Previously, on Justice Union...
"Gimme all your loot! Or you're shot!" A masked man with pistol in hand demanded from one of the receptionists.
"Pardon me, but you were in my way," -Archer
"Now see how easy that was? Why don't you ask for things more politely?" -Archer
"Wh...where am I?!" -Archer
"You've been recruited to help us fight crime." -Panther
"Warning! Warning! security breach. Emergency lockdown procedure activated. Warning! Warning!" -Computer
"Someone broke Plasma Wisp out of the detainment room." -Goldman
"Eaglet Girl, get down there now." -Goldman
"Just as I feared, it's an ambush." -Goldman
"Psychocess, you take the team down there" -Goldman
"And we...constitute... the Physics Five!"
(Stargirl crushes a sliding boulder aimed at Archer) "I suppose I should thank you for that one..."
"We're just getting warmed up!" -Friction Man
New Justice Union#4 - A Lesson in Physics
"What's the matter Friction Man, can't take care of yourself? Does Gravity Girl have to watch your back all day!?" Kevin taunted his temperamental opponent.
Friction Man snorted in frustration. "No, no she don't! Gravity Girl, let me handle him!" He cried, gliding toward the bowman. Kevin thought to himself silently, "Whew, got one of them out of the way. Maybe I can blind this guy by his rage."
Archer then tried aiming his bow, but lost his grip once again as the bow fell to the floor. He stooped to pick his weapon up, but Friction Man quickly glided toward him, forcing his evasion to the left. However, as chance would have it, he began to slide to, and he struggled as he continued to fall after attempting to get afoot.
"How about a little soccer, arrow-boy?!" He said, kicking Kevin with his slippery feet. Kevin was kicked around, skidding in every direction that Friction Man sent him. After some time he would stop, and Friction Man would strike him once again, continuing the ongoing loop.
Eaglet Girl tried frantically to snatch her opponent who zipped each way with her super-fast speed. "Darn woman! Stay still!" She cried, swiping her fist at Kinetica. But she soon was met with a rupture to her back that sent her reeling to the ground.
She looked behind her, and in the air was Gravity Girl, with arm outstretched once again. "How did you like my Gravity Blast? Pretty sweet, huh?" she taunted. "Would you like some more?" But then, she as well was hit by a blast, that sent her into the leftward direction, for Cywind had blasted a beam of her own...a beam of wind.
Soon they began chasing each other in the air, dodging and blocking each other's blasts, and struggling to make a hit.
Stargirl faced off with the ever-changing Matterman, who at that moment, looked to be quite normal. But soon he was able to shape-shift himself into a solid, rock-like structure. "Solids, Liquids, Gases, you name it! I can be it! Remember little girl, matter can neither be created nor destroyed!" He warned Stargirl.
Upon hearing this, Kevin looked toward Matterman, and something in his brain sparked in realization. "So that's how he was able to do it... get into and escape from the tower undetected...he must've turned into a gas..." he concluded.
Matterman chased her slamming his fist into the ground, but Stargirl easily dodged and soared above him, striking him in the back. Matterman stumbled onto his knees, and turne his head backward. Once more, Stargirl thrust her arm forward, but missed, for his change of state was much too rapid. Gas spread throughout the air as she punched through the matter.
Her eyes widened at his stark, maneuverability. But soon choked wildly as the gas began to envelope her head, clogging her breathing. "How bout I just suffocate your lungs!" Matterman threatened, as his gaseous state oozed into her lungs. "Maybe I'll turn into a liquid while I'm down there to speed up the process!" Stargirl choked wildly, as her lungs filled with the gas, she tried desperately, helplessly to get him out of her lungs.
Seeing a distressed heroine, Cywind quickly abandoned her battle on the double, and sent a gentle breeze to overtake the gas-turning liquid inside the young girl's lungs. She then proceeded to blow the now-liquid matter away. But Matterman was able to stop this by changing into his solid form, which then Stargirl struck down with her mighty fist.
Shockwave's fists ignited with yellow electrical energy, with soon formed into spherical balls of lightning. She outstretched both hands to strike the Plasma Wisp to bring him down, but he sent a blast of his own to block the attack.
Soon, he whipped out a new trick, as tiny creatures made of Plasma flame budded from his engulfed form, and dashed straight for shockwave. She fought desperately to strike them out before they gave her devastating burns.
Within moments, she was able to zap away the few tiny creatures that surrounded her, but it was only a diversion, for when Shockwave looked up, she was overtaken by a large Plasma Flame which assailed her backward into the grass.
As Kevin was able to get used to the frictionless sliding he had encountered, he was able to maneuver himself so that he was within close vicinity of his bow. However, observing his slight adaptation, Friction Man stopped him in his tracks once again. The Friction was quite strong to overcome, so Kevin struggled to reach his bow.
"No you don't!" Friction Man cried, sliding upon the ground toward Archer. But Kevin expected this, for at the last moment, he reached an arrow by hand, and struck it upon Friction Man before the villain could strike. This was a freezing arrow, which surrouned Friction Man with ice all around, binding him in a very cold state. "Now you're really on ice," he said to the shivering man, and stepped up upon his feet for the first time in a while.
Matterman continued to change forms at a rapid rate to confuse Stargirl. As she struck at him with her fist, he turned to gas. And by now, Stargirl knew this, so she sparked a firecraker from her palm and exploded it, scattering him in all directions. But he would always easily float to become himself once again. "Ergh! How can I beat him?!" She angrily complained. She then formed a much larger spark, gathering energy from it, but still, Matterman was able to begin a counter by liquifying himself into a wave over the girl. But using his sharp-shooting arrows, Kevin spotted the trouble and let sail a freezing treat to Matterman, which also left him ice cold.
"It's just a little repayment for before..." He said to her. "Now we're even," she replied with a smile, flew to help her comrades.
Cywind fought vigorously against the unpredictable Stargirl, who proceeded to gain the upper hand by manipulating her own gravity, and pull Cywind toward her, strike her, push her back, and repeat the process.
"Sorry if I'm..." She held out her fist for Cywind to slam into. "POUNDING..." She struck once more. "TOO HARD!" But breaking the cycle, was Stargirl who flew behind the evil villainess and struck her down with a powerful blow of the fist. "Was that too hard?" she mockingly asked the grounded Gravity Girl.
Gravity Girl retaliated by increasing the Gravity beneath Stargirl, which slammed her into the ground with a great thrash. Using all her might, she kept the strong heroine, who struggled greatly, down.
Using her wind Powers, Cywind cast a cyclonic whirlwind toward the Gravity Girl, which bound her up and squeezed tight upon her Gravitational Suit. Stargirl was released from her face-down position, and continued on to rip her fist into the metal of the suit's device, and shut down the Gravitational Manipulator once and for all.
Kinetica had her way with the grievous Eaglet Girl, who continued to be pummeled by the quick renditions of her rapid rival. Back and forth with lightning speed, she strode, striking Eaglet Girl at every turn and burning her with transferred heat energy as well.
Kevin tried shooting net arrows at the speedy assailant, but each one missed entirely. But while preoccupied with dodging Archer's arrows, Kinetica saw that Eaglet girl was nowhere in sight. She looked around the area to see where Eaglet Girl could've have gone. She then stared at Kevin Manboat. The clueless Archer shrugged his shoulders. "No...she couldn't be that quick! Not quicker than me!" Kinetica wondered in perplexity.
Stealthily and quietly came Eaglet Girl at high speeds, testing her own velocity with soaring wings. Caught off guard, Kinetica turned around slightly to see the flying heroine with fists folded together, and about to strike. With one propounding blow, Kinetica was knocked unconscious by the warrior's might, and lie upon the floor as quickly as she had fought.
"One more left?" Kevin called over to Eaglet Girl. "Seems like it..." Eaglet Girl replied, as they geared up to fight the remaining enemy. But as they turned their heads, they viewed Shockwave, with hands stretched above and a large electric sphere over her head which contained Plasma Wisp as its prisoner. "Don't worry, everything's under control here," she reported.
With that said, Eaglet Girl tapped into her com-link and instructed Goldman to send them all back.
Meanwhile, back at the ship, the Physics Five were all detained in separate temporary safe houses.
Back in the cafeteria, where Kevin had come to drink a soda, a voice spoke from beyond the shadows. "Well, how'd you like it?" It spoke. Archer turned around in surprise, but knew immediately who the voice behind the voice was. "Well, it's a little flat..." he jokingly answered.
"You know what I mean..." The Panther crept out of the shadows and into the stretching lights of the cafeteria. "Oh the mission?" Kevin asked. "Well...it was okay...I guess," he replied.
The Panther smirked and folded his arms. "So you think you'll be sticking around for a while?" Kevin took a sip of his grape soda and looked around the large room filled with heroes of all shapes and sizes eating lunch. "Meh...I guess I could get used to the whole teamwork thing... You know, an oddball like me could fit in with a bunch of oddballs like you all," he explained.
"Well then, welcome to the team, Archer, welcome to the team," Panther congratulated, patting Kevin on the back. After the brief initiation, Kevin peered around and spotted a beautiful young woman, with light-brownish blond hair in the distance. "Besides, I might get used to liking it around here..."
The Panther searched for what had Kevin all wrapped up in, and soon he spotted the woman as well. "Hmm, that's Hummingbird, also known as Sarah Crossbow. Considering you're Archer, you two might make a good match. But be careful, don't tick her off. She can shoot sonic waves out of her arms by vibrating them at supersonic speeds," He warned. They watched as she went to the trash to empty her once food-filled tray. "And the scary thing is...the vibrations in her arms are so fast...they're invisible to the eye." Kevin's masked eyes widened in surprise. "Really?" He wondered. "Hey, I'm the Blue Panther, I've done my research. Someone's gotta keep tabs on the Union around here... Anyway, good luck with her..." He smirked, patted him on the back once more, and disappeared into the shadows.
"Alright, Panther, thanks..." He then rushed to talk to the young woman he had just seen, seemingly to begin a beautiful friendship. |
