When Annuriel woke he was outside the ruins with Stormtalon and Arvael. At once he set about preparing his defences. He cried out into the night sky to Kadon, challenging him to battle once more. From wherever he was out at sea, the Warlord heard the challenge through his shamans, and at once set off to Ulthuan to fight it. In the imperial year of 2133 he returned back to Ulthuan and besiged the ruins of Windrock once more. On the sixteenth day of the season of frost in the six hundred and eighty forth day of the reign of Bel-Hathor the Sage, the two armies met on the ruins of Windrock.
Arrows darkened the sky as the Chaos army approached. Many were felled, but for each that was slain there were two to take his place. The Eagles of the Stormtalon tribe and the Shore Riders of Ellyrion assaulted the Chaos flanks, throwing them into confusion. Stromtalon himself dispatched Thorog Blackaxe, the marauder cheiftein commanding the right flank. As the Chaos army turned to repel this threat, Annuriel, mounted on a swift elven steed, led a cohort of Silver Helm knights supported by chariots into the enemies front line. The tidal wave of steel that assaulted Kadon's forces was too much, and many of the regiments broke and fled, only to be run down by the swift elven cavalry.
Kadon's sorcerers chanted magical rituals to summon the Daemons of Chaos, and the army was strengthened by five score. They then sent bolts of burning black energy into the elven ranks, but they were dispelled by the magics of Arvael and his followers. The daemons of Slaanesh crashed into the High Elves, and the Shore Riders of Ellyrion were slowly surrounded and overwhelmed. Mutated warriors of Chaos pulled down the proud charioteers of Tiranoc, elven knights dressed in gleaming silver armour pierced the hearts of the marauders from the northern lands. Arrows darkened the sky once more and the followers of Chaos died in droves. A small group of feroucious Dragon Ogres, enraged and pumped up into a blood frenzy by the lightning which danced around them, charged into the elven ranks, creating an orgy of blood and death. Annuriel himself slew the Ogre leader Badgrob Bonecruncher, and his bodyguard of knights dispacthed the Ogres of Chaos in a fine elven show of arms. The silver warhorns of the elves called again and the High Elf infantry marched into the fray under another hail of white feathered shafts.
The Daemons, led by T'zaarkan the Chaos Spawn assaulted the left flank of the elven infantry, but were repelled by the strong discipline of the elven spearmen under the command of Loranion Brightspear and none of them survived. Arvael Hawktounge aided the elves with protective and inspirational spells, and blasted Kadon's followers with fiery curses and destruvtive spells. Kadon Blackheart and his elite guard cut a swathe through the elven cavalry, and it was here that the two generals met.
It was like a replay of when Windrock was destroyed, Annuriel versus Kadon, elf versus warlord, the avenger versus the destroyer. Bright longsword clashed against black halberd as the two immortal gods duelled. All action ceased as the marauders of Thrakan Redgleam lay down their arms as did their combatants, the Dawn Blade spearman regiment. The two duelling commanders, Loranion Brightspear and Kaarnè Elfslayer ceased fighting to watch their generals fight on the tops of the ruins. Arvael stopped exchanging death spells with the Chaos sorcerers to watch his leige fight. Stormtalon and his tribe stopped tearing apart the mutating warriors of Slaanesh. Even the frenzied Dragon Ogres stopped their slaying and lowered their axes, wondering whether there lives were finally up.
For two whole days Annuriel and Kadon fourght, neither gaining the upper hand, forever seeking an opening. The combatants below sat down and camped out around the ruins, shouting encouragement to their lords. Slowly, wearily, Annuriel started to wear Kadon down and drove him to the edge of the ruins. In one last beserk fury he charged at Kadon and drove Fangblade deep into the Warlords head, slaying him instantly. Kadon dropped his halberd and his lifeless body fell from the ruins to the ground below, just as Annuriel's father Artaith had done. It was justice.
And with that the forces of Ulthuan overcame the foe which was Slaanesh. Loranion Brightspear finally slew his combatant Kaanè Elfslayer with a swift thrust to the neck. Arvael succeeded in reducing the sorcerers to ashes. Annuriel stepped down from the ruins and led the final charge. The Chaos army, leaderless, broke and fled westwards, into the sea. Annuriel's army had been successful in seeing off an almost invincible foe, but had taken great losses.
Only one hundred of the thousand warriors that began the battle remained. Loranion Brightspear and Thandol Swiftthrust survived to command their regiments of the Dawn Blades and the Dusk Blades, Arvael remained as the only surviving mage, and Curenion Longfletch would command the archer regiments from now on. Only eight of the silver helms which accompanied Annuriel into battle survived and they would form the Celstial Knights, veterans of a thousand battles and personal bodyguard to Prince Annuriel of Cothique. Out of the the Shore Riders of Ellyrion only six remained, and they were led into battle by Ascarnil Horsefriend. The two chariots which broke through the Chaos line and charged them in the rear again and were responsible for breaking the mighty Badgutt Troll tribe were named the chariots of fire and they would always follow the Celestial Knights in the charge. Stormtalon and Thunderwing were the only Eagles which remained from the once mighty Stormtalon tribe, as they gave their lives fighting evil. Much blood had been shed that day, and it took three weeks to clear the battlefield of the dead. Thus is the price of war.
