The Beatles, a British rock band, are one of my favorite musical groups. The group is made up of four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Starkey (known as Ringo Starr). All four of them are from the city of Liverpool in England, which is where they got their start and which is now known as "the Birthplace of the Beatles."
Although the group was first formed in 1960, it had already been in the making for several years. It all began on July 6th, 1957, when Paul McCartney watched John Lennon perform with his band, the Quarry Men. Paul was later asked to join the group, after demonstrating his guitar-playing abilities. In 1958, Paul introduced George Harrison to the group. Although he was a bit younger, George proved to be an excellent guitarist and was also asked to join. The group later acquired Ringo Starr, their drummer, in 1962, shortly before recording their debut single, "Love Me Do."
Throughout their recording career, the Beatles released 37 singles, 13 albums, and 3 major films. The group officially split in 1970. Each member continued to perform and record music of their own and with other groups. Sadly, in 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed my Mark Chapman, a disturbed fan, in New York City on December 8th. Since his death, the remaining three Beatles have banded together to create works commemorating the group, such as the three Beatle Anthology CDs, and the eight Beatle Anthology videos.
Even though the Beatles arent together as a group anymore, and even though I wasnt alive at the time when they were around, they are still one of my all-time favorite bands, because their music is so different throughout their career together. Each album is a new adventure, promising excellent music that was and is still treasured today. I also feel that the Beatles made a great impact on music of their day, by presenting the world with daring new styles and ways to play. I strongly believe that if it werent for the influence of the Beatles and their music, we wouldnt have some of the great music that we have today.
