Getting out of Kokiri Forest
After the tragic death of the Deku tree, he gives you the Kokiri emerald, a.k.a. the spiritual stone of the forest. When you are still a child, the object of the game is to collect all the spiritual stones, of which there are three. After he gives you the stone, the screen will white out, and you'll appear outside the tunnel leading to the Deku tree with Mido blocking your way out. You'll have to talk to him to get himto let you pass. He will just blame the mighty tree's death on you (he doesn't seem too nice does he?) and then leave.
The only exit from the forest is on the other side of the village, so start walking. The exit is actually a short tunnel that is black inside. Ignore the guy and sign that say not to go out of the forest, because it's only the Kokiri that can't leave the forest, and you are a legendary Hylian.
When you begin to walk across the bridge, Saria will appear behind you. She will bestow a gift to you, an ocarina. This is the first of two ocarinas that you will get during the game. After giving it to you, she will say a short speech stating how much she'll miss you and how she knows that you're different from the rest of the Kokiri. When she is finished, you'll leave.
You now have two options. You can continue on to Hyrule field, or you can go back into the forest to get upgrades and a new song. I would suggest going back into the forest because it doesn't take long. If you aren't going to get the upgrades, then skip down two sections. If you are, then continue on reading.

Upgrades
All of the upgrades are in the Lost Woods, so climb up the ledge to your left, scale the vines on th wall, and follow the short path to the tunnel leading to this confusing abode of few creatures.
The first upgrade you should get is for your slingshot. To get this, go to the first room to your right. You will see a little cirular disk of wood hanging from a tree trunk. You have to shoot this dead center three times IN A ROW, but it's easy enough. Try shooting it once, and then adjusting your aim closer to the center. Once a big 100 pops up from the target, leave the slingshot in the same position and shoot two more times. There should be no reason why this wouldn't hit dead center again. When you complete this task, a deku scrub will pop out of the tree and congratulate you. Then he will give you a bigger bullet bag. This bag holds forty seeds instead of just thirty.
The second upgrade is further on, but in the same room. Just jump down, or climb the ladder down to the main part of the room. Look to the right and you will see two tree stumps. Climb onto the smaller one and two funny guys will appear with flutes. Pull out your ocarina (remember to equip it), and they'll ask you to play with them. Say yes. This is actually a memory game. All you have to do is follow their song on your ocarina and when they stop, they'll give you something. At the end of each session, they'll ask you to play again. Say yes until they give you a piece of heart. Each time you play again, they'll make the length of the song longer and the actual song itself will be different. You will have to play with them three times to get the piece of heart, but it's worth it. For every four pieces of heart you get, you get a new heart container.
The third and final upgrade is further on. Climb the ladder to the top of the cliff and turn right. In the next room, go right, then left, then straight, then left, then right. The owl will be in one of these rooms, and he will tell you to follow the music. What he means is that in a tunnel, if the music volume increases, then you are going the right way. When you exit the last room, the sreen will black out and take you to the Sacred Forest Meadow.
In here, go to the gate in front of you. A wolf will pop out of the ground to the left of you. Z target it, and hold up your sheild with R. It will try to slash you but this can't hurt you while you have your shield is up. Try to stay far enough away so that when the wolf strikes, it's force will carry it around in a semi-circle. Pull out your sword and slash it. A quicker way to kill it is to have your sword already out and hit A while it's back is turned. This will do a more powerful attack than a regular slash, and will kill it in one hit.
When the wolf is killed, the gate will open, and you can go through. In the maze your first turn should be to the right. continue this way and then go left at the next turn. You will see a Deku Scrub here, but this one needs to be killed to get it out of the way. Z target it and hold up your shield. It will chuck three nuts at you. The first will hit the second and both will explode. The third will bounce off your shield and hit the scrub and it will jump out of it's hole. Pull your sword out and kill it (it only takes one hit), but it might not be easily caught. Just run after it until you can get it, but don't run too far. Wait until it tries to come back to it's hole if it gets away and then kill it. Turn left again and along this path you will see another Deku Scrub. Kill this one in similar fashion, then turn right. Turn right again, and then turn left through the grass. Kill the Deku Scrub to your right. Turn left and swim through the water to another left turn. Turn right and go up the staircase to a pair of Deku Scrubs. Kill these and pass to the stairs. Climd these and you will be in an open place.
Here you will meet Saria. Talk to her, and she will ask you if you want to learn a song. Say yes and follow her beat. After this, she'll tell you what the song does and bid you adu.
Leave here and climb the ladder at the bottom of the steps. Jump across the spaces and you'll end up at the beginning of the maze. Leave here and then leave the forest altogether. It's time to meet the princess!

On to The Princess!
Once you are in Hyrule Feild go along the entrance to the forest until you find the owl. I'm not sure what his name is, but I think it is Bornu or Bonru. Whatever it is, he'll be referred to as the owl from here on out. He'll tell you you have many hardships ahead and whole load of crap like that. It's wortless so just press B and you'll skip it all. He'll ask you if you got all that or something of that sort and you can hit yes or no. He'll retell everything to you if you hit the top answer whether it is yes or no. It will be like this for every speech he ever says.
After his rambling, go along the dirt path until you see a castle with a mountain across a bridge on the right. Go into the castle. This actually isn't a castle, but a town. Go talk Malon the little girl with red hair standing by the well. Now go to the opposite side of where you entered from and to the castle. Malon should be standing near when you come in, but if she's not, wait around a little while. I think she may only be there at night. When she does get there, talk to her and she will give you an egg. Don't equip this yet. Wait until morning and then you will hear a rooster crow. This is the egg hatching. Attack the tree in the corner and a spider called a gold skulltula will fall. Kill it and get the coin it leaves. Now go back and climb the vines on the wall where Malon is. Go all the way to the bridge start crossing it at half way jump off if the guard sees you he'll throw you out. Go along the path and when the hill isn't very steep go up. Now cross the valley to a wall that has rocks sticking out of it. Climb up them. Jump into the river. Float along until you reach the corner. Climb the little hill and go to the right to the fat guy sleeping there. Show him the chicken if it hatched already and he'll wake up. Talk to him and he'll run away. Move the two boxes to where one would fall off and the other one would fall on the other. Jump on the boxes now and from there jump to the little trickle of water. Crawl in the hole. Avoid the gaurds from seeing you and cross through the little tunnel and talk to the princess and say yes to all her questions. Impa will teach you zeldas lullabuy, take you out of the castle, and leave. Go to the left and go up the stairs.
