looking trainer. “Where’s Jewel!” I scream at him! He looks back at me like he doesn’t understand. I don’t need him! I’ll find Jewel on my own! I walk around the downstairs nudging all of the doors open but unfortunately I don’t find her. I walk up the big steps to the up stairs. I try a door but it is closed. I scream at her to let me in but all I hear is faint breathing. I walk back downstairs and get Electrabuzz to help me open the door. He opens it for me so I tip toe inside. I pull myself onto the bed as Electrabuzz closes the door. I lay down next to Jewel and slowly fall asleep.

Chapter 20

I’m relaxing in one of my chairs with Vulpix talking to Herold when I decide I need to leave the cabin. I have all of my pokémon return to their pokéballs and I get up with Vulpix and we walk outside. I let Vulpix walk beside me as we head into town. I glance around and decide to get some lunch. I buy a hot dog and tons of pokémon food then I sit on a small metal bench in the middle of a clearing surrounded by trees. I release all of my pokémon and give them each some food as I eat. I finish and begin to think of Magnus and the world above. Vulpix nudges up against my arm so I begin to pet her head. After all of my pokémon were done I had them return and then I stand up with Vulpix in my arms. I notice a small pokémon walking by and I point my watch at it. It says,

Jigglypuff – The Balloon Pokémon
This pokémon uses its eyes to enrapture
its foe. It then sings a pleasant melody
that lulls the foe to sleep.
It evolves with a Moon Stone.

“Wow! A Jigglypuff,” I exclaim gazing at the pink pokémon. Vulpix jumps out of my arms and onto the ground in front of it. The Jigglypuff screams in terror but calms down as see realizes that Vulpix would not hurt it. They start to talk and after about ten minutes I become angry.
“Vulpix, let’s move it!” Vulpix starts to walk towards me and then the Jigglypuff starts to cry. I walk over to the Jigglypuff and say, “Do you want to join us?” The Jigglypuff looks at my Vulpix who then translates what I had just said.
“Jiggly!” it says happily.
“Okay Jiggly.” I take out a empty pokéball and tap it on Jiggly’s head. Jiggly is sucked into it and I stare at the pokéball and smile. I put it in the belt pack with the other pokéballs and walk back towards town. I walk towards the police office and inside. I get my bike from the officer’s custody and push it outside. Next I walk to the Pokémon mart and sell it for 500 kintes and walk out smiling. I notice my two Meowths and tell them what is going to happen and they decide to come with me. I then walk back to the cabin and there I decide to spend the rest of my time.

Now it’s almost time for me to leave. I look up at the sky and slowly I start to lift up off the ground. A tear slips down my cheek as I look at the world slowly getting farther away. I call out, “Good-bye world. I’ll miss you and your wonders more than anything!” I head off to the structure in the sky with Vulpix on my back. In an hour we are in the huge structure with the small fire creature approaching us. I notice that he much resembles a small human but instead he’s made of fire.
We get inside and walk down a hall as Magnus says, “Let’s go start training right now.” I don’t disagree so Vulpix and I follow him into a large room with a very high-tech machine in the middle. “Take off your backpack and put it and your pokémon over there.” I do as he says and then get into the machine. A device comes around my head and a small screen appears before me. A movie starts and it shows how a world much like ours was destroyed and how only a few pokémon survived. It tells of how they came here and made this structure here in the sky and how the only thing they wish for is a great trainer who will take care of them. When the movie is over Magnus walks over to me and press a button which takes the machine off my head.
“Magnus, is there any other structures here? I mean can we travel around or is this the only structure around here?” I walk over and pick up my pokémon and my backpack.
“Actually we call them cities and yes there are more than one. There are five in fact, all of them huge.”
“Great. What are we to do now?”
“Well. I guess your ready enough so follow me.” I curiously follow him of the room and into one right down the hall. This room puzzled me as for its purpose. A plain room except for a weird device in one corner on the left and a different one in the corner on the right. “Get in that one,” he says pointing to the on in the left. I walk over to it and place my bag and pokéballs next to the machine. I stand in the machine waiting for Magnus to do something. “Okay now. I’m going to turn on the machine. It is virtual reality so you will do what you want to do in the place. It’s to help you get used to being in the sky while showing you where everything is. We will do this for a few days before we move on.” I look down at the pokémon as he flicks a switch. Immediately the machine starts to run and I see a vast empty sky in front of me. I float around and finally figure out how to move. I get a good idea of where things are and how to get to them. I’m exploring a vast area when the machine is turned off. I step down from the machine and look around for Magnus. I look at my feet to see Vulpix and I realize that she was the one whom turned off the machine. I pick her and my backpack up. I walk out of the room and find my old room, which is now occupied by a big, strange eight-legged creature. I walk back to the room and decide to wait for Magnus there. After about ten minutes he comes in and is surprised to see me out of the machine.
“Why are you out?”
“My Vulpix accidentally turned off the machine not that long ago.”
“Oh. I think we should eat and then get rest for tomorrow.”
“Okay,” I reply walking with the short pokémon. I stop abruptly and say, “Magnus, would you like me to carry you?”
He looks up in disbelief and then his face changes to joy. “I’d love to!” My Vulpix moves to my back as I bend over to pick up Magnus. My arms close around the small pokémon and I lift him up into my arms. He joyfully tells me the directions to the food hall and triumphantly rides in my arms down there. He moves to my back along side Vulpix as I get food for everyone of my pokémon, which really adds up. I listen to Magnus give directions to our now permanent room. I follow the directions and finally find the room. I’m happy to find that this room is much bigger with more furniture. I walk in, close the door, and let all my pokémon come out. They all sit around talking and eating and well so do I. Magnus and I are holding a nice conversation and are enjoying our food very much. Suddenly he brings up something that Magnus says has to be done right after we’re eating. He wants to be caught in a pokéball. We quickly finish and I get an empty pokéball out. I enlarge it and hold it towards Magnus. He touches it and is sucked in. I grin at the pokéball knowing that I’ve just caught a very rare fire pokémon. My thoughts stray from that and I begin to frown at the pokéball. Because of this pokémon my life is completely different and that it will never be the same. I sigh as I call all my pokémon back and put the pokéballs away. I let Magnus out of his pokéball because even if I had got me into all of this and I shouldn’t break my promise that I made to him. I lay down with Vulpix and Magnus next to me and fall asleep where I start to dream about the possibilities ahead.
