The Pocket Pikachu arrived in North America around November 2nd. The small little virtual Pikachu game is quite unique from other Tamagotchi or virtual pets. It includes the function of a pedometre, which has made a hit on the market in Japan, a very big one, since the release of Tamagotchi. It's a companion, alarm clock and virtual pet in one.

The casing is in the shape of a yellow game boy, following the one of Pikachu. You can make friends with him by giving him gifts, and see cute bearings of him on the small liquid crystal display. The Pocket Pikachu was released by Nintendo on March 27 1998 in Japan, which was in the news even before the release.

Game shops and other different stores which stocked products of Pokémon, and a convenience chain store Lawson had the ordering systems. Orders of the product poured in on them, and they were fully booked almost in a week in Lawson, still having a number of inquiries. They resume orders on the day the games are put on the market, but they were sold out in the midnight of the day.

As mentioned earlier, the game has a function of a pedometre. The more you walk, the better you can get along with Pikachu and the more "points" you get. According to the number of steps you've taken, you can save electricity (in watts), which would be given to Pikachu. And, moreover, you can earn much more watts if you play a slot machine, one of entertaining elements of the game. If you've managed to tame Pikachu, he could make cute gestures for you, such as playing blocks, riding a toy car, licking ice creams and more. A fun way of seeing his daily life through a day.

Don't disturb Pikachu while he's sleeping or ignore him too long because he'll get angry at you. To get him happy again, just give him lots of watts and that should do it. He doesn't die or anything but he'll get mad at you if you ignore him for too long. The Pocket Pikachu sells for about $15-$20 in the U.S. and $25-$30 in Canada.
