Info on the Beatle scene

Four Lads From Liverpool
That’s what they were, just four lads from a small town in England named Liverpool. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Best. Yep, that’s them. It all started out when a friend of Paul’s took him to see a skiffle band one day. When they got there someone up onstage was singing strumming a guitar. He was John Lennon. Paul was amazed at how good he was. He couldn’t remember all of the words to the songs, but what he didn’t know, he mumbled in other words for instead. John was starting a skiffle band. Paul’s friend introduced him, and Paul asked if he could join the band. John asked him what exactly could he do. Paul sat down, took up a guitar, and sang and played. John was impressed, and this kid knew the words. So that’s how it started. Later Paul introduced a young kid by the name of George Harrison to John. John doubted him at first, but finally, on the top of a double-decker bus, riding around the city at night, George auditioned, and played every note and sang every note just right. He was in. Eventually they came to audition at a local radio station, trying to win prize money. Unfortunately, John had lost his guitar, but they trudged on anyway. The three got up in front of those judges, and John just sort of put his arms around Paul and George’s shoulders as he sang, for he didn’t have a guitar. They didn’t win, but they got one of their most helpful hints ever. A judge said, "But you’ve got no drums!," they simply replied, "Uh, err, the guitar keeps the beat." Still, they knew they needed a drummer, but they were few and far between. Finally, they found Pete Best. They kept him all up until they made their first album, when he was fired for Ringo Starr.

(Oh, by the way! I got my info from the Beatle anthology movies, with a little help from my Dad.)
