When you get out of your house after the extremely long movie, you will need to go to the forest training center on the top of the hill to the left of your house. When you get to the top of the hill there is a hole in the wall. Crawl through the hole. In the room that you are in now, there is the Kokiri Sword. Race the big rock (an easily won competition) until you reach the turning point. Go right. You will see a chest, you don't need a key for it (you don't need a key for any chests in the game). Go up to the chest and press A. After recieving the Kokiri Sword, you need to equip it, so go to the menu screen and hit left. This will take you to the equip screen, where you will be able to equip many of Link's various tunics, swords, and shields that you will recieve throughout the game. Now exit the room.
You might want to train with the sword a bit before you go to see the Deku Tree just to get a hang of it's abilities. To do this, there is a little fenced in enclosure with bushes and rocks to practice on. There are also a few guiding signs that give you the basics of sword tactics.
You need forty rupees, so start slicing bushes and walking through grass. You can find rupees this way. You can also get a blue rupee by jumping over the three platforms going to the Kokiri Shop. Blue rupees are worth a hefty five green rupees. When you have forty rupees, go to the Kokiri Shop. You need to buy the Deku Sheild in here.
Go talk to Mido, the guy that won't let you see the Deku Tree. He will say, "Even with a sword and sheild, a wimp is still a wimp. Geez! How did you get to be the favorite of the Deku Tree and Saria?". Go through the tunnel and to the Deku Tree.
Click on Ghomha to go to The Deku Tree.
