McCartney and the Band take on the Unplugged Challenge!

Early in 1991, Paul received a phone call from MTV to take the Unplugged Challenge - play to an intercontinental television audience acoustically, which is to say without the accustomed safety net of elaborate staging, special effects and, most alarming of all, deafening multi-megawatts of electricity. But, buttering them up decided to go even FURTHER than that!......
Paul: "Something we realised on the Unplugged was that the audience loved the mistakes! "We Can Work it Out", I just couldn't remember the stupid words! On MTV they showed me stopping once but, it happened 3 times at least. It was all right though, the audience was just giggling away, Naa-Na, he's got it all Wro-ong! It was a lovely show that we did! I really loved doing it ALOT! It was one of the best times I've ever Had! My Philosophy about a Band is, If you can Play your stuff in a Pub, you’re a good band. It's very old Fashioned but, it seems to me like an earthly philosophy that just might Last!"
The Band Members Include:
Paul McCartney
Linda McCartney
Hamish Stuart
Robbie McIntosh
Paul "Wix" Wickens
Blair Cunningham

Thanks for the Help Pennyln14! Thanks Claire! –Macca818

George’s Battle with Lung Cancer
By Hoops3388
On June 28, 1998, George Harrison revealed to the press that he had lung cancer. He also revealed that he had the lumps in his throat removed. He said, quote, "I am not going to die on you folks just yet." Just after his surgery he said, "some times when you say the word cancer it means it will end in misery. That is not always the case" He also stated he got cancer from "smoking purley and cigarettes." He says he stopped 10 years ago, then started, and stopped in 1997.

GOOD LUCK TO GEORGE AND HIS FAMILY!

News Extras: Anybody going to Liverpool soon? (I’ve been there once when I was little and it was a cute place) If so, then this is definitely one place to check out!

Paul’s Boyhood Home Now Open!
By Pickwick5

On July 29, 1998, the working class house located at no.20 Forthlin Road will be opened to the public. But this isn’t just any old house, this is the boyhood home of Paul McCartney where little Paul probably wrote some songs, listened to is records, and enjoyed other childhood fun.
The house has been fully restored with furniture and other accessories by the National Trust. It even has lavender growing outside which Paul used to pick and bring inside. The 50s style, three-bedroom home was built in 1952 and is the first building acquired by the National Trust to especially appeal to 20th century popular culture. In 1955 when his parents rented it, Paul was 13, and they stayed in the house until 1964. “My mum and dad would have found it very hard to believe that the house is now a National Trust property, but they would be chuffed (pleased) about it and so am I,” said Paul.
It will be open from July 29th to December 12 on Wednesday through Saturday. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children, and only six groups of fourteen people per day will be allowed so tickets must be bought in advance. Since Paul is still mourning the death of his beloved Linda, he didn’t attend the preview.
“You can sense the atmosphere. You can feel as though you are going back in time. You almost expect one of them to walk through the door, you know, and say hello,” states John Halliday, the property’s caretaker who lives in the house.

Vertical Man--Ringo’s Latest
By Hoops3388

Ringo Starr’s next solo album will be coming out August 10th. He also has a single, "La De Da" coming out on the 3rd. On the following tracks on Ringo's new album "Vertical Man," there will being the guest names announced. On "Drift Away," singer and guitarist, Tom Petty, will be singing lead vocal, and Aerosmith’s singer, Steven Tyler, will be drumming and singing back round vocal on that track. "What In the World" will be sung by former Beatle, Paul McCartney, and legendary Eagles’ guitarist, Joe Walsh, will be playing guitar on that track. Alanis Morissette, Steven Tyler, Joe Walsh, and Stone Temple Pilots’ singer, Scott Weiland, will all be contributing on the track "Mine Field.” George Harrison will be on the track "King of Broken Hearts,” and Ringo did a remake of the Beatles’ classic, "Love Me Do," with Steven Tyler on harmonica and himself on drums. Also, on the title song, "Vertical Man," one of my personal favorites, Ozzy Osbourne will be performing. FOR NOW, THAT’S THE SCOOP ON RINGO’S NEW ALBUM! SEE YA!!!!

Beatles? Who the…?
By Veg987

I was listening to Paul Harvey a few months ago (you know, that old news guy who’s on the radio everywhere in the U.S.A.?), and he reported that this teenage girl was given a Beatles album for her birthday. Well, this poor deprived girl had no idea who the Beatles were, and she said "What is this lame band?" Little did she know, that the Beatles were the fathers of modern rock and roll!

Song Lyrics

Lovely Rita

Lovely Rita meter maid.
Lovely Rita meter maid.
Lovely Rita meter maid.
Nothing can come between us,
When it gets dark I tow your heart away.
Standing bye a parking meter,
When I caught a glimpse of Rita,
Filling in a ticket in her little white book.
In a cap she looked Much older,
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man.
Lovely Rita meter maid,
May I inquire discreetly,
When are you free,
To take some tea with me.
Took her out and tried to win her,
Had a laugh and over dinner,
Told her I would really like to see her again,
Got the bill and Rita paid it,
Took her home I nearly made it,
Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two,
Oh, Lovely Rita meter maid,
Where would I be without you,
Give us a wink a make me think of you.

“Beatle Juice” Album Reviews
By Hoops3388

Beatles For Sale
This is their 4th album. This album is good and they do alot of cover songs such as a great version of "Rock & Roll Music" and seven others. As in alot of the Beatles’ albums, the first two tracks are (in my opinion) the best, with "No Reply," and "I’m a Loser.”

Help!
This, I think, is their best album, with the classic tracks, "Help!," "Ticket to Ride," and “Yesterday.” You just can’t describe the greatness of this incredible album. Go out and get it.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
In my opinion, this is their second best album. It starts with the two best songs on the album: the title track and then “With a Little Help from My Friends. The rest of the album is slow, and it ends with the title track reprise.

Quotes of the Fab 4
By Hoops3388 and Pickwick5

The Beatles said lots of great things, and a lot of great things were also said about them. Here are a few:

“Playing without ringo is like driving a car on three wheels.” –George Harrison

"I was lucky enough to be surrounded by three frustrated musicians, and each of them thought I was an octopus. They forgot that I only had two hands and two feet. I remember John once coming and playing a record and saying, ‘Ringo I’d just love you to play this.’ And I said, “But John, there’s two drummers on that!” –Ringo Starr

“The guitar’s all very well, John, but you’ll never make a living out of it.” –John’s Aunt Mimi

“Ringo Starr had a beard and was grown up, he was also known to have a Zephyr Zodiac!” –Paul McCartney

“You’re a swine.” –John Lennon

Press: “Why are your speaking voices different from your singing voices?”
George: “We don’t have a musical background.”

Press: “Will you sing something for us?”
All four Beatles: “No!”
Press: “Can you sing at all?”
Ringo: “No, we need money first.”
