Final Battle...Magic Returns!!! chapter 5
The weary Warriors returned to Albrook, after their search for Shadow had proved quite fruitless. The Warriors boarded the now fully reconstructed and restocked Falcon and were off to Vector, not knowing how dangerous the mission to stop Reeken was going to be.
"So, how do we get the magic out of this thinga-ma-bobber?" Locke asked, frustrated.
"Its called a hilt, Locke," Setzer told him.
They were on board the Falcon, trying to figure out how to access the magic inside the jeweled hilt. So far they've tried wearing it (like they did with the Magicites), saying every magic word they could think of, punching it, kicking it, throwing it against the wall, and even dumping into the toilet. They had tried everything.
"I don't care what its called! THIS THING IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!" Locke snapped back at him.
"Hey, I never noticed this before, but all of the gems and jewels on the hilt are the same size," Celes told to the gathered group, "But it looks like this one here is smaller than the rest," She pointed to a tiny ruby in the exact center of the hilt.
"Looks like a button to me," Sabin commented.
"So, who's going to press it?" Mog asked.
"I guess I will," Edgar offered, already moving to press the tiny ruby. He tapped the ruby lightly, the small gem sinking into the hilt. The hilt began humming, emitting a blue aura. Terra was glowing as well. Lightning arced between her and the hilt. A flash of light, a blast of cold air, and then the light faded.
Terra was standing there, in her morphed state, glowing bright blue. She was holding the jeweled hilt, which had rusted and was now turning into a pile of dust.
"Whoa, what happened to the hilt?" Mog asked, looking at the pile of dust at Terra's feet.
Terra explained, "The magic within the hilt was what created it. Without that magic, the hilt couldn't stay together and thus, disintegrated when I drained it of its magic. The magic is in me now,"
"How would you know all that?" Setzer asked suspiciously.
"I-I don't know. The hilt told me, I guess,"
"Hey, if the hilt was destroyed after Terra drained it, wouldn't the other pieces be destroyed if they were drained as well?" Locke said more than asked.
"Hey! Where almost to Vector!" Setzer exclaimed, looking out the window.
They didn't bother with sneak attacks or stealth. They did that when they first came here years ago. Now they had Magic on their side. Terra led the way, unleashing a barrage of Fire spells and Bolt spells. Vector was once again engulfed with flames.
Terra seemed to have an almost infinite source of magical energy; she never stopped her spellcasting for even a minute.
"There! I can sense the power of......TWO CHOAS PIECES!?!?" Terra exclaimed, feeling out the magic.
"Two? Dammit, he's found the moonstone pommel," Celes swore.
"Its coming from the main Citidel!" Terra explained.
"Let's just hope that damn Guardian machine isn't there," Mog mumbled.
"URRRRRAAAAARRRROOO!!!" Umaro agreed.
They ran up the long flight of stairs, not slowing down. Whenever they encountered a group of soldiers, Terra simply lashed out with a Blot spell or a Ice spell.
As soon as the Warriors made it to the top of the stairs, they stopped dead in their tracks. The two mechanical arms that attacked them the first time they came to Vector were looming before them, this time, with guns attached. The twin mechanical arms unleashed a heavy barrage of lead at the Warriors, Terra barely erecting a Shell and Safe spell combination. The lead bullets stopped as they struck the barrier. Locke threw a dagger at the generator which was sitting next to the left mechanical arm. The dagger bit into the generator, causing a short-circuit in the twin arms. The two arms, their generator damaged, automatically powered down, becoming nothing more than two useless mounds of scrap metal.
Umaro had no trouble bashing the main doors in, being a Sasquatch and all. The two guards posted at the door were nothing but street pizza after Umaro smashed the door in, their bodies being squashed by the heavy door.
The Warriors went through the door, following Terra, who seemed to know where the Chaos pieces were.
"So, they're here," Reeken said to himself, looking into the monitor in front of him. He saw the Warriors rushing through the many rooms and corridors of his Citidel, blasting any enemies they encountered. He still hadn't figured out how to activate the magic within the crystal blade or the moonstone pommel.
The pommel. Some bounty hunter he had hired found it and gave it to him that very morning, not knowing how valuable the thing really was.
"It seems that my enemies have found out how to activate the jeweled hilt,"
"The pieces are behind this door," Terra said, eyes closed, feeling out the magic with her mind. They were now in front of the door to the Throne Room. The last place they had to look in. "Umaro, open the door," Terra asked the furry humanoid.
Umaro, with a roar, punched the door, its ultra-thick steel hinges snapping off as he hit. The blow sent the door flying into the Throne Room, almost hitting the throne itself.
"A simple knock would have sufficed," Reeken said, stepping from behind the throne and into the open.
He was holding the pommel in one hand and the blade in the other.
"Where'd you get that pommel?" Celes demanded.
"A bounty hunter gave it to me. He didn't know anything about its magical properties."
"Terra, better start draining those pieces," Sabin whispered into her ear.
"I can't," she whispered back, "I need someone to press the activation buttons, and we don't know where they are on the pommel or blade,"
"Stop your whispering!" Reeken shouted, "Tell me how to activate the magic!"
"You're joking, right?" Mog said, "You think we'll give you the instructions to access the magic?"
"Go to Hell," Gogo snapped at Reeken.
"I see. So you won't give me the instructions," Reeken was deep in thought as he talked, "I will kill your ninja friend unless I get the instructions," Reeken snapped his fingers, and a mechanical arm came from a hole in the ceiling. The arm had Shadow, battered and beaten in its grasp.
"SHADOW!" the others exclaimed, seeing how badly injured their friend was.
"Now, give me the instructions," Reeken said, deadly fires in his eyes.
Terra, a plan in mind, said, "Alright, I'll tell you. But you have to give me the pieces." The others, realizing her intent, stayed back, remembering the lightning show that they saw earlier.
Reeken, having no other choice, threw the piecies to her, thinking he had won.
He was dead wrong.
Terra found the activation buttons on the blade and the pommel, pressed them, and absorbed their magic, making herself even stronger than before. Reeken could feel the energy emanating off of her and finally knew real fear.
The energy radiating from Terra was strong enough to shatter the mechanical arm holding Shadow, and the ninja then fell to the ground. The walls began caving in, the energy being so great that it made metal break apart.
Terra, the magic within her being so great, felt as if she would explode. She need to expend the magic of the Chaos Sword, need to release the energy. She focused her energies on Reeken, aimed all of that magic at him....then released it.
Reeken screamed in denial as the magical energy ripped into his body, killing him from the inside. Locke grabbed Shadow and began running out the door, screaming, "GET OUT NOW!!!!"
Everyone, except Terra, made it out of Vector and back into the Falcon. Terra, still in the Throne Room, finally released the pent up magic, sending it out of her, turning Vector into a pile of rubble. Terra, with the last bit of magic, forced herself to fly into the air, trying to catch up with the high-flying Falcon. Gogo was able to pick her up before she used up all the magic, and pulled her on board.
"Hey, you alright?" Edgar asked Terra the next day. Shadow and Terra were in the infirmary, each of them healing their wounds. The others got out with only minor cuts; Terra was devestated from using so much magic, and Shadow was heavily wounded from the tortures he had endured at the hands of Reeken.
Once again, Magic returns and is banished, used then abused. Terra keenly felt the loss of magic, as she was a half-Esper. It seemed as if a part of her had died, but she would recover....... She felt a tiny bit of magic in the back of her mind, the magic needed to let her Morph. She smiled, taking comfort in the magic left in her.
